So you're saying gas prices are down from the $5+ per gallon they hit under Dubya?

That never happened, other than in your mind.

Go and dig up some rare, isolated incidents where gas spiked, in very local areas, but by in large, gas prices under Bush, nation wide, never came near 5$ a gallon.

Yes that's what I'm saying, and childeren are eatting less garbage. In Bush's America gas didn't stay at $5 a gallion, but it might in Barrys. I hope you like the high prices on;

Gas

Heat & A/C

Food

Cable

Milk

Anything with corn in it

Things as they will remain as long as your Lord and Savor Barry is Prez.

Pray with me Kwicko, let's pray to your God Barry.

Thank you Barry for my job, food, heat and the gas in my car. Thank you for making sure that school childeren are eatting what Mobama is eatting (even tho you eat cheeseburgers when you're away from the White House which may be why you have a skinney ass while Mobama's ass is FAT) because they like having their lunch boxes searched thru like a TSA Agent. Thank you Barry and thank you for the air. Amen.

According to your own chart, it's never hit $4 a gallon while Obama's been president, either. In fact, it's never been as high as it got under Dubya. Neither has the price of oil.

We had $5 a gallon gas here in Austin for a while after Katrina, as did many other places. I've not seen $4 gas in the last few years, though.

Amazin, the ability to deny reality.
Hell, we had it up to $5.11 HERE, under Dumbya...

And it looks like they're starting the inevitable spring petroleum "incidents" (always a handy excuse to drive the price up) a little early this year, cause I've heard tell of a recent barge collision.

Mind you, I been watching THAT pattern of events for five and more years now, and so has Byte, I think, ergo we can safely discard coincidence by now.

And point of fact, Gas prices on the day Obama was emaculated vs what they are today( approx $ 1.90 vs $ 3.50 ) . And check back in a few months, see where gas prices are then.

Sure would be nice to have some domestic oil drilled , say like in Alaska, right now. Or how about a nice pipeline from Canada ?

Naw.. .no need for any of that stuff, huh?

Pizmo! Responding to The Zit's silly thread is a waste he's just ridiculous. Just sayin'.

Heaven knows where we'd be, Magons, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it being better.

Anyway, this thread...just anything, to argue infinitum on individual points. So stupid, so useless. We had $5-a-gallon gas around here too for a short time under Dumbya; that's three separate places hundreds (if not thousands) of miles apart, so that's that. Why argue it with him, tho'? It just goes on and on

...and on and on...

By now EVERYONE knows what happened to the country under Bush...hell, even the Republicans admit it and are running on "we know we fucked up; we can do better". So Alt.Univ. is just an anomaly himself, who would rather die than ever admit ANYTHING in the last three years has been good. He's a relic in that way, and there are better things to discuss.

Since I've only seen you tag me w/ that moniker, I'll assume that comment was directed towards me.

I have, in fact, offered credit where credit is due per Obama. Yet some are so blind and such bitter clingers to their world view, they can't acknowledge facts which go counter to what they WISH were true.

I may be an anomaly to you, Niki, and your extreme, far Left wing commie/ hippie lovin' gang, but the fact of the matter is, more folks see the world my way than not, on a great many things.

And a few months before that "emaculation" (whatever that word-salad is supposed to mean), gas was at over $4.12 nationally. Check back, indeed, because one day it will be higher than another, and another day it will be lower.

Why WOULD you need any of that stuff now? Demand is at lows not seen in more than 15 years, supply is high, and oil and gas are our number one export product already. How does a pipeline from Canada to Texas lower our gas prices if the oil and gas are sold to overseas customers?

And when all the gas and oil companies are multinational conglomerates, there is no such thing as "domestic" oil and "foreign" oil; there's just oil, and dollars. And right now, there are lots and lots of speculators' dollars driving up the price of gas. It has nothing to do with real-world supply and demand; like real estate 5 years ago, it's a bubble, except this one's a gas fart.

Gee, I don't know. Might want to ask the folks who want to build the line, who want to offer jobs and increase options for when demand IS high, and / or when supplies are threatened.

