I know for a fact that insulin is far more than $35. This entire story is a big fat hoax and has been since the beginning. I've got a big fat stack of receipts over the last year and a half to prove it. And on top of that, Diabetics need a LOT more than just insulin, and none of the prices of those other things have gone down a single penny either. Another good story ruined by an eyewitness. Now that your bullshit is out of the way... Let's talk about the debate last night. -------------------------------------------------- Trump will be fine. He will also be your next President.

For however many were watching this debate, Vance may have improved his image. He may have been able to settle some nerves about a second Trump administration. Walz may have been on his back foot the whole night. But in the end, Walz got the clip.

Quote: Days before Southeastern states were ravaged by Hurricane Helene—with catastrophic flooding affecting inland areas previously thought to be relatively protected from the increasingly frequent storms intensified by climate change—Congress left Washington without approving any additional funding for disaster relief. Despite the knowledge that Helene would make landfall on Thursday, lawmakers embarked on a six-week recess for the preelection campaign sprint last Wednesday, after passing a bill keeping the government funded temporarily through December. Left out of the measure: billions of dollars in supplemental disaster funding. Although the temporary measure extended funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency through December 20, the agency’s disaster relief fund is facing a $3 billion deficit by February. Rather than receiving the bulk of its money through the regular appropriations process, the relief fund is primarily funded through supplemental appropriations bills in response to major disasters—measures that come with their own complications.

