"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Quote:

Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, a Fox News contributor, tea party activist and personal friend of Sean Hannity’s said in a sermon recently published to YouTube that America’s greatest mistake was allowing women the right to vote, adding that back in “the good old days, men knew that women are crazy and they knew how to deal with them.”

In the video, published to YouTube in March, Peterson explains that he believes women simply can’t handle “anything,” and that in his experience, “You walk up to them with a issue, they freak out right away. They go nuts. They get mad. They get upset, just like that. They have no patience because it’s not in their nature. They don’t have love. They don’t have love.”

There's more, of course. Read it here:

Of course, it's not like the GOP have really tried to enact any kind of actual legislation anywhere in this country to curtail women's rights, right?

Oh. They have? Yeah, they have. A lot. Here's just a partial list:

Mitch McConnell calls it a "manufactured issue" and says that we should ask women like Lisa Murkowski if women are under attack. Senator Murkowski was indeed asked, and this was her response: "It makes no sense to make this attack on women. If you don't feel this is an attack, you need to go home and talk to your wife and your daughters."

That's the response of a Republican senator who knows first-hand that this war on women is indeed all too real.

As Senator Mukowski is from Alaska, I'm sure she's seen 1st hand at the vile and derogatory attacks directed at her former Governor, Sarah Palin. Absolutely, she was attacked. Can't really deny that. ( And those attacks still continue to this day )

But as for the rest of it... purely manufactured and astroturfed. If you want to talk about a 'war on women', go look to Chechnya. Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakisant, Afghanistan... pretty much any Muslim dominated country. But in a country where women are on the USSC, have served as Sec.State, run businesses, states and cities... no. This is hype and contrived , by the Left, because they have failed in so many other areas, they need a big distraction.

There's no way I'm listening to that or reading the rest...just what you quoted is quite sufficient for me, thank you, and I haven't eaten breakfast yet!

Palin, in my opinion, was attacked for both reasons. Women in politics DO have it worse, and she's both an extremist and nuts...AND perceives any slight at all as an "attack".

But yes, there's a war--it's as much a war on religious grounds as anything else, it's just that the religious grounds have gotten POWER and women, being the ones who give birth, are caught in the middle. I can't remember seeing anything that goes after women themselves, just their reproductive rights (which things are bad enough, gawd knows!). Sure, there are mysoginists, just as there are racists, but if these recent actions hadn't given them the opening, they'd not be making so much trouble.

So I see it as more a war on women's reproductive rights, not women themselves. JMHO.

I dislike both Palin and Hilary, as I think there's a way to conduct oneself in an elected office, and it doesn't involve acting like a hypocritical petty corrupt asshole. I hold that same standard to men in power as well, and I generally think that anyone who runs for politics in this country is probably some kind of evil.

Sorry AU, while I do think some of this "war on women" is manufactured just to be divisive (like a number of other wedge issues), I take the right to vote pretty seriously. Once you disenfranchise women you're getting perilously close to the kind of society where they can't own property, are refused an education, or they're bartered around for arranged marriages like chattel. Because they wouldn't exactly have the voice to dispute those changes and that society because they CAN'T VOTE. And because not so long ago, that's what the state of things for women was, and because there's quite a number of people who misguidedly would like to go back to that. They think somehow it would return us to a better age or something.

Except, the thing is, they all try to give these high-minded reasons about why women shouldn't have any say in decision making processes for their own communities, that women should stay home for the sake of the kids, and how women need to be protected for their own good because they're crazy and lack any kind of sense. But really the interests here for this argument are far more selfish - women are taking jobs from them now, because women and families are no longer able to just rely on a male father figure to look after them. Ultimately it never should have been that way, as it's just as unfair to expect a man to look after a woman and pay child support with their meager salary as it is to expect a woman to sit around, be a baby machine, and be bored out of her mind. But nowadays due to the state of wages in this country, it's IMPOSSIBLE to go back.

