Remembering that CTS had posted a story about a family farm and their experience about living next to a wifi tower, I saw this story.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

If you carry large, high-voltage alternating current on a power line it will act as a radiating antenna and couple to the ground. Power losses through this kind of coupling are measurable. Just to be clear, though, this kind of coupling does not apply to low-voltage signals like cell phones. Whatever happens as a result of radio, cell phone and other signals happens by a different mechanism.

I saw a great demonstration of EMF coupling during an earthquake, when high-tension lines about 1/8 mile away began swinging. Unfortunately, rather than swinging in tandem they swung towards each other. Even though the lines never touched, there was a huge buzzing and bright flashes every time the lines approached each other.

I think there is something to the idea of not living near towers. My friend next door is overly neurotic about wifi though and its a problem because her daughter is prone to ... tendencies of mental health differences (which I think she's outgrowing she's 10 now, almost 11, so I'm hoping she'll outgrow it with puberty, some kids do). But her mom acting freaky about her use of wifi is not going to help the situation with her.

Right. I've just found it interesting that the high voltage fields or intense electromagnetic fields can cause health problems like this.

Yeah, the ambient waves probably aren't going to do much to you, though I also wouldn't exactly spend every moment with a cell phone at your ear either. Technically any high frequency (blue, ultraviolet, or higher) can dislodge electrons and therefore mess with your DNA. There is the question of how well the frequency can penetrate, which is where higher frequencies or intense fields become a concern.

I'd say one of the bigger problems with small wifi electronics is more that they can screw up your sleep patterns. But these big fields around the towers, those are something else again.

AC was Tesla's invention to transmit energy wirelessly. Not that it's being used that way, but... yeah, coupling does occur, as the fluorescent lights demonstrate. As an aside, during intense lightning storms our fluorescent lights would literally be turned on by electromagnetic waves from the lightning, sometimes from as much as a 1/4 mile away.

:o

The implications are a little scary, but the phenomena is kinda cool.

I had a girlfriend who, when she slept over, would mess with the CFL bulbs in the wall sconces above my bed. WEIRDEST thing I've ever seen. The light in the wall sconce she was sleeping under would half light and flicker. Both wall sconces were plugged into an outlet controlled by a wall switch. But the other sconce would not behave any differently than it was supposed to. It would stop if I opened the switch in the power cable attached to the wall sconce.

People also throw an electromagnetic field. Some of them are stronger than others and can interact with their environment too.

Interesting CaveTroll, I think you're right that our bodies have a voltage field of their own, some stronger than others, maybe having a weaker one or a stronger one indicates something about the person's body, like if you have too low of one you're suceptable to certain ailments etc.