I assumed that Vance would wipe the floor with Walz, and it sounds like he did. But it says something that our VP candidates sound more credible than our Presidential candidates. Trump is a salesman with ADHD. And Kamala, the Kackle Kween, apparently is so mentally deficient she can't handle a regular interview, much less a press conference. Sigh. Still. Trump's record is that he will work for the USA as he sees best, and Kamala's is that she's a deep state puppet who will tirelessly in everyone's interests except ours. ----------- "It may be dangerous to be America's enemy, but to be America's friend is fatal." - Henry Kissinger Americans support America
Quote:On Wednesday, the 158th anniversary of Minnesota becoming a state, Walz’s Turkey Taco Tot Hotdish was named the winner in U.S. Sen. Al Franken’s sixth annual hotdish competition for the Minnesota congressional delegation. Franken started the friendly hotdish off as a way to bring the delegation together and celebrate a Minnesota culinary tradition. After a blind taste test of all 10 Minnesota congressional member’s hotdishes, judges named Walz’s dish the 2016 winner, the third time in four years he has won. Walz’s Turkey Trot Tater-Tot Hotdish took the top prize in 2014, and his Hermann the German Hotdish took first place in 2013. The judges included: Award-winning Washington Post food critic Tom Sietsema, a native Minnesotan who donned a disguise to maintain his anonymity for when he visits restaurants; Dorothy Sietsema, Tom’s mother, and a Minnesota culinary authority in own right, who happened to be visiting from Worthington; and Ryan Jensen, the founder and owner of popular DC coffee shops, Peregrine Espresso, and native of Fergus Falls. Walz’s Turkey Taco Tot Hotdish victory makes it his third hotdish title. “It’s always nice to put aside our differences and come together over some great hotdish,” said Franken. “I would like to thank all of my colleagues for taking the time out of their busy schedules to join the competition, and congratulate Rep. Walz on his award-winning hotdish. It was delicious. “ “A hotdish dynasty is born,” Walz said, after winning his third hotdish championship. “In all seriousness though, I congratulate Rep. [Betty] McCollum on her delicious runner-up dish as well, and thank Sen. Franken again for putting on this friendly competition. It’s a great way for us to come together and celebrate our heritage, while building bipartisan relationships. As we move forward, let’s carry this spirit of bipartisanship past the hotdish competition, and work to solve the real challenges we face.” “This bipartisan event proves that nothing unites Minnesotans like hamburger, cheese, tater tots, and cream of mushroom soup,” Rep. Rick Nolan said. “Blended together at 350 degrees for 45 minutes, these four essential food groups keep our women strong, our men good-looking, and our children above average.” “The best part of the Minnesota delegation hotdish competition this year was tasting all of the wonderful dishes that remind me of our great state,” said Rep. Keith Ellison. “I thank Sen. Franken for bringing us together every year, and giving us the opportunity to try some hotdish. Congrats to Rep. Walz on his victory!” “There’s nothing better than bringing some Minnesota flavor to our nation’s capital,” said Rep. Eric Paulsen. “Tastiness is something that elected officials of all political stripes can believe in.” “I am a firm believer of bringing Midwest values to Washington and today we did just that – with hotdish,” said Rep. Tom Emmer. “There is nothing like a little Minnesota cooking to bring members of Congress from all over the political spectrum together. I am hopeful for a future hotdish competition win, just as I am hopeful for the future of this great nation.” The other members prepared the following hotdishes: Franken made Land of 10,000 Calories Hotdish; Sen. Amy Klobuchar made Babe the “Brew” Ox Steak and Ale Hotdish; Rep. Collin Peterson made Collin’s Rockin’ Rabbit “Hop” Dish; McCollum made Making Hotdish Great Again Hotdish; Rep. Ron Kline made Pizza Pie Hotdish; Ellison made The Most Beautiful Hotdish in the World: Green Chile-Chicken Casserole; Nolan made Cousin Jack’s Hot-Rolled, Corrosion-Resistant Pasty Hotdish; Paulsen made Boundary Waters Bacon, Beef, and Taters Hotdish; and Emmer made Havana Hotdish. Last year, McCollum bested the competition with her Turkey, Sweet Potato, and Wild Rice Hotdish. Walz’s “Turkey Trot Tater-Tot Hotdish” took the top prize in 2014, and his “Hermann the German Hotdish” took first place in 2013. In 2012. Franken’s Mom’s Mahnomin Madness Hotdish and former Rep. Chip Cravaack’s Minnesota Wild Strata Hotdish tied for first place. Klobuchar took top honors in 2011 with her Taconite Tater-Tot Hotdish. Tim’s Turkey Taco Tot Hotdish – 1 lb ground turkey — 1 large red bell pepper (or two medium ones) — 1 yellow onion — 1 can sliced black olives — 1 can diced mild green chilies — 1 bottle taco sauce (medium) — 1 16 oz sour cream — 1 bag of frozen tots — 4 cups shredded cheddar cheese — 3 cups sweet corn — cherry tomatoes — green onions — shredded iceberg lettuce — paprika — chili powder — onion powder — garlic powder — olive oil Directions Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Dice the onion and bell pepper into 1–inch dice and saut in 1 tablespoon of olive oil, salt and pepper for 15 minutes, until tender. Remove onion and bell pepper and set aside in a mixing bowl. Brown turkey. In a small bowl, mix 2 teaspoons each of paprika, chili powder, onion powder and garlic powder. Add half of mixture to the turkey while browning. Reserve the other half of mixture to sprinkle over the tots prior to baking. When finished, add the turkey in with the sauteed onion and bell pepper. Add black olives, sweet corn, chilies, taco sauce, 2 cups of cheese, and sour cream. Stir mixture until combined. Pour into a baking dish and sprinkle the remaining 2 cups of cheese on top. Add tots on top of the mixture and cheese. Sprinkle spice mixture on top of tots. Bake in 400 degree oven for 45 minutes or until tots are crispy and golden brown. After removing from the oven, sprinkle with shredded lettuce, green onions and diced tomato. Serve with sour cream, hot sauce, avocado, cilantro or your favorite taco topping.

