Sorry to mention that "other" sci-fi film, but I'm a little curious about something - we all know about the people lining up outside theatres for weeks so they can be first in line to see the film. So my question is, what's wrong with pre-booking? Can't they do that? As my friend suggested, surely the theatres would want to take your money as soon as possible!

I heard about some of the Star Wars fans lining up outside of the Grauman Chinese Theater because that is where the other Star Wars movies have all premiered, even though the new movie isn't going to premiere there. Even fans who were really diappointed with the last two movies.

I know that there is also some kind of charity event involved with some of them. I'm not sure what all they are doing though.

A friend of mine said she'd read something about people being told they were queuing at the wrong theatre...!

Fair enough if there's some kind of charity event involved, I just don't get the need to live outside a theatre for 3 weeks or so if you can just pre-book your tickets (mine has been stuck to my notice-board for the last month and I still get to sleep in my own bed).

Don't they have jobs to go too!

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Living on the sidewalk outside a theater is probably a step up from their parent's basement I would think.

I take it most of them want the "PRIMO" seats. Has nothing to do with actually getting tickets. For Episode 2, here in DC people lined up weeks in advance at the Uptown theater. A local station interviewed some of them and nearly 60% of them bought their tickets already on movietickets.com but where sitting there merely for the chance at getting the best seat.....

I went to the 3rd showing and got a great seat without waiting in line for weeks there. Got the front row of the balcony by only arriving 35 min prior to its start. It didnt even fully sell out! lol

So you're not actually allocated a specific seat when you book? I suppose that maybe makes a little more sense...

No, actually now I come to think about it, it doesn't! Mind you, I've always been somewhat quirky when it comes to choosing my seat at the cinema - I'm the one sat at the back of the theatre, to the left or right of the screen, far away from the masses huddling together in the middle! It's like having your own private screening...

MANWITHPEZ

Important people don't do field work.

This reminds me of a joke...

A Browncoat is jumping up and down on a manhole cover and saying "23...23...23..."

A Star Wars fan comes up and says "What are you doing?"

The Browncoat says"...23...I can't tell you,...23...but its fun...23..."

Star Wars fan says "Let me try it then..."

Browncoat"23....okay, but just for a second...23..." and hops off.

The Star Wars fan starts jumping "23....23...This is stupid, I don't underst...."

The Browncoat jerks the manhole cover out from under the Star Wars fan as he plummets to his doom. The Browncoat gets back on the reseated manhole cover"...24....24....24"

But, I kid. I'm not a full blown Star Wars fan, but I do enjoy the movies. And, The Clone Wars was the HEAT! Makes me wish we could get "Firefly: The Animated Series"

Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

I've always preferred the seat with as much elbow room as possible, which is why I almost never see a movie on opening weekend. Serenity presents something of a challenge in that regard. I certainly won't be queueing up in advance. I'm particularly bad at that.

I'm going to see the "other" movie the Monday after it opens - figure I can last those extra few days and it should be considerably quieter than the Thursday/Friday before.

I'd rather wait a couple of days and see the film in relative peace and quiet, rather than be squashed into a packed theatre.

Unlike in parts of Europe, most if not all US theaters are first come first serve. Usually the back rows go first. Some people are like you and those preferred seats are always gone.

I have always take the seats that are directly behind the space for handicaps. This usually means extra leg room if no one is using the space with their wheelchairs. :)

Hee hee, I am afraid I am a scifi whore. Started out with Star Wars and so it has a special place in my heart. I'll be going opening night , I'm one of those people that plans to be hollering and clapping.

=gleefully awaits the rise of the Empire=

So what are people planning to do for the opening of Serenity ? I know my bf already put in his request for me to dress as Inara (even though I don't look a thing like her).

"Oh My God It's Grotesque! Oh And There's Something In A Jar."
