Lookin' through some quotes for a t-shirt or two, I read one that I just realized seems to apply to the events of the universe and it's fans.

Mal: Just focus! The Alliance said they were gonna waltz through Serenity Valley and we choked 'em with those words. We've done the impossible and that makes us mighty. Just a little while longer, our angels are gonna be soaring overhead raining fire on those arrogant cod, so you hold! You hold! Go!

The Alliance/Those Arrogant Cod = FOX
Our Angels = Universal
You hold! = The fans just needed to hold onto hope and keep on trying. We did, and look where we are now. ^_^

Maybe it's a bit out of it, but I found myself amused. Anyone else find ways to connect quotes from our beloved show to the fans?

"Bwaa...it's kind of a warrior...strikes fear into the hearts of..."

Just so you know, there was a message from Joss before the advance screenings of Serenity on May 5th. He used the line "We've done the impossible and that makes us mighty." to describe the fanbase. Lots of people in the theater finished the quote with him and there was much smiling. It was really a very touching message from Joss and I would love to have a copy of it. I mean the guy is just such an incredible person. Three cheers for Joss. Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray! Hip hip HOORAY!

Alright I'm done now.

There's a line in the movie which refers to browncoats in some way, too. I can't remember exactly what is said, though, but I seem to remember thinking it sounded like a bit of a shout out to certain people online.

There's actually a direct shout out in one of the Firefly episodes from Tim Minear to certain people on a posting board (not this one). They know who they are and what is said.

Also, check out this screen grab from Tim Minear's new series, The Inside, which starts on Fox in a few weeks;

There's also a direct shout out to Angel fans in the pilot, too.

I hope they put that message as an extra/easter egg on the DVD. I'd love to see it. Or they could show it at Dragon*Con.
As a side note: I had a hard time understanding the last bit of the quote you used the first couple of times I watched, and turned on the subtitles. I think he says "those arrogant khans."
Might check before printing shirts. Not sure.

I just nabbed it straight off the website I was looking at. ^_^ Not sure what it is exactly. Either way it more or less works I guess...though cods makes me giggle.

The one that always stuck with me, and sort of summed up the plight of browncoats over the last few years, was the exchange at the end of Serenity(the pilot)...

Mal: "We're still flying."

Simon: "That's not much."

Mal: "It's enough."

Yeah I found the shooting script [ http://average-bear.com/firefly/100.html] and it had the deleted scene not the DVD scene. The [trans] script for what actually made it to DVD [
http://firefly.shriftweb.org/scripts/111.shtml] and it says "cods". Fearful that I'd gone completely mad, I put in the DVD, turned on subtitles and get: "Khangs". *shrugs* I don't have a site of my own to upload to that would allow me to post the picture in the thread. but I can put the screen cap with subtitles in the Blue Sun Room. Feel free to delete it.
I'm not arguing it either way. It's just odd. Sorry for the tangent, as for quotes that apply to this fan, apparently: "Sir, I think you have a problem with your brain being missing."

For one thing guys, keep in mind that the subtitling on the DVD is F*x-ing awful.... I believe it was TCM who's tag-quote at one point was something like ""You're a rabbit Mal"-Gorram-it made into something silly complements of the Fox subtitle people"". Also the famous Yo-Saf-Bridge line being in the subtitles as "Speaking Chinese"... Dont trust the subtitles. if you trust anything, trust the scripts. Plus, i always thought it was cods.

Thing number 2.... sergeantX, i completely agree.... the last line in the pilot... i love it, every time i see it.

"
We're still flyin'...

That's not much...

It's enough.
"

That to me is Firefly in a nutshell... we may not have much, but it's ours. And it's enough to live on. That's all we need. Also seems to describe fans....

We are still flyin'. It may not be much. But it's enough to just have Firefly, and to have hope of it's rebirth.

P.S. I'd love a "Some people juggle geese!" shirt!

"Some people juggle geese!" -Ancient Chinese proverb.

True, the subtitling does bite. I'd like the "[Speaking Chinese]" shirt.
Sleep dep kicking in,

I know it was arrogant and stupid, but I liked the delusion that I was the first to come up with that.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Jayne has a line in the BDM that used the word cod as well, and in both instances I believe Joss uses it as an abbreviation of the word codpiece. In other words, Mal was politely calling the Alliance "dicks."