Quote:Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas set off outrage Wednesday when he told reporters that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) “does not have the funds” to see Americans through the rest of this Atlantic hurricane season — after the agency spent more than $1.4 billion since the fall of 2022 to address the migrant crisis. “We are meeting the immediate needs with the money that we have,” Mayorkas said during a press gaggle on Air Force One en route to tour damage from Hurricane Helene in South and North Carolina. “We are expecting another hurricane hitting,” he added. “We do not have the funds. FEMA does not have the funds to make it through the season and what — what is imminent.” ... The December 2022 funding bill authorizing spending on migrants vaguely described the purpose as for “providing shelter and other services to families and individuals encountered by the Department of Homeland Security.” A relatively paltry $4 million has been paid directly to families and individuals in the week since Hurricane Helene ravaged the Southeast, killing at least 202 people and causing severe flooding damage from Florida to North Carolina, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Thursday.
Quote:For Fiscal Year (FY) 2024, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will provide $640.9 million of available funds to enable non-federal entities to off-set allowable costs incurred for services associated with noncitizen migrant arrivals in their communities. The funding will be distributed through two opportunities, $300 million through SSP – Allocated (SSP-A) and $340.9 million through SSP – Competitive (SSP-C).
Quote: Department of Homeland Security Announces $380 Million in Additional Funding to Communities Receiving Migrants Release Date: August 28, 2024 DHS continues to provide unprecedented resources to support border & interior communities WASHINGTON – Today, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), announced the allocation of over $380 million through the Shelter and Services Program (SSP). Through the SSP, DHS directly supports communities that are providing critical support such as food, shelter, clothing, acute medical care, and transportation to noncitizens recently released from DHS custody and awaiting their immigration court proceedings. FEMA, in coordination with CBP, is administering these SSP grants with state, local and tribal governments as well as nongovernmental organizations to help prevent the overcrowding of short-term CBP holding facilities. This funding augments the $259.13 million in SSP grants that DHS distributed in April 2024.

Quote:Tim Walz has a problem misspeaking. Since being tapped as Kamala Harris’ running mate, the folksy, plain-speaking Minnesota governor has had to explain a growing number of inaccurate statements — and at times embellishments — about his past. They range from comments about his military service to his visit to Hong Kong more than three decades ago to clarifying that his family didn’t specifically use in vitro fertilization. It’s unclear whether Walz’s verbal errors will undercut his credibility with voters. But the need to continually clean up those claims could politically hurt Walz and Harris, who are locked in a tight race with Donald Trump and JD Vance. And in some cases, key members of Harris’ circle weren’t aware of some of the inaccurate statements until they became public despite the vetting process, according to four people familiar with the conversations who were granted anonymity to discuss the matter.
Quote:Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz had an awkward moment at Tuesday’s vice presidential debate when moderator Margaret Brennan asked him to respond to a report that he was not in Hong Kong during the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989, contradicting a claim he has made on multiple occasions. Walz initially responded by sharing various unrelated details of his past as a teacher and a politician and describing himself as “a knucklehead at times,” but he did not acknowledge the specific discrepancy: Though Walz did travel to Hong Kong and China later that year, he did not arrive in either country until months after the protests. Pressed again by Brennan, he then said, “I got there that summer, and misspoke on this.” But then, confusingly, he proceeded to seemingly reverse his clarification: “I was in Hong Kong and China, during the democracy protests, went in.” The strange pattern continued at a campaign stop in Pennsylvania the next day. Walz both admitted again that he had misspoken and subsequently repeated a misstatement about being in Hong Kong during the democracy protests. What’s going on?
Quote:If Donald Trump wins this election, the postmortems on Kamala Harris’ campaign should put her choice of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate at the top of her list of mistakes. Much of America got to know Walz for the first time during Tuesday’s vice-presidential debate. Unlike his appearance at the Democratic National Convention, the Walz we saw on the debate stage didn’t have his words written for him in a teleprompter. And the unfiltered version underscored a very obvious fact about the governor: He is patently fake. For starters, how about this “Coach Walz” nonsense, which he broached yet again on Tuesday. Let’s be real, being an assistant volunteer coach isn’t exactly something to brag about. Walz always leaves out the “assistant volunteer” part of the title, to make himself out to be the second coming of Vince Lombardi. Then there was Walz’s goofy ’80s-sitcom-dad shtick that’s meant to be endearing and relatable but is as cringe as one of Kamala’s fraudulent accents. Just check out his answer to the question about why he’s claimed to be in Hong Kong during the Tiananmen Square protests when he was actually in Nebraska. “I will be the first to tell you I have poured my heart into my community. I’ve tried to do the best I can, but I’ve not been perfect,” he said. “And I’m a knucklehead at times, but it’s always been about that.” How comforting to know a self-described knucklehead could be one heartbeat away from controlling the nuclear codes. This filibuster of an answer went on for a full two minutes without addressing why he had lied about being in China at that critical moment, prompting co-moderator Margaret Brennan to press him for an actual response. “Governor, just to follow up on that, the question was, can you explain the discrepancy?” she asked. “No,” he said. “All I said on this was . . . I got there that summer and misspoke on this, so I will just, that’s what I’ve said.” Ah, he misspoke. Who among us hasn’t made such a flub, stating we were in Asia when we were actually on the other side of the world? The phony lied — just like he lied about serving in war zones when in reality he ditched his National Guard unit when it was about to be deployed to Iraq.

