It depends on the kind of public insurance. But if the nation is paying for health care out of its coffers, which is coming out of their tax base, it would not be feasible to take on a whole bunch of old, sick immigres who haven't paid into the system while they were healthy.

At this point, I don't know if I can be convinced of the alternative.

So, all right then. Good luck.

Aha, but they don't want people who have pre-existing conditions. If you have a public health system, you don't want people coming to your country where it will be a cost to the system. That being said, most countries have private health options.

The issue is really that it is hard to emmigrate to most affluent western nations, almost as hard as it is to USA. In the EU, you don't need visas if you are part of the EU, and that has been a huge burden for the more affluent countries in that region. But if you fall outside of that, permanent residency is tricky. For most people, if they can get offered a job, they can be offered a visa, but that will usually be dependant upon them remaining in said job. The world is a place of many shut doors.

The USA would have to be one of the most difficult. Difficult, bureaucratic and mean, even to get in on a temporary visa, in my experience and anecdotally.

Well I certainly haven't played tag team with anyone, but I have disagreed with you. Sometimes that happens on these boards. If you feel persecuted by that, then maybe a break is a good idea and then come back when you feel up to joining in the fray once again.

GEEZER, hubby and I have looked into immigration policies specifically. But we are both too close to retirement, and with our disabled daughter, we would collectively be a burden on their healthcare system. We would be screened out.

Maybe you could come over here.

Hey Signe, that might be cool to move to Australia.

I want you here Byte.

I don't enjoy philosophy books either, I find them dull, if I wanted to read about that I'd just go online, its way faster. For pleasure reading its always novels and memoirs, it needs a beginning, middle, end and charactors. For informational reading ... well I don't do that very often and when I do its specific.

I assume you're my pal until you let me know otherwise. "A completely coherant River means writers don't deliver" KatTaya

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Byte, as I mentioned in another thread, RWE isn't for the faint of heart. I don't think anyone's "picking on" you; it maybe that what you're seeing as that is the nature of debate, which is most of what we do here. It gets personal (frequently!), but I haven't seen any generalized effort to pick on you lately. I view you as valued a member as anyone else here, but you do have to not take stuff personally most of the time to get by here. The important thing is to take care of YOU, however you do it. This place can be TOUGH!

Magons- thanks hon! Doesn't look like we fit into the desired skill set, but I'll look into it.

I looked and wouldn't you know, neither of us fit.

So OOC I went back to the NZ website, wondering if they might have a similar program, and once again I got blocked at the same step: Must be 55 or younger and in good health. I'm not younger than 55, and hubby is neither. Back to square zero.

Has this "rally" really made a difference?

As a native of the area... no. I mean we see every fucktard come thru, waving banners.. and what?

They "make their point" then go home.

Whatever.
