Keep the Shiny side up

Looks like Russia's martial arts tough guy can't take what Hillary can dish out.

Putin slams Clinton for encouraging protesters

MOSCOW (AP) - Prime Minister Vladimir Putin strongly criticized U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Thursday, accusing her of encouraging and funding Russians protesting election fraud, and warned of a wider Russian crackdown on dissent.

By describing Russia's parliamentary election as rigged, Putin said Clinton "gave a signal" to his opponents.

"They heard this signal and with the support of the U.S. State Department began their active work," Putin said in televised remarks. He said the United States is spending "hundreds of millions" of dollars to influence Russian politics with the aim of weakening a rival nuclear power.

And at least we now know the cause of the deficit. It's the "hundreds of millions" we're spending to influence the Russian elections.

Hello,

If we were doing so, it would be standard operating procedure. We have a long history of influencing foreign elections and inciting revolution.

Is it unusual for guys to get beat up by girls?

Anyway, I'm not sure why Russia is making such a big deal. Cracking down on political dissenters is clearly the best way ever to ensure a fair election's desired outcome, and they're still getting their usual U.S. bribes. What, do they want more money?

"Is it unusual for guys to get beat up by girls?"

Hello,

Women have a versatile kit, and violence is seldom the first or best tool out of the box.

Hello,

I do not mean to suggest cowardice when I say that thoughtless brutishness is not often the best tool in the toolbox.

Must one charge nakedly into the horde to be brave?

I always considered that to be more of an IQ test... And not one with high-scores.

Well, it's certainly better than being thought of as a shrinking violet who can't do anything unless she bats her eyes to get a fella to do it for her.

Oh, unless, thoughtless brutish violence is ONLY the man's domain?

Or perhaps you misunderstand me. Thoughtless violence has nothing to do with it, even fighting skyclad had it's own reasons - one of which being that the enemy soldiers were often MALE and distractable.

In any case, perhaps I take PRIDE in fighting my own battles. Whether it's the battle to be taken seriously in science, or against old-fashioned chivalry, or when a bully threatens the life of one of my friends.

Girls DO beat up guys, and sometimes that's MUCH better than feminine wiles.

Hello,

This 'shrinking violet' exists in an argument I never made. Perhaps you are arguing with some other people who live in your memory?

I concede women may be foolishly, savagely, violent.

And if my suggestion that women have better tactics at their disposal is offensive, then I apologize.

Get naked and rage freely, lass. I'll take the 'cowards' portion for myself.

Hello,

It might make a good fiction, but it is a grim reality. A thousand wild things bearing down on you with cruel implements of war, to hack away at bits and pieces while hooking your guts and dragging your entrails out of gaping belly wounds. This to be your last sight as blood bubbles upon your parted lips and you struggle to take in a final breath or utter a final word of lament.

But there's drawings!

Anyway, to clarify, I'm not saying that abuse is all right, whether it's female on male or male on female. But I do think sometimes that a person has to fight, like to defend themselves.

When I posted what I did to this thread, it was because I was taking issue with the implication "being beat up by a girl" makes someone weak, whether physically or in this case mentally/verbally. There's an implication there that women are both mentally and physically weak, enough so that when a guy gets his ego bruised by a girl it's because he's even weaker than girls are. That's not fair to either the guy OR to girls in general.

Anthony, you neglect to consider that I'm more than somewhat insane. The scenario you just proposed would be my PREFERRED way to go - to the point that I'm rather disappointed I've lived past the age of 18.

Sometimes I do feel like a coward because I haven't gotten myself killed or mutilated before now.

But that doesn't really detract from the main point I'm trying to make, in which "beat up by a girl" has some bothersome connotations for me.

Hello Byte,

I hold no high esteem for the thread title, which does indeed imply what you suggest.

My response was to your question, (I paraphrase now from memory) "Is it unusual to be beaten up by a girl?"

I have never been beaten up by a girl. So it is indeed unusual for me. I have been in many 'fights' in my life, but I endured violence at the hands of men, not women.

However, I have often been defeated by females outside the arena of combat. I have always found them able to dip into a wide reservoir of skills and techniques when engaged in a contest, such that physical violence has been unnecessary and not even desirable as a means to victory.

Violence is a tool used when all the good ideas are gone. In my experience, men grasp that tool more readily than women. This is evidence of impulsiveness, laziness, or a shortage of alternative skills to draw upon. I mean no offense to the barbarian hordes of naked women (or other females) who may prefer to be recognized for their prowess at violence.

Mostly I wrote that because it's not unusual for me, and I was trying to point that out.

Hello,

I am sorry that you have found occasion to resort to violence in confrontations with men. But I am glad you were able to come out on top in such scenarios.

Byte's a real good fighter, I want her on my side when the excrement hits the spinning device. :) Its also kind of a cultural thing I think.

But I know that what you meant Anthony is that sometimes women think of other ways to fight that can be just as affective. Look at junior high girls for instance, not a fist lifted and yet the other girls who aren't in the circle cower in the corner. Or the boys they've spurned.

Interestingly, mean clique girls are really the only type of girl I'd beat up back in the day.

I bit one on the arm for calling me a heathen, she told me the next day she'd gotten a rabies vaccination because she was a total snot. Good times.

Mind you, this event was the beginning of the end for the Cold War - much to the often outspoken ire of those profiting from it.
I *still* harbor lingering suspicions in regards to her eventual fate.

In December 1983, continuing in her role as "America's Youngest Ambassador", she was invited to Japan,[18] where she met with the Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone and attended the Children's International Symposium in Kobe. In her speech at the symposium, she suggested that Soviet and American leaders exchange granddaughters for two weeks every year, arguing that a president "wouldn't want to send a bomb to a country his granddaughter would be visiting".

Hello,

She may not have known it, but such a practice was often effective in cementing tolerable relations with tense neighbors throughout history. Smart girl.