Perhaps this isn't as dire a situation as the straight up murder of women, sure, there's always worse problems in the world, children are starving in Africa. But that doesn't mean this ISN'T a problem, or that it doesn't hit close to home.

This guy's rant is pretty much straight up misogyny. Not to say there isn't an equal problem with misandry in this country, but I have to call it.

I *DID* tell you that was the essential root of it - trying to strip them of the right to vote, cause THAT most of all is what offends them, and yet I caught all amount of flameage for some time about it.
Cause what follows naturally any revocation of the right to vote is then revocation of human rights and personhood, putting them in the same category I have been trying all my life to elevate youth out of.

So, now that the mask has come off and they've ADMITTED it - anyone still wanna flame me as being too alarmist, a conspiracy theorist and an uncompromising prick ?
Go right ahead, take a number, get in line.

It's a helluva comeback when you try to use countries that actually OPPRESS women to say there's no "war" on them here. I guess we gotta wait until they start stoning us in the streets and making us wear veils before it can be considered a "real" war, right? What is it he says? "crassic"? Not deluded; you had the first part right. Just as in the thread I just left, Raptor has the NEED, the desperate NEED to find something he can throw back when something bad anyone on the right does is discussed...even when he has to reach back years to find something. Happens again and again...one could call THAT a delusion, since it certainly is (or an obsession, or something), but he's not deluded on the topic, he's just stuck with his automatic reflexes. On the other hand, the delusion is
Quote:

No 'rights' are being stripped. Right to vote? Nope. Right to own property ? Own a business ? Nope. Drive a car? Nope. Right to buy and use your own contraception?
I'll debate that one.

1. How about right to privacy, which is what Roe v. Wade is all about? There is an obvious battle to try and overturn it; if it's overturned, there goes the right to privacy the Supreme Court founded it on.

2. How about Griswold v. Connecticut? That was the Connecticut law that prohibited the use of contraceptives. Yeah, Supreme Court struck it down, but it was the first BATTLE in the war to deny the right to contraception, so saying there's no effort to strip rights is incorrect. The recent passage of laws which might well make contraception illegal shows it's a "war" to deny the right to contraception, it's a war they just haven't (quite) won yet.

They're getting close, however.

3. How about Virginia's "personhood" bill? Contraception's
Quote:

hormones make the uterus a hostile environment for the zygote, causing it to pass out of the body with the woman's next cycle. If you assume a "person" begins at conception, birth control would necessarily be harmful to that person. Murder, if you will.Wiki
There goes the right to contraception.

4. How about the RIGHT TO LIFE?? The anti-abortion laws with no exception for endangering the life of the mother? Personhood USA's pledge states: "There are no exceptions in Personhood USA’s presidential pledge"--the only partial-caveat being "women will still of course have access to life-saving treatments and medical care"--in other words, they'll try to treat her and save the baby, even if it endangers her life. Google "no exception mother's life" and you'll find tons of cites arguing against the exception. I loved the reasoning in this one:
Quote:

Traditionally, pro-abortionists have used a time-honored and successful two-step strategy for enacting abortion on demand....to legalize it "for the mother's health" which, in practice, is exactly the same as abortion on demand http://www.ewtn.com/library/PROLENC/ENCYC051.HTM] So how about a war which brings about the endangerment of a woman's health or right to life?

Harken back to "Terms of Endearment" and what can happen to a women if she tries to carry a pregnancy to term when her physical condition prohibits it. The anti-abortionists would FORCE this on such women.

We're IN a war...there are just four of the "battles" to win that war. We haven't lost those rights quite yet (tho' the right to contraception is seriously endangered), but the idea is to WAGE the war; it can't be denied that there is one simply because the battles haven't been won yet. The battles are all around us. So yes, there is a war, and a very real one, on a number of women's rights, including, if they win, the right to LIFE for some women! Don't get much bigger than that.

Crazy Women are crazy....

