I was just thinkin about it, and it makes little to no sense if you actually think it through.

The FBI, who is notorious for domestic spying, stealing peoples information, even going as far as planting trojans (magic lantern) or email dragnets (carnivore/omnivore), and most CERTAINLY hacking peoples phones, a trick they've recently begun to share with state police...
http://the-classic-liberal.com/michigan-state-police-hack-private-cell
-phone
/
And let's not even talk about shit like Cointelpro and Mockingbird!

Is investigating Rupert Murdoch for hacking cellphones, email and stealing information.

DOES THIS MAKE ANY SENSE TO YOU ?

I mean, the only way I can even see it halfway making sense is his usurpation of what they feel to be their perogative causing them to be pissed over an etheral "turf violation", cause it's not like they got ANY moral high ground what-so-ever to stand on, and if Ruperts lawyer is any kind of smart, he'll bring all that up and thrash them soundly in court, unless of course the FBI leans on the Judge and Jury with the usual threats.

Honestly this prosecution should have come via US Dept of Justice, which not only has some high ground (provided no one mentions the pinkertons, or unions..) but also the international jurisdiction and connections to secure and process evidence collected elsewhere that is relevant to the case.

Besides which the FBI's a bunch of incompetent bunglers I wouldn't trust to operate a coffee machine, and it shows.

I definitely get you on the stepping-on-their-toes thing, but there's also this to think about: Even though the FBI and other alphabet goons do it, does that make it okay for others to do it as well?

I mean, a bunch of blue-suited members of the donut Mafia beat the hell out of Rodney King and got away with it, but that sure as hell doesn't make it an okay thing to beat down any random black man.

I'd like to see them hang Rupert high on the basis of the evidence, and then have the Justice Department use the same rationale to go after the FBI for the same crimes. Of course, that will never happen, but in a perfect world...

Well, nobody's ever going to go after the Fibbies, but I have no complaint whatsoever if they go after Murdoch. One is the way it's always been and it'll never change, so why bother going after them? The other is indoctrinating people in a way that is damaging our country, England and Australia. Fibbies don't do that...it's another department ...

I don't think they give a damn about their toes being stepped on, does them no harm; may have more to do with it COMING OUT in the open, which the government keeps from happening about their departments. Aside from which, name a country that ever existed which doesn't do exactly the same things in one form or another. It's the way of the world.

Murdoch, TO ME, is new and sets a dangerous precedent.

Is that an actually existing nickname? Fibbies? I've never heard it before.

If you just made it up, I kinda of like that. Kudos.

It's a real nickname, Byte. And it's eerily appropriate, given their history of lying, making shit up, and "testilying"...

ETA: Niki, saying "that's the way it's always been" doesn't really hold much water, though. I understand what you're saying, but I'd rather see the FBI and others go after Murdoch, and then set someone on THEM using the same methods and tactics, because how things are and how things have been isn't working, and everybody seems to know it, and saying it's how things have always been means that nothing ever changes.

More like "see-WHY-eh" - As in, CYA, as in Cover-Your-Ass.

But "See-yahs" works, too, given the way they have of making people disappear...

Oh, I agree, Mike, 100%; I just feel like it's more realistic to recognize that, with the power they've been given, they're not about to change and I see no way of changing them. So I pay more attention to things I believe CAN be changed, if you know what I mean.

I'm surprised you never heard "Fibbies" before; it's been around forever. I guess I hear it more on TV and in movies than in common conversation, so maybe that's why I'm so familiar with it. Kind of like "chips" for CHP.

Nick,

Unclear on the concept much?

Frem,

Yes, they goons who do it around the clock are the ones with the guns.

Fact is, we have to come to terms with the information age, and press the return fire under the second amendment.

Good point. The right to keep and bear arms doesn't ONLY mean firearms! Cameras and computers are powerful weapons in and of themselves!

Valid point. They SHOULD be held to the same standard, if not a higher one, but what are the odds of that happening?

You also have the fact that law enforcement can legally tap phones under certain circumstances. The media can never do it legally under and circumstances. So it is easier for people to justify and accept law enforcement do taps illegally then a media outlet.

Thing is, though, that BECAUSE law enforcement can legally do such things, they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law when they DON'T do it legally. I don't cut cops any slack for breaking the law, because as they so often say, "Ignorance of the law is no excuse."

I see what you mean Quicko, since they are allowed to do it legally they have no excuse for being lazy and doing it illegally and we need to hold them accountable.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

The government makes a good stab at recording every single communication made by anyone anywhere. Supposedly, we trust them to only decode and listen to or read the important stuff that they have a right to know.

The saving grace is that there is so much material out there that they have no idea how to manage it all.

I think if we ever get a Skynet type AI, it will be built by the NSA, and it will be designed to analyze all this information that is currently recorded faster than it can be managed or processed.

Anthony, my dad always told me that, that the government can hear everything I say on the phone and see whatever I type on the computer online if they want, usually it just sifts through unless certain buzz words or combinations thereof are detected, then its sent to the people who check such things and they decide whether what I'm saying is a threat or not. I think though that there's so much information going on at any time though that they don't look at it all the time or anything. I don't know how true this theory is but that's what I was always told.
