I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I want to learn to grow my own. Because, yanno, when the crash comes people will be jonesing for their caffeine.

Coffee is one of the most significant sources of anti-oxidants in the American diet. Moderate coffee consumption (less than 5 cups per day) is also linked to lower rates of Parkinson's. By THAT measure, I will NEVER get Parkinsons's!

Well, that's one thing Americans have talent in, strangely enough it seems almost innate rather than learned - we can grow just about anything, anywhere, hell folks can grow stuff in a friggin basement fer cryin out loud...

Of course, being hooked up with the local farmers is nice, since I am unlikely to ever want for coffee, tobacco or potatoes - and there's chicory but I dunno about caffiene content there.

Conversely they're unlikely to have non-functional equipment so long as I can find, build or modify parts.

I worry bout the cities, mostly - Detroit is progressing right along with secondary agri-enviro infrastructure, but they ain't there quite yet.

I did. In fact, I was following the story on the news since I saw a headline about
our team hadn't heard from the Russians in 4-5 days.

I do recall a simple example from HS math.

Given as fact: All men have noses.

Statement: James is a man.
Conclusion: Therefore, James has a nose. True or false?
The conclusion is true.

Statement: Jane has a nose.
Conclusion: Therefore, Jane is a man. True or false?
The conclusion is false.

In this way, our math teacher taught us how easy it is make false assumptions based on a true statement.

March 14, 2012 (WLS) -- A Chicago dog-musher didn't win the epic Iditarod sled dog race in
Alaska this week but in losing he saved a boy's life.

Former firefighter Pat Moon of Park Ridge, a cancer survivor, provided first aid to a boy on
Sunday who was hurt in a sledding accident in Ruby, Alaska.

Moon's dog team was in bad shape after tough winter training, and he had just scratched
himself from the race at the ruby checkpoint. That's when a woman came in and said her
son had smashed his head after hitting a parked snow machine.

"I was at the right place at the right time," said Moon. "Any one of them would have done it.
I just happened to be the one who scratched."

Moon went with a relative to the house 15 minutes away by snowmobile.

He relied on his EMT training to clean the wound and stopped the bleeding. The family says
Moon saved a life.

The movie is coming back to the theaters and I'll definitely be going to watch it. That movie seems to have been made for 12 year old girls who were almost ready for their loss of innocence process, it sure hit at the right time for me, I absolutely loved it and it was actually fairly significant in my girlhood. I haven't actually watched it all the way through since I was 13, we had it on video but then it got lost and left behind when everything got weird. So seeing it again is something I'm greatly looking forward to, cheesy as it is, maybe I'll not enjoy it at all as an adult, but I think because of its place in my development it will always be special to me, inspite of the horrid acting and lame dialogue.

But the real Titanic? What a tragedy, the perfect showcase for human arrogance.

About my TV?

It was on the antenna for most of its stay here, & reception was minimal.
No interest in the original network channels, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc.

When I moved to here, I had to get cable for the Internet. (It's a mystery,
all local 'Net and even Ma Bell don't offer service in the neighborhood.) At
first, they only let me have it as a package deal with cable TV. More than 6
months, I guess, I had normal cable reception: over 100 channels, clear as
a bell.

See, I'd long since adapted to Computer is interesting to me; TV is boring, but
sometimes has a good movie on. I admit, I was half-hearted in my attempts to
find stuff I liked on cable TV. Then they let me cancel TV & just pay for 'Net.

The TV's been out in the shed for a year or so now. But it's due to return so
as to watch my DVDs, maybe a few rentals.

At present, most of my TV-movies come via NetFlix streaming. Real people are
often more interesting.

Entertainment. Yah -- I get tired of my own company all the time.

Yeah, to get a decent deal on internet and cable, I had to get a bundle - internet, cable TV, and home phone. I tried explaining that I haven't had a land line in years, and don't even own a plug-in telephone, but they really didn't care. I ended up going with the bundle and just not having a phone - every time I needed something, I'd call, and they'd ask for my phone number, and I'd give 'em my cell, and they'd say 'That doesn't match what's on our records,' and I'd have to go and dig around for something with my phone number on it.

So this had gone on for a couple years, and then they started offering the same deal to "new customers" for much less than I was paying, so I called and went ballistic. And they dumped the phone, upgraded the internet service, and threw HBO, Showtime, Starz, Cinemax, and The Movie Channel, all for less than I was paying before.

And there's HBO Go for the computer, so I've been catching up. "Inside Job", "Too Big to Fail", etc. "Gasland" is on the list too, of course.

The U.S. Coast Guard has indefinitely suspended the search for survivors of a
boating accident off the San Francisco coast that left one person dead and four
missing in heavy seas on Saturday.

The accident occurred during an annual sailboat race around the Farallon Islands
that has been a tradition since the early 1900s. U.S. Coast Guard Officer Levi
Read said the Coast Guard received a mayday call from a vessel about 3 p.m.
reporting that another boat -- the 38-foot sailboat Low Speed Chase -- had run
aground on rocks near the islands.

A Coast Guard helicopter rescued two people from the rocks, Read said. An Air
National Guard helicopter rescued another person and also recovered the body
of a person who had drowned ...

FBI remains quiet on details of Coast Guard killings =>

An FBI spokesman says there's little new that can be released in the
investigation of a double homicide at a Coast Guard air station on
Kodiak Island.

Eric Gonzalez said Monday agents are not releasing details because it
could affect the integrity of the investigation.

The FBI is the lead agency in the shooting deaths of 41-year-old Petty
Officer 1st Class James Hopkins and 51-year-old Richard Belisle.
Hopkins was an electronics technician from Vergennes, Vt.
Belisle was a retired Coast Guard chief petty officer who worked at
the base as a civilian employee.

Gonzales says he can't comment on whether investigators have recovered
a weapon or why law enforcement officials continue to say there is no
direct threat to the community even though no suspect is in custody.
