Mayhap your right there, but i have to say looking at the R1 cover again - i really don't like it. As you say "in ur face" , and in ur face fans! What's with the gratutious massive river boobs and general business - not a fan of that at all, think it looks a bit rubbish, like someone had a crazy old time on Adobe Photoshop cutting and merging images willy-nilly.

At the end of the day i'm still gonna buy it, but will it attract non-FF/Serenity purchasers? Glad they got a review quote on there - that should help.

But hey - what do i know!

My fellow optimists, rejoice, and don't let the pessimists get yas down!

When I looked at the site I read the messages posted below it too. Did you see the second one down?

It said "I am sorry to say I've never watched the show or caught the movie - in spite of being a huge Joss Whedon fan (Buffy is one of my all time favorite shows) so I'll be checking this out, along with the series!"

It's great that this Buffy fan is finally going to check out the dvd but it makes you wonder how they were missed out in the marketing in the first place.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Hmmm.....

Not a bad DVD cover, but is it just me or is it a bit much? I understand why they did it, they are trying to sell it as an action movie, hence tagline on the cover "Experience the ultimate action adventure", but it just seems a bit much to me.

Don't get me wrong, I love the fact we are getting the DVD so soon, but I think it may push the "action" portion a bit too much. Of course if it gets people to watch, all the better.

What the heck kind of gun is Mal holding on the cover? It sure isn't his pistol nor do I remember him using one that looks like it. The slide & ejection port look like a modified 1911 Colt .45.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm loving that cover art. I'd like to think that all those people shaking their fists in the background are us Browncoats.

Aw, Hell. I know they are.

Actually, now that I think about it, shouldn't Serenity itself be featured more prominently on the cover? I mean, it IS the ship of the BDM's namesake.

Just a thought.

Hopefully the real "street" price will be like normal DVDs ($15-$18). As much as I love Firefly, I might not even buy a first release DVD of Serenity at $30!

The material on R1 sounds good so I'm looking forward to it. But I do hope they make an "extended / alternate" version of Serenity. There are a lot of us that were disappointed with the version that was released in the theaters.

I think they should add before the movie Joss' story - like in the special screenings. Kinda-of like Pixar does with their releases of those Japanese movies.

Woo Hoo!!! Just went to Amazon and pre-ordered 5. That's some of my Christmas shopping taken care of (even though I won't have them in hand before Christmas...I picked the "ship 'em cheap" option)!

OH MY GOD!!

What did I tell you about Universal?

That artwork is so cheeeeeeeeesssssyyyy!!

And the tag line denotes that before Joss
ever signed the contract to do this movie
there was a clear understanding that the
drama integrity contained in FIREFLY was
DOA!!!

"River" has been digitised to look more like
Angelina Jolie than Summer!

Nope, just give him something to complain about, and he's happy.

What happened to "We'll Have a Fruity Oaty Good Time?" I don't see it on the menu with the other special features. Easter egg, maybe?

why are people complaining about the fact that a special edition might be released in the future? buy it on Dec. 20th, buy the new edition when it comes out and you'll have a copy to pass around!

This is just the Region 1 release. No date has currently been set for the Region 2 release. Since Universal have now announced the Region 1 release I doubt we're getting it here in Region2land before Xmas or they'd have announced it for us too :(

If you preorder on Amazon.com it's only $20.99 and if you are a prime member shipping is free!

Do we know how many pre-orders there are?

If it's anything like the Firefly DVD maybe we'll see a sequel? ::crosses fingers::

No need to worry guys!! Amazon always does that to show how much the customer is suposedly saving. It will sell for around $15 the first week of its release at stores such as circuit city, best buy, walmart, and etc. Then, it will go up tp around $20 after that.

I think Serenity will do very well on DVD. So many fans will buy it for their loved ones as well as copies for themselves.

SHEPARD

We should all rejoice that there will likely be multiple versions of the DVD sold in the future. Think about it: if we're willing to demonstrate that we'll spend money to support the francise, there will be more support among the media moguls to make more movies or even bring back the series. (Read my post under "$2.00s could have saved Firefly"). Star Trek limped along for several years because the fans watched the cartoon version, ate up the reruns, and bought the books. And then BOOM! Movies, multiple t.v. series, video games, mass market galore! But none of that would have been possible if Trekkies had just folded & said "Well it was a good show...oh, look at the kitty!" We may only be keeping the dream alive for another generation, but I remember going to see the first Trek movie with my dad & him blathering on about this great t.v. show he used to watch. Since my kids are already dedicated Browncoats, I aim to bug my grandkids with my Reminisces!

Money talks; make them listen!

Everybody needs to chill out about the DVD price. $29.99 is the MSRP for basically every DVD movie, but almost every retailer sells it for much less. You'd be hard-pressed to find it at that price anywhere.

Oh, and it's a good idea to preorder from Walmart. My fiance preordered Star Wars Episode III from them and we received it a day early. :)

My wife bought SW III yesterday and we sat down to watch it last night. Realized what a piece of le-se it was, took out the dvd & started watching Firefly. (As a side note, how could the Jedi NOT realize Anakin was sliding to the Dark Side? How many other Jedi wore black leather?)

Thought the same thing too. I was dragged to Serenity-loved it and watched all of Firefly a few weeks ago. Walmart with it's big smiley face sure fits. It would make a good plot line for the second movie.

LOL! Yeah, my first thought too!

The way-cool Aussie poster is high up on my list of reasons why Australia rocks.

I figure when we get our sequel (which we will get!), Universal'll have had a few years of earnings, and have learned somethin'.

Recently, while checking boxofficemojo, I noticed a link to Serenity's status as #29 for "Action Heroine", clicked on it, and was elated to see that Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon's "wide" opening weekend earned "only" $8,647,295, compared to its final gross of $128,078,872. That might be a good model to cheer folks up! http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=crouchingtigerhiddendragon.htm

Here's a list of "Slowest to $100 and $200 Million":
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/slowest.htm?page=100&p=.htm

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sold 2.5 mil copies in US according to box office mojo.

A bunch of people made the point before, but it's an important one. $30 is how much it'll cost at places like Borders and Sam Goody. If you go to Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy, or even more localized places with good prices (in Wisconsin, The Exclusive Company), you should be able to get it for at least $10 less.

We shall rule over this land, and we shall call it... This Land.
