Quote:Originally posted by dreamtrove: I'm fairly suspicious of Anonymous, which I think has a lot of markings of being an arm of TPTB, their media attention, target selection, etc. though like "Al Qaeda" it's a vaguely enough defined group that anyone can claim to be it, and the media can attribute anything to it. Anyway, I was wondering if this http://news.cnet.com/8301-17852_3-20129248-71/is-facebook-really-going-down-on-saturday/ was some sort of trick to get us to defend Facebook, the best friend of TPTB. Thoughts? That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

They're attacking themselves using popular sentiments in order to get us to accept the new big thing in social programming. Which is apparently some sort of free and open source technology they've developed and are planning to distribute.

Quote:'Hackers' threaten Mexican drug cartel, An internet video - which claims to be linked to the Anonymous hacking movement - has threatened to expose details about a Mexican drugs cartel. The YouTube message said it was "tired of the criminal group the Zetas, which is dedicated to kidnapping, stealing and extortion". It said the cartel "made a great mistake" carrying out an abduction of one of their members in Veracruz. Local law authorities said they cannot authenticate the video. The message shows a person dressed in a Guy Fawkes mask associated with Anonymous and other activist groups. The voiceover, which is in Spanish, claims to know about police officers, journalists, taxi drivers and others who aid the cartel. It said it will publish photographs and other details unless the kidnapped member of its group - who has not been identified - is released. "We cannot defend ourselves with weapons, but we can with their cars, houses and bars," the message added.

Quote:Originally posted by BYTEMITE: Well, it's fairly well known that Facebook activity is monitored, I think even you might agree with that. But as people start to realize that, and also simply as the site ages as a social hang-out, it loses users, who migrate somewhere else. Something similar you might recall happened to MySpace. But to properly monitor the citizenry, some jump needs to be made to the new scene - which right now is probably twitter, but from here it sounds like there's some plans to release some actual software to accomplish some of the same goals. Making it open source and free makes it more appealing to their target demographic (everyone).

Quote: The collective published the list of potential targets alongside a statement: “The goal is to make sure the whole world, or at least the people going to these events, know that there have been threats and that there is possibility of an attack to happen. Another goal is to make sure Daesh knows that the world knows and cancels the attacks, which will disorientate them for a while.”

We keep the ID of minors out of the press, in all manner of stories. This leads me to think he's not a kid. Also, I heard he's made references to his youth, in the 90's... ( fake news ? ) IDK. I just think that CNN went too far. I hope that point has been made clear to them, and for THEM to never do it again.