The rest of the women would do themselves and their prodigy a favor by being louder than the extremists.

Palin and Hillary are nothing more than Snookie with political lipstick smacked on the pig.

Get yourself a serious candidate that isn't driven by sensationalism and I'm all about it.

We've already proven that a black president can't change a damn thing, just because he's black and "fresh", except to make things progressively worse for everyone. (That's not me speaking... that's 4 years of Obama jet-throttling us down the shit-tubes Bush Jr. already started us down)

I would have voted for Hilary in 2008, given that I would never vote for GWB-Clone McCain. In the end, after Obama was the Dem nominee, I didn't vote either way.

Don't blame me.... I didn't do it!!!!!

But seriously.... Mitt IS going to win in November. There is NO QUESTION about that.

If the Dems really want a fighting chance, they'll make an unprecedented move and remove Obama now and put a serious, level-headed white woman (not hilary) in the contending spot. (Not to be racist, but especially after how the last 4 years have panned out, anyone other than a white christian female wouldn't stand a chance against Romney.... )

I'm just calling it now....

If the Dems back Obama for re-election, they will fail miserably.

Kind of ironic they seem bent on running a candidate I have enough hard evidence to put in jail, hands down no bullshit.
The only thing about it what surprises me is that all the parties handed that evidence on a silver platter haven't seen fit to make any use of it yet, but maybe they're just feedin em rope.

Seriously, you also underestimate the bitter and volatile HATRED of the GOP which is boiling in the social-public kettle, just cause the only visible manifestation now is a few bubbles popping at the top, don't underestimate the turgid and roiling waters at the bottom - conditions in this country right now are all too damn similar to those just prior to the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror.

To be fair if the Democrats did choose a Republican woman I would probably vote for her over Romney. Depends on who she is, I was never a fan of Bachman. My, my, my; what happened to the Old Chris? I miss him; this one is so angry and forthright; after all, that's half of what I'm here for: to enjoy the idiocy.

I certainly share your feelings, but I thought it was up to me and Mike and Sig and those like us to do the dirty work, while you and Anthony, etc., sat back and drank your tea with lifted finger and made wonderful snide remarks. Sad to see you sink to our level (which isn't much above THEIR level...).

Yeah, the times they are a changin'. And to see idiots like AU & Hero acting all happy-happy-love-my-world as it begins to erode in front of their eyes makes me nuts. It's the whole "We don't torture" mentality all over again, and I've had it with disconnected shitheads. If there just wasn't so damn many of them...

Seriously guys? Romney's gonna win? How do you figure? Even without a fremstyle secret weapon. The GOP's lost the women vote. They've lost the hispanic vote. They've lost the youth vote. Running a Mormon, they've lost the South. And running the guy who invented "Obamacare" they've lost everyone but the heartbroken Democrats who want to lash out at their own.

Haven't y'all been watching the news, the GOP HAAAAAAAATES Romney. Have you seen those "endorsements?" Hardy freakin' har! For a while there, even Rick "I'm-loonier-than-Michelle-B-on-crack" Santorum had a chance against ol' Mitt. Hell, Ron Paul's still winning deligates! lol And Romney'll believe absolutely anything they tell him to, and has! The attack ads will be writing themselves. He's the worst kind of sub-John Kerry not-quite-charismatic second stringer, who happens to be unbelievably rich in an election cycle that the GOP has all but decided to sit out and wait for 2016 'cause they know damn well they got nuttin'.

Meanwhile, Obama is a warhawk who killed OBL, with an economy that is improving and will continue to improve throughout the election season. And NOBODY runs a political campaign like Barack Obama. I mean, the guy's middle name is Saddam Hussein (almost) and his last name freakin' rhymes with "Osama" and he STILL won last time around.

When it comes to Presidential elections, it's positives that win. What positives does Mitt Romney have? If you can find any, ya might want to let the GOP know, 'cause they don't seem to have found 'em yet.