And Obama even thinks there's a difference between domestic and foreign oil. Are you now calling HIM a liar ?

It is what it is. "Right" or "Left" our kids will still be eating garbage 100 years from now unless there is a major change, NOW!!!!

I can't make that change happen.

You can't make that change happen.

Who gives a crap who is voted in? NOTHING will change. You need to just concern yourself with you and yours. When things get bad enough, we'll all be acting like Mel Gibson in the Patriot, but until then expect things to go on a downward slope.

My solution, in the interim......?????

Don't have kids.

D.A.R.E. might have not worked on me, but that video of the 17 year old working an ice cream shop for life to support his new family while his dick boss belittled him for the rest of his life sure did.

I'm not opposed to raising kids, but they will be from some grateful good-looking woman who already had one or two of them that will appreciate what she gets. The bonus for me is that I can die happy knowing that I kept one or two more kids from being meth addicts or spending their life in and out of jail as a side effect.

There are too many "bastards" out there. Why make your own kids when there are 27 year old strippers out there (maybe your next door neighbor) that would throw themselves at you if you could be the "Dad"?

The trick is, to find the "good" strippers.

We all watched Disney movies as kids. Not all strippers are Ursula in disguise. The "Hooker with a Heart of Gold" isn't a myth, especially with kids of her own involved.

I look at this situation for any man, particulary in this economic climate, as a win-win-win.

1st, I get to sleep with a stripper, because I can.

2nd, I don't have the cross to bear that I brought any of my own children into this "Brave New World."

3rd, Any accolades they hopefully obtain in life, I get to take partial credit for. If they fail, it's because they had a stripper mom and a deadbeat dad that disappeared.

Not my bad....

So says I, and so would say Gregory House....

EDITED TO ADD: and where do you get your "9% unemployment, rather than the 8% unemployment" figure? If you waited until June and somehow we were actually told the real amount of people not claiming any W2s or 1099s that had run out of unemployment benefits any time during 2011, you'd be more likely to see that the ACTUAL unemployment rate is more like double, or 16-19%.

They don't count those who have stopped trying. They only count those who are weekly filing unemployment claims. The government would be happy to keep those who no longer qualify for unemployment benefits in the statistics...... but seriously........

How many people do you know would spend 45 seconds a week filling out unemployment claims once they know they won't be getting a check in the mail?

I can proudly say that I made a "W-2" tax contribution today, my first since late 2009.

My unemployment ran out in August of 2011. Don't think for a second that I was still calculated in the "unemployed" number for the last six months.

It's even more scary when the Present is written by the Winning.

Kwickie - Completely different situations. Both you and Story made the same mistakes, of quoting 1 person ( Me ) but referencing someone else. Someone not specific to the quoted reply.

You even acknowledge that 'maybe I missed' Whozit's comment, or maybe I didn't even consider it, during the exchange between you and I, so either way, there's no comparison of 'reading comprehension' issues here, what so ever.

Your claims of $5 gas was countered by the link I provided. Sure, rare, isolated spots may have cropped up, but how many of those areas were due to illegal price gouging? There were some cases brought up here in GA where some stations artificially inflated their prices, well above the
high prices due to Katrina. Likely there were other places where this occurred too.

Here's the thing, Rappy - YOU made the claim that $4 a gallon gas was NEVER brought up, not me. You left it pretty open-ended, too; you didn't say "*I* never brought it up..." - you said it was never brought up at all. So I showed you very easily and very quickly where it WAS brought up, in the original post that started this thread. If I was, as you say, quoting you but referencing someone else, it was to show that what YOU were claiming was patently false.

So when you claimed that it was NEVER brought up - not by you, but by anyone in this thread - were you lying? Or were you just wrong?

If you were wrong, then apology accepted.

And the point still stands: Gas prices were higher under Bush than they have been under Obama. So again, I accept your apology for being so wrong so often in this thread.

