So, I supported outsourcing as a world economic stabilizer, but I think there's a fatal flaw: The customer service from outsource center sucks, and the reason seems pretty simple, it just took me a while to logic this far.

Hello, thank you for choosing Loser America, this is some guy in India, how can I help you?

Customer: Well, I have a problem

Service: Oh, sorry, I just checked my updated company handbook and it say the customer is always an asshole.

Customer: Don't you guys have Dale Carnegie over there?

Service: Yes, we are having all of your great business philosophers here, but this problem of yours is not our problem, so you lose.

Customer: But, if this is your policy then you will lose customers, and you will be out of a job.

Service: No. Loser America will lose customers, and I will lose this job. But this will be good for Loser of India, and they will hire me at a better wage rate and with more benefits, so I don't care what happens to Loser America. It's not my problem. Is there anything else I can help you with today?

I actually don't think it's a character or training or economic issue, it's process. It's really not in their best interests that you stay the customer of that company. As an outsourcing firm, they probably contract with a lot of firms, and when those companies lose business, they don't care.

I supported outsourcing initially because I thought it was good for the third world, and good for America, and I think it is, but it was bad for business.

Now I'm not so sure.

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

So, you're saying we're now exporting corrupt business ethics? Awesome!

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

The only thing I wondered is why you ever thought it was a good idea in the first place. When service provider and customer are separated by thousands of miles, quality goes to hell in a handbasket.

Anyway, I know someone who used to work for AT&T tech support right here in the good old USA. They clock you on how many "tickets" you "close" in an hour. And they provide absolutely no technical training, beyond a script to read. Their first line is "On the lower left-hand side of the screen you will see a button called "START", and any reply to the contrary either elicits complete blank silence, or increasingly frantic repetitions of that first line. "Anyone" can get a job in tech support, and usually does. It's kind of hilarious, in a sad way.

The whole "world economic stabilizer" thing was the clue for me. You don't want a global economy, not really.

You want a strong local economy with self-sufficiency to the point where you reduce or eliminate the poverty and hunger. Everyone needs food, and maybe some land, production is what's important. You want it as individualized as possible, so people can make all or most of what they need, with maybe some trading going on however that's going to work. That's what stabilizes everything, not the fake number money we pay people in India.

The economic systems don't even have to be consistent between each other at ALL so long as each economic system is itself stable and works.

I've never known anyone who is pro outsourcing. I'm quite anti outsourcing basically because I believe that by doing so we're shooting ourselves in the foot, shafting our own workers and becoming dependent on someone else to make our stuff/do our jobs. Not to mention its really frustrating to talk to someone over the phone when something is malfunctioning and not being able to understand what they're telling me to do.

I love those commercials where the guy picks up the phone and is like "My name is Peggi, how may I help you." and the person on the other end gets frustrated with Peggi and then Peggi hangs up, those make me laugh but I see the point they're making.