I think it's too early to make any difinitive predictions, either way.

I agree with everything you say about ol' Mittens - but we live in a country full of stupid people who vote against their own best interests - and based on that, Mr. Etchy McFuckthepoor does have a shot.

Chris, I'm sad to hear they're getting to you. Don't let them; it's not good for your mental health! Yes, they reflect all too many in our country, but I try not to think about that. ;o)

Unfortunately, I'm with Story about the election. Hopeful, but depressed by what the American People have swallowed in the past...Bush, the Iraq War, Bush a second time, the 2010 idiocy, Tea Party...they bought it all, despite all the evidence to the contrary. The list of stupidity goes on, and I don't expect it to end any time in the foreseeable future.

"It's in your nature to destroy yourselves" is all too close to the mark for comfort.

We live in a system that is rigged and everything is stacked against us all. The people are indoctrinated.

All the time I see the people being blamed when it's the puppeteers who are the problem. All the time I see these arguments that we're all naturally self-destructive, when that's what the powers that be WANT us to think, because they want us to think we need their "patronage" and their "guidance" and their untouched international aristocrats to give us jobs and solve our problems and hold the reigns.

Meanwhile they're actually deliberately driving things worse and worser. They'll kill us all to make a world that's better for themselves. To be the only ones left. Murderers warmongers and POISONERS.

I don't know about the rest of the country, but Frem's right in regards to himself, and in regards to me. Boiling over is putting it lightly.

Yes. Thank you. We must properly understand who is destroying the environment, who is sending us to war, who is holding the reigns.

It is not The People. As an aggregate effect there's an impact, yes, yet that is the way that the system was set up, to most benefit those who covet money, and prize themselves.

We have been deceived. And we can not ensure our survival so long as the deceivers continue to ruin us and divide us, make us hate ourselves, question what is innate to us, put themselves above us and dictate our lives in wages, gas mileage, electrical bills, pollution, and bombs. But they can't make us stop caring about each other, about the world. That's their downfall. That will save the Earth, and save humanity.

Indoctrination is a funny thing like that, being it's not something they can control and has been forced onto them since preschool and up.

Oh, okay, they're just folowing order...

NO. Eff that.

Not buying it. Indoctrination explains how they got there, not why they STAY. Personal responsibility is not "but they made me".

Indoctrinization is not just following orders, it's being conditioned to be unable to realize that there was ever any other option.

It's a pretty hard thing to get over. Most never do.

Think about a Mormon polygamist community, and how out of touch with reality they are, and then apply large scale, and you have about the gist of it.

To put it another way...

Just following orders was the defense of the SS Nazi guys tried at Nuremburg, people who did ostensibly know better. Indoctrinization was how the Nazis used CHILD SOLDIERS to defend Berlin towards the end of the war.

Two very different things.

Here, more information.

Quote:

indoctrinate (?n'd?ktr??ne?t)

—vb
1. to teach (a person or group of people) systematically to accept doctrines, esp uncritically

Quote:

Indoctrination is the process of inculcating ideas, attitudes, cognitive strategies or a professional methodology (see doctrine). It is often distinguished from education by the fact that the indoctrinated person is expected not to question or critically examine the doctrine they have learned.

More than that, the process reduces the ability to critically examine a doctrine. This is why some people bounce around from cult to cult- the methods cults use to "teach" make them susceptible to the next thing that comes along that hits the programming right.

It's also, as I think you can infer, very common in military training and youth social instruction. Surely there are things you were taught as a kid that you can see had ulterior motives associated with them.

Here, I'll give you one that you probably will recognize. "You have to have a college degree to get a job in this market." They were saying that even in the dot.com boom I grew up in. To an extent it's okay advice, but then 2008 comes along, the economics all but dies, the job markets become nonexistent... And kids go to college anyway to go into debt and get degrees for those nonexistent jobs, follow the leader style. Why? Because they were told they had to have a college degree as kids.
