Hello :)

Of course this is pure fantasy - but as a dream job working on Firefly would have been it for me.

So I'm curious; what title would you have loved to see your name under every week in the credits...?

For me it would have been:

How about you :) ?

Pretty much anything short of "Dedicated to the Memory of."

But yeah, as a writer by profession, I'd've loved to get my first screen credit on Firefly. Heck, even if was just proofreader, or typist, or a "story by" (as opposed to "screenplay by"), or charitable donation of a printer and paper supply.

I'd so have to be a writer. That way I could write myself into the show as Serenity's newest crew member. Not really sure what job I could do. I don't cook. I don't clean. I can't fix anything. I have enough problems driving a car, so I don't need to try my hand at flying a ship. I don't look very tough. I can't aim a gun to save my life. Hmm...surely there's gotta be something I'd be good at.

I find it interesting that so many of us did not choose acting. We seem to be writers and designers.

However, I would be happy to be Jewel's body double if she had to get really close to Sean. I'd be very agreeable to getting really close to Sean. If needed. I could lie next to (or on) Sean. I bet she's uncomfortable kissing a man that isn't her husband. I can do that too--because she's uncomfortable.

Surround mixer. I hardly even do any stereo recording any more, everything is in 5.1, and I think I'm getting pretty good at it. I was *slightly* disappointed that the audio on the Firefly DVDs was not surround. If somebody gave me the original masters, I'd remix the whole series!

Either that or 'gack', which is industry slang for the visuals that are shown on the screens and displays in scenes...any kind of display gfx that's digitally composited in later.

Are you insane? If you are you are ready to be a writer. If you like the idea of writing grab onto it, it's a good goal.

Just remember something, you'll need a "real job." Being a writer isn't a profitable profession. You always hear about so and so who got such and such amount of money, but the vast majority of everything is never published.

It’s not that all of the unpublished authors suck, though many do, it is just that the industry is about profit. Even if they have the best book in the world they might not publish it if they didn’t think it would make money. How they decide what will make money is beyond me. However it is they’re right, they do make money.

Some of the crap I’ve seen published and the gold I’ve seen rejected makes me doubt the intelligence of the human race. It’s like TV really, the Firefly type shows often get cancelled and Survivor just keeps going on and on.

Writing is work, you have to work to get the characters to tell you what your going to do next. We could use more good writers in the world so keep trying to be good enough to write for a Joss Whedon project.

End Rant

*Grin* I love getting posts like that, they make me happy for some reason...^_^

I've tried to bury myself in the writing world as much as possible, conversing and interacting with all sorts as much as possible. I've always wanted to do something creative with my life, and writing has always amazed me with how it can unfold and twist and turn and do things even the author would never expect.

But I've always wished the creative career paths weren't so 'iffy.' I want to write, or create, or act, but I'm so frightened by the fact that a life in those depends so much on OTHERS. Which is just...bleh. ^_^ But I can't turn away from them...I just love working with well anything...lights, colors, actors, characters, words...so I can't figure to let the mainstream-ness of today get in the way.

I thank you for your post. Like I said, I love getting posts and replies like that from others...I think this one will go on my wall with other quotes and 'rants' from others. (That's a good thing, by the by. :)

The carrers are iffy, so don't count on one. Find something else that you like doing that will pay the bills and leave you enough time to write.

I think I'll end up a Math or English teacher.

Remember who you're writing for, whether it is for yourself or for others who read it money is not the important part.

Anyway, you've got time to sort it out.

Well we don't know much about the central planets, but the border moons, where most of the action takes place, seem to have a pretty consistent climate. As such it doesn’t seem like there would be much need to scout out new locations.

Still, it is a fresh idea. Also sounds fun.