Hi Six,
Do you think that you'd, at some point, want your stripper girlfriend/wife to consider other career options? Or would you be cool with her continuing to do that, since it brings in heavy amounts of cash. I ask because my cousin's girlfriend has recently taken up stripping and he seems to be okay with that, she wasn't doing it when they met. We're all waiting for the other shoe to drop and for him to get tired of her doing it and either move on or suggest that she try something else. We think the reason he doesn't mind is because it means he doesn't have to work because she brings home lots of money every Sat. night.

WAKE THE UP!!!!!

TWO SIDES OF THE SAME COIN!!!!!

I've lived with prices under Bush Jr. under 2 bucks a gallon. I've lived with prices under Obama between 2.80 and 4.75 a gallon.

I'll even give the guy a huge break on inflation since everything else went way the F up that I enjoy from cigarettes to beer to "cheap" food for sustinance at Aldi in the last 4 years.

Seriously Kwicko....

Read my posts from about 5-6 years ago.

I HATED Bush JR, even though I'm an independent with conservative leanings.

I have many more than one post back then saying he was the worst president we ever had. My MAIN discrepancy was how much over budget the B-YEARS ran.

Shortly after the second term I told everyone I knew, including here, that he was the worst president we'd' ever had (based solely on the money).

I won't ever go back and edit or remove those posts, although this site erroneously allows us all the ability to do this many years after the fact.

I didn't vote last Presidental election. At least in the primary, so I can't even take a side on the first term. There was no way I was voting for McCain (Bush 2.0) as an alternative, so I let the chips fall.....

Obama was a social experiment, and although I admit he has been interesting, he has failed miserably and no theoretical words in the papers are going to say otherwise when so many hard working people are still out of jobs 4 years later can't find meaningful employment because some asian is still doing their "College-Educated-with-160k-of-tuition-plus-interest-job" is being done by somebody across the globe who is happy to make 3k a month and pay $150 USD a month for mortgage and 25 USD cents a pack for cigarettes.

Meanwhile, I have a cousin who owes 70k in college tuition who has to try to pay that off (and interest), as she works folding shirts at Old Navy.

An Indian or a Chinese professional can't physically fold clothes 10 miles from me.

But a desperate college graduate in the US who is smart and owes 100k sure can.

Am I just crazy, or is it just me seeing this?????

Unless you give your kids a free ride to college, or you have enough money to pay for their education, college loans are making equal opportunity "slaves" to the "commonwealth".

How are my friends delivering pizza in thier own car ever going to pay off those debts? They'll probably be 100 years old and still owe.

I'm so glad I'm a "High School with Some College" that is just slightly tilted enough in the IQ department to be able to read the writing on the wall.

In actuality, college is poison for the future life 80% of the participants and their families that don't get a full ride.

If you're going to be a Nuclear Physicist or a Diagnostician or something else that really stands out from the crowd, good for you.

Otherwise, your 70k-4-year-keg-stand-party won't be any more likely to land you a good job than my ability to make anyone like me in an interview.

Here's some Knowledge from 6.....

College, and especially huge loans, is for losers.....

Yes, I said it....

L.0.S.E.R.S.

Aside from the VERY few jobs that higher than HS eduction validates in the world we live in, if you need a degree to make it in this world, you are a LOSER!

Don't hate me.

Hate your guidance councilor who said it was a good idea to go into the "Liberal arts" back when the economy was good.

Good luck teaching English or Photography, because (sight unseen) Earnest Hemingway and Ansel Adams, you are not.

Don't get me wrong. I love art. I've been told I"m quite good at it, but I would never expect any piece I did to be worth any money until after I died, if ever.

I thank my lucky stars that I wasn't suckered into either the Art Institute of Chicago or the Marines.

Money kept me from the first, but the first love of my life shielded me from the other.

I don't need a secondary income, and I don't now your cousin's position, so it's hard for me to say.

I had a very good friend who it was tearing him apart that his wife was making 3 times as much stripping as he made at his office job, but he was too afraid to tell her about the 20k he lost playing no-limit hold-em at the casino.

