Last I looked ... Thursday... we were on a comfortable slide into fall. Temps lowish 80s (27s) for the foreseeable future.

Now they're predicting temps from 89F (32C) to 94F (35C)! So I watered the property today to keep my plants alive.

Fortunately temps will be 65-ish (18-ish) at night so everything gets a chance to cool down.

The one exception is Brazil's dependence on Russia for 40% of its fertilizer. Nonetheless, LatAm is so tied into the dollar that they're more afraid of secondary sanctions.

First off... WE didn't win the war in Europe. Russia did. When were we supposed to have nuked Russia, since we were all busy fighting the Nazis and fascists. Remember? Nazis? Fascists? We had our hands full with an enemy then, and it wasn't Russia. You post as if nuking Russia was ever a strategic possibility. It wasn't.

And our nukes didn't end the war in the Pacific, either. It's widely accepted that the Japanese were ready to surrender by then; destroying Hiroshima and Nagasaki were just flourishes in a grande finale.

Taking out the Crimean Bridge would never have guaranteed a victory in Ukraine. Russia's logistic lines are too widely distributed.

You're right in that we (i.e. you, and people like you who are in power) grossly underestimated Russia's staying power, economically, politically, and militarily. I could quote you chapter and verse all of the ridiculous things YOU posted about Russian incapacity: from genetic flaws in the Russian character to waging war like Stalin.

Your problem is, you believed your own shit, even as I was warning you that Russia was going to win.

And you STILL believe your own shit. You still think like we would have won in Vietnam if only we had tried harder. Your delusional propagandistic thinking is a flaw that, on its own, earns you a bucketful of misery which each war that we lose.

But in addition, you (and people in power like you) never, ever question our warmongering: Why were we in Vietnam in the first place? Why are we so hot to destroy Russia? And that fatal flaw will continue to earn us misery, until you/they learn better, or until we're too weakened to wage war, or until we nuke the world.

So just stop with the warmongering, already. It's not getting us anything we need or even want.

Indeed. He gets his ass handed to him in other threads, and instead of rethinking his assumptions he runs here: the one place I'm not gonna argue with him. And he talks about ME running away!!!

For me they are just a nuisance. Had to take a pair of dark glasses with me because the drops make your eyes sensitive to light.

At least the exam came out alright. Eyes are nice and healthy. There is a slight change in my vision but nothing that warranted new lenses for my bi-focals.

Good deal. It's satisfying when I can cross things off my list.

I've been doing a lot of internet stuff, and oh, how much I hate it.

I had my appt at UCLA and they pissed me off bc I specifically asked for an expert on vasculitis. I even called ahead of time to CONFIRM their doctor was experienced, and when I got there I found that - altho well intetioned- she was just a young rheumatologist in training. It's like needing a brain surgeon and getting a general surgical resident.

Yanno, I've put off treatment for 6 weeks for this visit bc I'm uncertain about both the dx and the tx. So I called yesterday and vented - politely - and they got me a visit with the expert in two weeks. But in addition to my hand carried records, they want a bunch of CT scans on DVD and other records. So online I go, trying to work my way thru their online medical records requests. Each form for different departments was a little different, and sometimes it was unclear what they were asking. (The person asking for the records... is that me? Or the UCLA rheumatologist?)

So after a few false starts and phone calls, I think that's done.

And I was trying to link a couple of bank accounts. More false starts and phone calls!

But one thing the rheum did was order (more) blood tests at UCLA. And astonishingly the marker for my particular disease - ANCA- turned negative. WTH?

SIX, it would be as if your LADA marker were to disappear and your need for insulin reduce.

Anyway, ANCA- negative vasculitis does occur. But between that and the fact that the pathology results are NOT [ETA] definitive either makes me glad I'm getting an expert opinion. Bc if I've been misdxd with something that serious, I surely don't want such a consequential treatment either. But if I need it, I better get it done.

I don't think mine is going anywhere. I've done the whole grieving process and I'm long past acceptance at this point though. I'm just hoping that LADA is the only thing I get and I don't end up with a couple more like MS and Lupis on top of it.

Full List of Republicans Who Voted Against FEMA Relief Before Helene Battered Their Home States...

As usual with the M$M, this is a misrepresentation. FEMA, and the Federal govt, is funded thru December. Here's what happened

Quote:

Days before Southeastern states were ravaged by Hurricane Helene—with catastrophic flooding affecting inland areas previously thought to be relatively protected from the increasingly frequent storms intensified by climate change—Congress left Washington without approving any additional funding for disaster relief.

