Oh Oh! Me too. (Plus my husband)

I still remember watching "Train Job" for the first time and taping it so my husband could watch. (He was in the den trying to get some work done.) I went right in to him after the show and drug him out to the living room and started the tape.

And I've been a member here since April 12, 2003.

PsychicRiver:

Devoted fanatic since the first five minutes of The Train Job, seen at work, based on trailer seen during football game on F*x. Originally thought: 'Cowboys in space? Yeah, but it's sci-fi on TV, so I'll give it a try'. Afterwards, I was impressed at how natural it seemed to have low-tech civilizations on newly terraformed bodies. Used to watch Firefly, then switch over to SciFi for Farscape. Science Fiction Fridays! I was in heaven...

Regularly posted on alt.tv.firefly, first in January '03, because of disbelief over Firefly's cancellation (I thought 'hiatus' meant hiatus, like the slow child I am). I remember how psyched I was when F*x showed the fantastic 2-hour episode of Firefly in mid December '02! Wow, they were really going whole hog for this great series! When Firefly didn't show up the next week, or the week after that, I figured it was similar to how Farscape used to show new eps for 8 weeks, then rerun them, then show new eps, then rerun. I had no idea for the first month that it was gone forever.

Moved here in April '04 because a poster on a.t.f. referenced this site. Made FFFn my home because it was easier to navigate and write on (for me) than the OB, which also left something to be desired in terms of topics...

The NOB, which I tried contributing to, suffers from the same problems as the OB, IMO: it's more like a chat room, than a discussion board. Haken gives us a couple of options in terms of interface here at FFFn; I use the default one, with messages from the General Discussions board listed in order of latest activity. This is my start page when I launch Firefox. I like the way that all the responses to a thread are shown on a single page; one need only scroll or use CTRL+F to find a person's response on that topic. At the OB & NOB, the default interface forces you to 'page over' too much.

I still occasionally lurk at the NOB: I really dug their recent thread featuring female Browncoats' cleavage shots. As much as I like cleavage, it's still not enough to make me give this place up...

Chronologically,

zoid

Fan since day one of airing. I had no idea they were being shown out of order, I just liked it. I used to tape Firefly and John Doe. Firefly is the only show I've ever....obsessed about. It's the only thing I've ever obsessed about. I'd pay good money to have it back on the air, as if no time had passed.

Oh, to live in that 'actual future'. What did I ever do so karmically wrong to wind up with my consciousness shunted down this branch of reality, with no Firefly in it?

I'm included in this bunch, PsychicRiver. I watched, or taped and then watched, every episode as it aired (except for Ariel - forgot to set the timer that night). I was extatic when I heard the DVDs were coming out. I bought them, watched them all in 2 sittings, then went on the web and found this place, and I've been darkening Haken's doorway almost daily ever since.

I was writing a big long response...
about how when basketball would pre-empt the show I would call the local station
to be sure they would run 'Firefly' after the game
(they were always very nice about it)

I was a big Whedon fan before so it was easy for me to recognize the greatness of Firefly right away....

Sign me up. I was skeptical about the show, (after hearing rumors that it was "less funny" than Buffy and Angel -- ha!), but I couldn't hold on to skepticism for too long. I'll never forget the first commercial break of the Train Job. I turned to my husand and said, "Am I going out of my mind, or were they speaking Chinese??"

But let's not forget that newbies and DVD recruits are just as cool if not cooler than us old fogies!

From the first U.S. aired episode-which we know now wasn't the pilot...i was hooked and knewit would be entertaining cuz it is Joss, after all. For the first time, felt the need to write Fan Fiction...huh, wonder why?

Add four - I was hooked from the first commercial, it took Train Job to hook my 2 kids and husband. I was SOOOOOOO upset when they "hiatused" it, and bought the DVD the first chance I got. I remember being really confused about the "girl in a box" they'd kept referring to in the commercials, until they FINALLY showed Serenity. I love my DVD set - it's made several converts, and the series makes SO much more sense in order! And I can get a REALLY good look at Jayne's cunning hat - I finally found the right color yarn!! WOOHOO!

Add me to the registry. I watched the Train Job, and then hunted down a murky copy of the original cut of Serenity on the Internet. The file was made from a VHS copy of a copy of a copy.... I actually still like that cut a bit better then the one that finally aired.

I think i declare myself first official fan. I knew I would like the show from the previews. Really. Wash's "OMG who's flying this thing? Oh right, that would be me." Cracked me up every time, and I spent all of the Train Job waiting for him to say it...but he never did because fox is STUPID!

I thought I'd missed the premeire too, but I actuallyd didnt want to see FireFly, I'd seen the fox advertising and thought it looked like crap, but I accedently turned on the TV to watch "JohnDoe"'s premeire (a great show) an hour earlier then it actually was, and the rest is history. And the whole thing was great, but when I saw Mal kick Crow into the ships engine, I knew we had a keeper... Those Fridays were the best days ever.

