BULLET1510

1. All the features of the current US release.

2. The additional extras from the Australian 2 disc set.

3. The extras from the Serenity-centric disc that came with the Aussie Empire magazine (the trailers, production stills, the Starfury convention documentary).

4. More audio commentaries including:

-- one with Joss and Nathan (love to hear them riffing on life, the universe and everything),

-- one with Nathan and Chiwetel discussing their characters motivations and interactions especially the fights, also it would be interesting to hear their different perspectives on working with Joss and being part of the whole FF ‘verse. What with Chiwetel being the new kid on the block vs Nathan's deep kinship with Joss and FF,

-- one with the whole cast - it would just be blast :)

5. A documentary on the Browncoat phenomenon and the deep connection that there seems to be between Joss, the FF cast and the fans and how this affected (or caused) Universal to stump up the cash, (similar to the Bruce Campbell/Don Coscarelli one for Bubba Ho Tep). There must be miles of footage taken from the various Firefly fan conventions, those Serenity previews, and post-Serenity gatherings that could be incorporated.

6. A documentary on the critics and fan reaction to the film – and the fact that it so successfully served two masters. What a tightrope walk it must have been for Joss to write then shoot a film which didn't turnoff the existing ‘rabid’ (in a good way) fanbase but was also so accessible to new non-Firefly viewers.

7. A detailed documentary on production design, costuming sound and lighting beyond the 'Jack Green' feature on the Aussie disc (Although I must say, Nathan giving Mr Green his sage advice on the tricks of the trade was hi-larious).

8. Anything else Serenity related that Universal, Joss or anyone has lying around...

9. All this in a shiny tin please.

thanks

Oh, and by the way Buddha - I would also like some nekkid pictures of Nathan...

Dear Buddha,

In addition to my initial (rather long) list of DVD extras I would like to add the following:

-- A panel discussion with Joss, cast members and sundry ‘experts’ on the use of ‘language’ in the FF ‘verse and other literature – I know that Joss loves language and it’s rhythms (he really perked up when that topic was introduced in the Q&A (as seen on the Aussie 2 disc set).

-- Another discussion on how Joss’ ‘US/China Alliance/Independents future’ stacks up against other filmmaker’s visions of our future. Ridley Scott’s ‘Blade Runner’, (I know that Blade Runner was based on the Philip K Dick story but…), and Andrew Niccol’s ‘Gattaca’ come to mind. But I’m sure there are many other films for which would be interesting to compare and contrast to the FF ‘verse and ideology, especially the way human interaction and morals have changed, or haven’t ;)

Wash: Yeah, but psychic? That sounds like science fiction.

Plus, y'know, webcomics.

(C'mon, you know Buddha reads Real Life. And probably Shortpacked.)

I want what everyone else is having. But especially the full-cast commentary. Or even just the full-cast commentary. Heck, ignore the movie and just put the full cast together in a room with a camera. Or even a tape-recorder. . .

I know that there are different types of widescreen and different types of tv screen, but doesn't the standard widescreen only take up half of the standard TV screen?

Couldn't we put them in a room with a camera (filming in widescreen) placed on top of a tv that was playing the movie and then watch them watching and commenting on the movie right above or below the movie itself.

I mean who wants to stick with simple audio commentary when the ability exists for so much more?

Dear Buddha,

How about we sum all this up with a nice Firefly/Serenity channel which plays all this wonderfulness 24/7, including all the NEW episodes from seasons 2-15 and the classic film that capped it all off: "Senility."

And a little more lunch, I'm still hungry.

Let's not forget any extra outtakes (from both Firefly and Serenity), too. Also, I'd like to exchange the dates with Morena and Nathan for one with Summer, please.

Good idea. A widescreen image (in 2:35:1 like Serenity) takes up a bit more than half the screen, but that's do-able. I have a DVD of Kurosawa's RAN, in which the widescreen image is pushed to the top, leaving the lower part of the screen empty for subtitles. Might as well throw an on-screen commentary on there.

The original Mallrats special edition (NOT the new 10th aniversary version) had an option to open a sub-window that showed all the cast/crew as they recorded their commentary.

As an alternative, the Highlander: The Series DVD's have commentaries on select episodes, and as a bonus, you can watch the actor/crew member record the commentary, though it's only a "Highlight reel" of sorts, and only runs about half as long as the full episode with commentary.

The problem with any of these plans is that it would take up a sizeable chunck of space on the disk, which could potentially lower the image/sound quality of the film itself, or preclude the inclusion of other commentaries (Joss' original for instance).

Aw, forget the dates with Morena, Summer or Nathan.

I want to spend some quality time with Wash's plastic dinosaurs.

Kidding, of course.

I'll take a date with Jewel, though