Despite the knowledge that Helene would make landfall on Thursday, lawmakers embarked on a six-week recess for the preelection campaign sprint last Wednesday, after passing a bill keeping the government funded temporarily through December. Left out of the measure: billions of dollars in supplemental disaster funding. Although the temporary measure extended funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency through December 20, the agency’s disaster relief fund is facing a $3 billion deficit by February. Rather than receiving the bulk of its money through the regular appropriations process, the relief fund is primarily funded through supplemental appropriations bills in response to major disasters—measures that come with their own complications.

It sounds to me like the REAL problem is the way FEMA is "usually" funded, i.e. piecemeal, on a disaster- to- disaster basis, rather than receiving a regular yearly budget.

Given that, it was extremely short sighted not to vote for ADDITIONAL funding, knoeing that disaster was bearing down on eastern states. Also, we should expect more and more climate related disasters bc of global climate shift.

Quote:

THGR And now it's, please Mr. President, can we have some money. Actually, can we please have lots and lots of money.
Well, there is enough $$ in the FEMA budget for them. It's the next disaster that gets shorted.

Yeah, fuck those who voted against additional funding.

*****

FEMA is a large, lumbering agency, very slow on its feet in providing immediate aid like rescue, water, food, shelter, and utility restoration. That usually seems to be handled by county and state firefighters (rescue), police, and relief agencies; and utility consortia. Maybe the best thing FEMA can do is help fund local/ county rescuers and beef up emergency preparedness on the front end, and low cost loans and grants on the back end.

Not really sure how that would work best, but something to think about.

Since we don't have a working PM function anymore, I think maybe one of these days I should make a burner email account for you to email me your own email addresses, and then I can message you from my real email once I know it's you and not Ted or Second.

This site isn't going to last forever and it would be a shame to lose contact completely with some of you here when that happens.

I am guessing that you are unaware of the connection between paranoia and right-wing politics. Who knows?
https://www.google.com/search?q=paranoia+and+rightwing+politics

The right-wing paranoia problem
Chris Hayes breaks down the effects of the “constant stream of paranoia” presented by right-wing media. “The idea that America is a crime-riddled dystopia. That behind every corner or knocking on your door is someone who wishes you harm. That the young women who accidentally pulled into your driveway or the child who rang your doorbell on mistake are there to kill you.”

The Paranoid Style in American Politics
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Paranoid_Style_in_American_Politics

The Paranoid Style in American Politics by Richard Hofstadter
https://harpers.org/archive/1964/11/the-paranoid-style-in-american-pol
itics
/

Hofstadter was writing in 1964, but could have written the same today:

Why They Feel Dispossessed

If, after our historically discontinuous examples of the paranoid style, we now take the long jump to the contemporary right wing, we find some rather important differences from the nineteenth-century movements. The spokesmen of those earlier movements felt that they stood for causes and personal types that were still in possession of their country—that they were fending off threats to a still established way of life. But the modern right wing, as Daniel Bell has put it, feels dispossessed: America has been largely taken away from them and their kind, though they are determined to try to repossess it and to prevent the final destructive act of subversion. The old American virtues have already been eaten away by cosmopolitans and intellectuals; the old competitive capitalism has been gradually undermined by socialistic and communistic schemers; the old national security and independence have been destroyed by treasonous plots, having as their most powerful agents not merely outsiders and foreigners as of old but major statesmen who are at the very centers of American power. Their predecessors had discovered conspiracies; the modern radical right finds conspiracy to be betrayal from on high.

Oh... It's not paranoia. You posted this than followed it up with two more posts with your fan-fic about Biden* assassinating Trump on inauguration day, and I have a long archived list of your history of insanity here.

My YouTube channel links directly back to me since I actually earn money on it. Not a lot, but it is what it is. There's no freakin' chance you're ever going to know what my channel name is.

Best case scenario you try to get it taken down. I don't even want to think about the worst case scenario. I don't imagine you'd ever dare come up here yourself, but I've yet to be SWATted, and you're exactly the type of person who would try to get somebody murdered by cop.

You might be predictable, but you're a psychopath. I don't need that in my life. I already get far too much of you here as it is.

In any event... Keep your bullshit out of the Garden. Talk to me in the Russia threads if you feel the need to address me.

