Tacocopter Aims To Deliver Tacos Using Unmanned Drone Helicopters

Tacocopter

Look, up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane!

It's an unmanned drone helicopter shooting a taco from space down at you and your colleagues during lunchtime!

The Internet is going wild for Tacocopter, perhaps the next great startup out of Silicon Valley, which boasts a business plan that combines four of the most prominent touchstones of modern America: tacos, helicopters, robots and laziness.

Indeed, the concept behind Tacocopter is very simple, and very American: You order tacos on your smartphone and also beam in your GPS location information. Your order -- and your location -- are transmitted to an unmanned drone helicopter (grounded, near the kitchen where the tacos are made), and the tacocopter is then sent out with your food to find you and deliver your tacos to wherever you're standing.

You pay online, so the tacos are simply dropped off at your feet by the drone helicopter, which then flies back to the restaurant to pick up its next order.

That's just all manner of awesome, it is.

Not a good plan. Too much chance of competing companies intercepting the copters. Need something faster.

Consider Taco Shell.

Your order is placed in a specially designed steerable artillery shell (existing technology. shouldn't be hard to plowshare), your GPS coordinates are fed into the fire-control system, and your meal is on the way at Mach 3. Could even make multiple deliveries in the same area with parachute-retarded sub-munitions.

Oh man, that's just nuts - great for parties or concerts though, large order, wide distribution, heck yes - cover at the door includes food delivery?

Mind if I borrow this quote ?

I assume you're my pal until you let me know otherwise

Everyone happily getting their cheap tacos delivered....

happy and fat....

completely oblivious to the fact that this is how the US will have the exact same levitating drone-bots that London is plagued with now.

Why are those tacos the exact same price delivered by a tacocopter that they'd cost you at Taco Bell?

Who Cares??? right?????

Thank Unkle Sam for the Government Subsidized delivery.

Don't mind the 30 cameras snapping pictures of everything going on in the area while deliveries are being made

Ah, but Jack, even THAT sword cuts both ways.

The more they spy on us, the more we spy on THEM.
Look at what it's done in respect to proving the conduct of police, and how pissed they are about it ?

Epic backfire, that, yes ?

It's very hard to argue with that logic Frem, but I still don't like it.

It's all part of my Theory of Speeding.

True, I've grown older and wiser, and very rarely do I speed more than the acceptable limits the situation calls for these days, but I still have the choice to try if I want to or I REALLY have to because I'm late.

I like the idea of being able to roll the dice. If I get busted by a cop that just happened to be sitting there, I have nobody to blame but myself. (And trust me I have, many, many times in my past)

In a world where everyone owns smart cars and GPS tracking and On-Star though, not only is there NO chance of getting away with it, but they could even remotely shut your car down with a push of a button.

I know that you know full well that there is ALWAYS an exception to the rule. The idea that nobody who is innocent runs is just plain BS.

Welcome to this brave new world. The all seeing eye even getting Frem on board via cheaply delivered tacos by remote controlled helicopter.

Oh the humanity!

Actually, it's funny that you ask that Signy

I actually downgraded my phone for an 9 dollar Nokia I found on Ebay. It's so old, that after I started using it, my cell phone provider's site was smart enough not to show my old phone as my phone in use, but it was old enough that they just said "unknown phone" with no picture where the pic of my old flip phone used to be.

My bro and my bro-in-law were spending Christmas Eve showing off all of the apps they had on their smart phones.

I interrupted them at one point and said.....

"CHECK OUT WHAT MY PHONE CAN DO!!!!"

I then proceeded to show them the LCD flashlight that I originally thought was a lens to a camera.

Yup.... that's all my phone can do.

1) Make calls
2) Alarm clock
3) Some light math that I could do in my head....
4) Flashlight

I've even blocked text messages from my phone since they cost 40 cents a piece without paying for the plan. When my friend Angie gasped when I said I didn't have text messaging after I missed a wedding of an acquaintance, I realized that maybe my fear of tech and my cheapness is seriously interfering with my social life.

Nope... you're baiting the wrong guy here Signy :)

Ayep, I have a primitive cellphone on purpose too.
Since sometimes I am workin in sub-zero conditions, that's actually useful cause the fancified ones and their widgets tend to stop working at about -15F, especially touch screens.

I'd like to build a cellphone out of one of those old white AT&T office phone handsets, just hang it on my belt by the cord, that'd be cool.
I still use an emulated ringtone of that exact sound - that horrific ring those AT&T sets had, or else my brain won't connect whatever electronic noise it makes to answer-the-phone.
This adds some hilarity cause when my emergency line DOES ring, out there in the night, you can hear it from anywhere in the complex, and so when some resident spots a creeper and calls me - that sound alerts said creeper that they've been spotted, and imma coming, resulting in them hauling ass up the road in a hurry.

What's hilarious about it is that if *I* spot them, I will get right in close, like just around the corner they're about to go round, and then hit the ring-test, just to screw with em.
But nobody wants to play any more....

Oh, and just as an aside, is this ole Judas Priest bit from 1982 not damn near prescient ?

Last year my cell phone company called us and said that my 8 year old cell phone would no longer work because they were getting rid of all annalogue signals. I was pissed off because I like my 8 year old cell phone, its the same age as my nephew was at the time, so I pissily bought the cheapest most basic phone they had, I don't use any of the new fangled stuff, I just use it to, gasp, make phonecalls.

Me too, Riona.
As the Tech Dept of my brain cell gets increasingly cranky and
unreceptive, I save it for the stuff I really want to know.
This does not include phones, which are supposed to be Easy!