Count me in this club too. I had seen the previews, and even though they did not do the show justice, they were enough to get me to watch "The Train Job." I already knew it was not the pilot, but liked it anyway. Unfortunately, my vcr (or me) screwed up for "Bushwacked," but I watched all other episodes as they aired, and I pre-ordered the DVDs as soon as they were available. Have watched each episode at least a dozen times since last December, most recently when I purchased a second set so I can loan it out and hook other fans. A third set is on its way to me, which will be donated to my local library.

My husband and I remember sitting down to watch the first episode of Firefly when it was ACTUALLY ON for 2 reasons:

1. We were out of state (in VA instead of PA)

AND

2. I had been mesmerized into watching "Glitter" prior to the actual showing of The Train Job. Thank God it was so good or else we'd still be scarred...

Count me in! Does it still count even if
I wasn't there at the very beginning? I missed the Train Job because I had to work . Since I was a huge fan of Buffy and Angel I really wanted to see it, but I was somewhat skeptical since I had falling prey to the whole 'they had to redo the pilot' thing, not knowing at the time that the Fox execs were, well, Fox execs .

Well, eventually one Friday I was at home and saw part of Our Mrs Reynolds. By Out of Gas I was hooked. After the series ended its run on Global/Fox I stayed up until 1:30 am on Sunday night/Monday morning to catch the episodes I missed when they aired on a channel in Newfoundland (they must have had a deal to air a certain number of episodes) so I managed to catch Safe and Shindig (as well as repeats of Out of Gas, Ariel and Serenity).

Until the DVDs came out I relied on my tape collection, unfortunately my evil Alliance-built VCR ate my Serenity/Shindig tape .

I lurked around the OB for a long time before signing up, although I never really posted. During one of the times when everyone was talking about where to go if the board was shut down I found my way here and have been here ever since.

Me too, and my hubby. We were beside ourselves when we heard Joss had a new series, and then when my hubby found out it was a space western he jumped up & down, grinning & repeating "he got my note!" over and over again. (Not a literal note - an expression of happiness for when something comes out that seems to be exactly what you never knew you always wanted.) We have a picture from the EW Fall TV Preview showing the whole cast taped to the wall in our office.

We taped the Train Job because we weren't home that night, and because we'd just moved into our new home we didn't know yet that our television reception was AWFUL. So we sat through the entire episode just listening to the sound & watching snow w/the occasional glimpse of show. (Lemme tell you, the whole thing made much more sense once we could see it, as well!) In fact, that mishap was the entire reason we got cable; there was no way we were going to miss another episode.

I joined here in March, once it was clear the 'hiatus' was spelling certain death, because the official board was full of too many of the type of people that make me hate chat boards and FFF.net seemed infinitely more human/civilized. It was (and is) actually the only chat board I've ever joined.

My wife and I loved the show from the beginning of Train Job. Actually, the voiceover by Book really got me interested - I loved the 'solar system' part, and babbled incessantly to my poor wife about how nifty it was that they DIDN'T have FTL.

Then they went and changed the voiceover to Mal's, and I figured they changed their minds...ah, well.

After watching Train Job, by the way, my wife and I agreed that it just seemed like the cast CLICKED from the very, very beginning; like they'd been playing these roles their entire lives. Just the magic of Firefly; I think that's a lot of what makes Serenity feel like home.

He was ill premier night. We watched Train job in his hospital room. Hooked from the beginning. He definately was in when Mal sent crow into the engine. I don't remember when I found my way here. Only recently did I start talking to people. Im really shy. Got the dvds as soon as they came out. Suncoast misquoted the box set for 19.99 and gave me that price even though I was willing to pay more. Waiting almost patiently for the movie.

I too, have been onboard since the beginning. I remember seeing commercials and thinking to myself "Self, that show looks mighty interesting." and then I'd reply "I couldn't agree with you more Self. Oh and look at that, the show is made by that guy who makes Buffy the Vampire Slayer -why it must be TV gold."

When I first saw Train Job I remember wondering where that heavily promoted "girl in a box" was. At one point I had every episode recorded. I watched them until my VCR destroyed the tapes. I was sad to say the least , but then my friend told me about the DVDs coming out and I was all . Not long after that I found my way here.

I was definitely intrigued from the previews but as fate had it my wife and I missed the first couple televised episodes. We picked it up, I think it was Shindig, later and were hooked. As it was, we didn't even know about Fox's mangling and skipping episodes until "Serenity" was shown at the end of the run. We were ticked off like the rest when it was cancelled and beyond ecstasy when the DVD was announced. Pre-ordered the set the first day it showed up on Amazon, when it already said it was sold out during pre-order.

I had heard about this "Sci-fi-ish show from the guy who made Buffy" that was due to premiere in about 3 months, and knew then that I was going to be a fan.

Then I watched "The Train Job" and knew I was right... and that the show was doomed to failure, because it was a well written, well shot, well acted program with an interesting premise... airing on FOX on Friday nights...

Once again, no one learned from Star Trek's sacrifice...