Seriously....

If you're not a gambler by nature (like me), there is nothing worse than seeing a good friend tell you to "f-off" while they put another 5k on the table that they haven't made yet.

She's still stripping with her kid here (=F-D-up) and he's still gambling (=F-D-up), but at least they're still together. Maybe I can be their "Jimminy Cricket" that makes them realize that the only important factor in their own personal Algebra is the kid.

Having lived through a divorce and two people who used to love each other but have spent over 20 years hating each other, I've come to understand this as the norm...

I don't want to judge at all....

but when I see two parents who are "estranged", betting their and their kid's future on luck, I get a little pissed about it.

My bad, I guess...

Just so you know, Jack - the matter of that kid actually crossed MY desk, some time before you mentioned it here.

You know why ?

Cause despite the problem being common enough to justify it, ain't nobody else I ever heard of who's done any real research, or had any decent success treating what I call Closet-Kid-Syndrome, both the medical and psychological effects from such longterm deprivation - in fact the ONLY thing any kind of unusual about that case is that it made the news, which is helpful since the public attention means she will get the help she needs instead of just being dumped into the Foster Care meatgrinder.

One of the better allies in that particular bit of R&D has been an optometrist, cause longterm light deprivation, especially during crucial developmental periods, does some awful things to the ability to see, and former Closet-Kid Wendy has been very patient and helpful in volunteering to test new lenses/filters.

There's also serious dietary/metabolic problems that come along, and dealing with those is tricky as hell - I sincerely hope they actually READ that info packet we sent them cause adjusting for and mitigating that is also integral to preventing worse long term problems.

It's not just you, Six, but the problem isn't "college education". The problem is that while there is PLENTY of "work to do"... fixing roads, building houses, teaching children, healing the sick... there aren't enough JOBS. And the reason for that is because the JOBS are controlled by the so-called "job creators" (excuse me... I have to go rinse my mouth) whose ACTUAL purpose is to GET RID of jobs. Especially ones that pay halfway decently.

Oonj, they ARE trying to get rid of the higher-end jobs, in my humble opinion, and work it so the population is stuck in the lower class...they can export the higher-end stuff (which they already ARE) and import higher-end workers who will do the work for less (which they already ARE) if they attack education and keep us ignorant...which makes them more and more money if the population is kept at the lower end. For the SHORT TERM, anyway. Eventually...gawd help us.

I love how some people operate.

The right screams that we need more domestic oil production to bring down the price of gas. Under President Obama domestic oil production see its highest levels since 2003, but somehow the President is still to blame of higher oil prices.

You would think that people on the right would understand supply and demand. If the increase in demand outpaces increases in supply you will see an increase in price.

So if we as a country and a world start using less gas the price will come down. So that means if you want lower gas and oil prices you need more alternative energy sources unless you just plan on using less energy overall.

I agree about that 100% Signy.

In Illinois, they raised the highway toll prices 100-175% on Janurary 1st. (The tolls that were originally suggested by our government as a temporary "tax" that would allow the road creation in the first place, and then would be abandoned). With the iPass today (which cuts your toll in half of what cash payers have to pay), I pay $1.50 round trip to see my family. On December 31st 2011, the same trip only cost me 60 cents.

Meanwhile, bridges are falling.....

Is this money going to be used to create new jobs to fix the roads and bridges?

No. It's going to pay interest on un-payable loans that Illinois corrupt government has burdened the people with.

No surprise that after the 2010 US Census Illinois has actually lost a seat in congress. I'm surprised that it wasn't more, actually.

Hey Nikki,

I'm glad you don't agree with everything I said. But the fact that you agree strongly with at least 75% of it proves the point I was trying to make. Thanks for taking the time to point that out.

I'm hoping that we all can wake up soon and realize this point and start being so undivided as a country. Dissent, disagreement and debate is definitely healthy for each of us, but only to a certain degree. I'm tired of living in a once great country that is now so excessively divided by the media that we may as well just toss our gloves in the ring and begin Civil War II.
