Obama first to brew beer in White House

During this year's Super Bowl, President Obama created a stir by offering guests at the White House beer that he'd brewed himself. And now the president reportedly plans to have another batch of his homebrew on hand March 17 — that's right, for St. Patrick's Day.

According to the Irish Central website, when Obama announced that this March is Irish American Heritage Month, he also pledged to serve his own White House Honey Ale — made with honey from the White House garden beehive — to help celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

( sorry, didn't see if this was posted anywhere else )

Cheers, Pres!

I've never liked the use of nicknames to demonstrate someone's distaste for someone else, I find it silly.

But big thumbs up for Saint Patrick's Day, my very favorite day of the year!

Even when I throw them at people I don't like, I always saw it as more of an honorific - it means you see them as an individual person, which indicates an acceptance of their humanity.

That said, Obama never struck me as the kinda guy who might homebrew, always seemed a bit too uptight for that sorta thing, yanno ?

I bet he'd be a fun interview after about 3-4 of em though, frankly he could USE a couple, as stiff as he usually comes off.

Barry is his name. No nick about it.

No...sigh..."Barry" is what his friends call him. His name is Barak, his official name is President Obama, and it's quite obvious you mean it as a snark. Just like I called Bush "Dumbya", after his middle initial "W"; precisely the same, but I see you're not willing to own that. Nothing new here.

Just occurred to me; I'd love to see you snark at someone calling Bush "Georgie". Same thing.

I have no problem with nicknames if the person either likes it or doesn't care one way or the other, but to call someone a nickname, like Niki calls Dubya for instance, I see as rude. If someone does it its their right, but I think its rude unless the person likes or doesn't mind the nickname.

Good lord, folks, get over yourselves and have a beer or something.

I credit PRESIDENT OBAMA with being the 1st in the White House to brew his own beer.

Regardless of his politics, I find that's pretty damn cool. I applaud it, no matter what his motivation. A hell of a lot better than 'Billy' Beer.

And 'Barry' was how he referred to himself, as I understand it, for quite some time. It's no where near as demeaning or derogatory as 'dumbya' or some such 'nick' name.

Have a pint and a smile.

Do you think he brought some of his home-brew to the golf course last weekend?

Oops! Didn't mean to get you guys going. Just joking. Yes he played golf. I believe he shouldn't care about Japan. We have enough problems here. We have all our best scholarship atheletes playing this week, Wisconsin public workers bugged out, and Nancy Polosi having lunch with Ron Paul. Japan what? Not our thing.

I don't like to be disrespectful, but PN's comment about Obama fiddling while Japan burns struck a chord with me, it might be mean but I'm just being honest here, I feel like I can do that here.

Free booze ? What courses have you been playing on ? I'll bet you don't even tip the beer cart girl.

You're right - I don't tip the beer cart girl, but that's only because I don't golf.

Well, it's debatable if my game can be called 'golf' either, but that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.
