Well, depends what you're in the mood for. If it's not Serenity, here are some suggestions

Comedy: The Big Lebowski, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Super Troopers, As Good as it Gets

Violent: Usual Suspects, Pulp Fiction, Godfather

Drama: Requiem for a Dream (can this really be watched more than once???), Pi, What Dreams May Come

Fun: Pirates of the Caribbean, The Matrix (first one, always a fun one), Indiana Jones (any of them)

Cant beat Robin Hood Men In Tights. Blinkin is so funny.

Grosse Pointe Blank - look no further for comedy, drama, soundtrack and violence. And poetry.

Amelie
Midnight Run
Aliens
Addams Family Values
The Blues Brothers
Bubba Ho-Tep
Clueless
Roxanne
Dog Soldiers
Gregory's Girl
The Iron Giant
Love Actually
Predator
Pride & Prejudice (Firth & Ehle)
Pulp Fiction
Freaky Friday (Curtis & Lohan)
My Cousin Vinny
Father Ted
The Wedding Singer
The Princess Bride
The Railway Children (Agutter & Thomsett)
Die Hard

There are plenty more that are good, but these strike me as pretty much perfect. Either sufficiently original or well acted / scripted or nicely constructed or all or none of the above. Not that it matters.

Tough selection, but no matter what my other personal favourites were, the list has to be suitable for a perfect stranger to be able to pick any one at random and enjoy it.

...'Course if you did find any of them duff, I'd have to find your soul black, barren and missing, but judging from the colour of your coat, I don't think it'll be a problem.

If you haven't seen Galaxy Quest, get that. It should be required viewing for all SF viewers.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Try to find "Waking Life" from 2001. It's directed by Richard Linklater, using a rotoscoping animation-over-live-action technique in a story about dream-states. He has been working on perfecting that technique for his latest, "A Scanner Darkly," which opens in limited release tomorrow (but not in my town, gorramit).

For movies not other wise listed:

Can't beat a Universal monster flick.
The Mummy
The Mummy Returns
Van Helsing

Muppet Treasure Island (Tim Curry as Long John Silver...need I say more?)

12 Angry Men (An awesome flick even 49 years later)
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Dead Again
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

Tomorrow, you let us know what you watched ans write a 2 page report on it. Don't forget to mention foreshadowing and symbolism.

Just kidding!

I love the Mummy, but Van Helsing? Me and my friends watched with the sound turned down and made up our own storylines and script as it went along, which was, actually so much better (super horny spary!- don't ask)We did it with the Matrix, and Pirates of the Carribbean too, and they were good that way.

I suggest:
Con Air - if you want violence
Dodgeball or BASKETball (like dodgeball, only dirtier) if you want mindless comedy
My Cousin Vinnie or Young Frankenstein if you want good comedy
1st Wives Club if you want femenist comedy (great for getting over boys)

Oh! I love Men in Tights!
Are you fagellers?
No, just merry.

Damn you Fox! Damn you to Hades!!

We watched Fever Pitch the other night, with Jimmy Fallon (not usually a fav of mine) and Drew Barrymore, and I have to say it was fun. Husband liked it a lot too even though I'd classify it as a romantic comedy.

Van Helsing was a fun monster flick. It didn't promise anything else and darn it, I had fun watching it. I mean its a Universal monters movie, of course there's gonna be corn.

Yeah, it's eminently MSTie-able, but a lot of fun things are. Even the BDM.

I was just giving a well rounded list.

Very much an MST3K fan, although I haven't bought the DVDs...'cause I taped 'em from TV and watch those.

Prefer Joel to Mike, though.
