"I have a profound respect for the traditions of hunting that trace back in this country for generations, and I think those who dismiss that out of hand make a big mistake" said President Obama.

Responding to a question about whether he had ever fired a gun: "Yes, in fact up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time."

While his teenage daughters haven't partaken in skeet shooting - a sport where participants fire shotguns to break airborne clay disks - he has brought guests with him, he said in the interview. He said that he has "a profound respect for the traditions of hunting that trace back in this country for generations. And I think those who dismiss that out of hand make a big mistake." The remarks especially fired up some conservative blogs and news outlets.

Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tennessee, joined a chorus of skeptics who questioned President Barack Obama's recent comments about his hobby of skeet shooting. "If he is a skeet shooter, why have we not heard of this? Why have we not seen photos? Why hasn't he referenced this at any point in time?" Blackburn said Monday on CNN's "Erin Burnett OutFront". "We had this debate that is ongoing," Blackburn said. "You would have thought it would have been a point of reference."

Pressed as to whether there was a photograph of the president taking part in the sport, Carney said "There may be, but I haven't seen it". Carney added, "When he goes to Camp David, he goes to spend time with his family and friends and relax, not to produce photographs.”

The White House on Saturday released a photo of President Barack Obama shooting skeet last August, backing up a claim he made in a recent interview that some Republicans questioned.

My point: This is the impulse when you’ve bought wholesale into the demonization of this Democratic president. There is no assumption of goodwill or even the minimum amount of credulity that is normally extended to a fellow citizen, let alone to a twice-elected president. Common sense is set aside: if a skeet-shooting range is in place at Camp David, Obama must have ordered it destroyed or let it gather dust for ideological reasons. The idea that he might actually enjoy occasionally shooting clay pigeons as sport just doesn’t fit the mental script that sees him as rabidly anti-gun and considers the Obamas something other than full-fledged Americans.

Ay-yup! I suppose it wouldn't have mattered if there had been an entire photo album of him skeet shooting, but it's rather kind, in a way, that there's only one photo and that he DID say "all the time". Just think how much harder they'd have had to search, and stretch, and quibble, if they hadn't been given those two things to chew on! That would really have been unkind, making them work so hard...

But the bigger issue here is whether CNN Political Ticker is going to go after Niki for plagiarizing two of its articles without attribution in her opening paragraphs.

The show had a very broad spectrum appeal. You will see plenty of people on these boards who argue the show is liberal, conservative, libertarian, or anarchist.

Some of the crazy you see is something like a partisan allergic reaction - the more members of two opposing parties have to interact, the more they respond to the other point of view like a horrible pestilence of some kind. Some of them express themselves better under this affliction than others.

PN, however, is unique. He's something like a board pet because the board wouldn't be the same without his antics. PN is like the crayon scribbles on the stairwell of the Fireflyfans board, they've been there so long they kinda just BELONG there, and you can't imagine it any other way.

What he didn't mention was that 'Skeet' was the name of a drug dealer who used to sell on the corner near his house...

Naturally I say that with profound respect for the Office of the Presidency and African Americans in general. I think its nice to see someone at that level of govt shooting a gun and not hitting their friends in the face. From the picture Obama is taking careful aim at...something, and that's the first positive change I've seen him bring to the office.

I'm interested in what kind of shotgun he's using and if its a semi-automatic, as many skeet shooters use (my brother in law has a nice one), then will it be on the ban list?

I also demand to see his background check application so we can see if he lists Kenya as his place of birth...ok, seriously, I think we need to know if he was given a background check before purchasing the weapon. I'd also like to know what kind of firearms instructions he's had. Naturally if he did not purchase the gun it raises questions like 'whose gun is it', 'was it a gift and if so doesn't it fall under the gift laws and who gave it', and finally, 'does the President, now or in the past, own any guns and if so what kind and where are they located'.

I go shooting fairly often. I also support commonsense regulations on guns. Those are not contradictory positions, any more than wanting commonsense traffic laws makes you a hypocrite for driving a car.

For the president to be a hypocrite on this issue, you'd probably need to have a picture of him shooting up a school with a drum-fed assault rifle. A non-photoshopped picture, I mean. ;)