Quote:The saying goes, “don’t ask the question if you don’t want to know the answer”. US labour leaders have taken that advice to heart, largely declining to poll their membership on what political positions their unions should take. The problem is that, for many of them, their own progressive instincts are often woefully disconnected from the views of their members. Public polling typically shows union members are only slightly to the left of the general public. Nearly three-quarters of potential private-sector union members, who work full-time in non-supervisory roles, say they would prefer organisations to stay out of politics and focus only on the workplace. Among those who say they would not vote to join a union, “union political involvement” is the top reason cited. Still, the labour movement’s leftward tilt survives on the circular logic that unions support Democrats, which goes to show the Democratic party is the pro-worker one, so that’s who they support. At least, it survived until last month, when the International Brotherhood of Teamsters took the extraordinary step of releasing its own extensive internal polling data to explain its decision not to endorse a presidential candidate. Among Teamsters members, Donald Trump led Kamala Harris by more than 25 points. What would the margin be among the autoworkers, steelworkers or carpenters, whose unions all endorsed Harris? It seems likely that Trump would have been the pick of many of them — at least, that should be the presumption until their unions conduct and release polling of their own. Still, the labour leaders may not care. Again, look to the Teamsters. While the national organisation declined to issue an endorsement, many regional and local councils have done so. In Florida, the polling indicates that Teamsters members would prefer to see their union endorse Trump over Harris by 63 per cent to 35 per cent. Every single Teamsters council in Florida endorsed Harris anyway.

AMERICA LAST. ----------- "It may be dangerous to be America's enemy, but to be America's friend is fatal." - Henry Kissinger AMERICANS SUPPORT AMERICA Republican senator and vice presidential candidate JD Vance called the Federal Emergency Management Agency's spending actions a "disgrace" roughly a week after he skipped the vote that would have provided the agency with more funds. https://www.newsweek.com/jd-vance-fema-funding-hurricane-disgrace-1964231 True Americans (Trumptards are untrue) would not support a tax-cheater. Trump doesn't pay his taxes and so FEMA doesn't have money for hurricanes. By the way, Signym, in past days, America has spent tens of trillions of dollars to stop Russia from taking over the world. And so America spends a few billion in the present day to stop Russia from taking over a little corner of the world in Ukraine. Between 1940 and 1996, the U.S. spent at least $11.3 trillion in present-day terms on nuclear weapons development. Over half was spent on building delivery mechanisms for the weapon. $709 billion in present-day terms was spent on nuclear waste management and environmental remediation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_weapons_of_the_United_States The Joss Whedon script for Serenity, where Wash lives, is Serenity-190pages.pdf at https://www.mediafire.com/two

Quote:Originally posted by SIGNYM: I read, and I can't where, that FEMA is deliberately bolluxing local rescue efforts in order to interfere with the vote come November. The thought is that people in metro areas will be able to vote, while those in the hinterlands, where rescue efforts are being thwarted, will be too preoccupied just getting their feet under them to vote. It would be the equivalent of trying to hold a vote in LA after a major earthquake.