Since 6ix doesn't click links, I will quote the ending of "The Paranoid Style in American Politics". When written in the 1960s, Trump would be claiming fake bone spurs to avoid being drafted. His fears were real even if the spurs were fake. Later, Trump would go completely paranoid, escaping into fantasies about extreme danger surrounding him and his likewise paranoid Trumptards.

"A distinguished historian has said that one of the most valuable things about history is that it teaches us how things do not happen. It is precisely this kind of awareness that the paranoid fails to develop. He has a special resistance of his own, of course, to developing such awareness, but circumstances often deprive him of exposure to events that might enlighten him—and in any case he resists enlightenment.

We are all sufferers from history, but the paranoid is a double sufferer, since he is afflicted not only by the real world, with the rest of us, but by his fantasies as well."

Never know about the tiles.

Well, the vampires are few blocks away and so is the pharmacy which was why I was waiting on a bus. Grocery store is close and so is my doctor. The doctor I will have to see after the vampires as that is for my thyroid med and he will have to fax off a prescription for that and one seizure med. The old one. Have to talk about the new one.

I figured I'd repost here since you may not have seen it and/or so it doesn't get buried on you....

That's strange. I thought you had just change it on your own.

Let me try it...

Nope... Works fine for me. Maybe the site hosting it was down for a while?

Anyway... Here's 2 versions of your 2nd flag reduced to 75% and 50%.

And the first flag at 25%

Plummer was in today and replaced my kitchen tap that I thought was going to be replaced in the Spring. Still need to work on the bathroom sink. Going to come back next week and do that. That will be good.

That's sweet Brenda.

Replacing faucets is one of the few things on my short list that I miss about apartment living. I know that there's no chance the ones I've recently replaced are going to outlive me. I probably have 1 or two more replacements before I'm gone, and they just keep getting harder and harder to do as I get older.

It is and it even comes with a sprayer for things. This faucet set is smaller than the older one but at least now I won't have to listen to dripping sounds if I don't make sure it's turned off. Or worry about it coming off in my hand if I press too hard on it. The washers and stuff were gone.

He has to come back because he didn't have the right stuff to get at the junction to clear it out. I told him what my brother's friend said and he agreed. That comes under the heading of "No Duh." But he was a nice young man and very good looking. *L*

Good for you!
I was awake from about 0230 to 0700 this stupid o'clock, and all I managed to do was sort the mail basket and toss out some old magazines.
And trust me, I have PLENTY of quiet things I need to do when I can't sleep!

Well, I ran into a bit of scary health complication past couple of days. I'll tell you about it when we figure out what happened.

Yeah, I combed the living room carpet and then picked some stuff up off the kitchen floor.

I've been waking up at odd hours as well because I am so uncomfortable sleeping in this chair. I might try sleeping on the floor tonight. Haven't made up my mind.

Oh, no. I hope you can figure it out.

I haven't been sleeping all that well or regular for quite some time myself Sigs. I feel for you. Been dealing with insomnia on and off all my life since I was 5 years old. Been a long time since it's reared its ugly head for me. I always snap out of it eventually though. Hopefully soon.

Oh boy. I hope everything's alright when you get it looked at. I'll say a little prayer for you.

Did you see the flags? I resized them for you the other day.

Ruh Roh.... Was he a little Logan.

Oh yeah? Is the sprayer on the side of the basin or on the nozzle itself?

I saw the flags, thanks SIX! I haven't had a chance to add one of them to my signature yet.

I generally don't get flustered about health issues anymore, but I get anxious about my kidneys for sure. I'm treating myself with prednisone, under a Drs orders, but since it doesn't QUITE seem to be working at the relatively modest dose, I'm gonna dig around in the frig for the spare prednisone that I think is in there and give myself the 1 mg/kg jolt that's recommend to halt GPA flares. If that's what's really going on it might help. And if not, it won't hurt. Monday I get back in touch with Dr Rheumatologist and Dr Nephrologist and get checked out.

Also Monday I go to the bank and finish setting up an account.

Speaking of which ... Jeez, can you believe I found TWO notices of "data security breach" in the mail??
One was from an insurance company, one was health related. I'll add it to the pile of three others we got recently. Seems like somebody is going full -bore to hack every conceivable account and data base available! That's what we get for "them" using MS server software and hiring nincompoops!

Well, I gotta calm myself down or I'll never get to sleep. Believe or not, a nice warm cuppa with milk and a little sugar usually does the trick.

No, not a Logan look a like but still very easy on the eyes.

It's on the right side of the faucet. The faucet is separate from the sprayer.
