She's barely recognizable!

I wouldn't say she's unrecognizable. She's still just as shiny lookin' as ever.

Is that her on the right, there? Wow, yeah, looks very different with her hair up all tight like that.
I could not stand to have something like that around my neck...

She looks so much better with her hair down. Not that she isn't beautiful there too. Just a little less than her standard beauty. I think the best is her final scene in Serenity. She looks so much more natural there.

Is that also Claudia Black from Farscape in the background? I knew that Ben Browder was in it but not her...if they are seriously combining three of my favorite people then I guess I'll just have to see it. (I've never been a Stargate fan...it's my least favorite sci-fi show...don't hurt me)

At the rate they're going...looks to be only a few seasons away. Now all we need is the entire cast of Firefly on the show as well, sneak Joss Whedon in to "guest direct" a few episodes, they find Serenity through one of the Stargates, and ummm, we're good!

I think they tried to make her look more like the character of Vala (Claudia Black) seen in the middle, who is her mother. She's kinda scary looking , but in a good way. I had thought that they would give her a more martial look given that she is portraying the leader of the conquering hordes, but I guess they went for the "fighting-is-beneath-her" look. Good look though, despite the fact that I wouldn't have recognized her.

Anyone notice how tall Morena looks in this picture? Given that Michael Shanks (Daniel on the left) is 6' tall and Morena is 5'-7" and even taking into account camera angle (they are on about the same parallel plane to the lense) those must be some shoes hiding under that beautiful dress!

Given a choice between the earth-that-is and the 'verse-that-will-be I'll take the latter.

I think it's because he's further back. You can't really judge depth in a photo, but he seems to be a couple of steps behind.

Stargate is really turning into a refugee camp for actors from cancelled shows, isn't it?

Don't feel bad, I've always hated that show (especially when good shows kept getting cancelled while that one not only stayed on, but was given a spin-off). Of course, having Ben, Claudia, and Morena on it might make me rethink things...

I worked on a film once where the leading lady was so ...uh... petite and the leading man (despite not looking tall) was 6' 1" and she was always standing on a small platform... It was hard not to look down when you were standing a little way off...

I've even heard of tall actors standing in a shallow trench (honestly!!)

Having watch a great deal of sci-fi I've noticed a lot of cross over by actors who come from other sci-fi shows. Sometimes it is hard to tell by the alien make-up plastered on them and then I see the features in their faces recognize them. I've seen this a lot on Stargate.

The VAST majority of characters on Stargate have been human. Most of our universe is populated by the descendents of people the Goauld stole from Earth.

There have been only a handful of non-human looking aliens: the Aasgard (computer generated, no actors there), the Unas, and the Nox. Atlantis has the Wraith.

I don't see this comment having any validity so please explain where you're coming from.

I understand your point. Actually most of the people I have seen on Stargate are very human. It was their other characters from previous sci-fi shows that had all the make-up. Sorry for the confusion. What Cybersnark said. Just noticed his post.

I don't means to sound like a tit, but, well, to me she looks pretty much like she did on firefly. (Though her dresses in firefly were always much more shiny and elegant.) I look forward to her having a lot of great sucess. :) She should do something before the next Firefly film.

I always knew Morena had a long beautiful neck (there must be a giraffe somewhere in her ancestry), but, that "brace" or whatever it is makes it look like she got her head stuck in a taffy puller.

Actually, I think the dress is somewhat similar to what she wore as Inara. However, the hairstyle and facial expression is so different that it could almost be someone else. She's got this sinister, blank look on her face, and her hair is up tight around her head, which can change how just about anyone looks.

Oh thank Goddess, God, Buddah, Great Spirt, Sun God Ra (er, bad example), and all other deitys. I've always felt SG1 wasn't realy Stargate because only 4 things are actually from the movie, and they're just props (the Gate, the gliders, the sarcophogas(sp) wich is no longer used, and the blast staffs). The show has veered so far from the source material I no longer consider it Stargate(IMHO). It'd be a releaf to see the REAL Stargate return.

For the record, most people know that the Series and the Movie aren't exactly contiguous. More people appreciate this. I am one of them. The Series is a much more interesting version of the idea which the Movie attempted to incarnate. I would be very irritated if we somehow decided to relapse into the suckage that was the movie. Oops. I've gone and gone evil on the movie. I loved the concept, hated the implementation, but adore that we got a series out of it. I don't know if anyone's seen my admission that at one point, I thought it was just a defunct episode.

Besides, we have all sorts of cool graphics. The Movie always reminded me a bit of Star Trek TOS style graphics. Which, speaking of, there'd been 28 years between the debut of Star Trek TOS when Stargate, the movie came out. Why don't the graphics look better?

My guess is that the neck collar was actually relatviely "soft" otherwise she'd have had a hard time speaking her lines. I hope it was held in place by spirit gum rather than some form of boning like corsets. It probably limits her left to right neck movement (more to keep the suppleness of the material from giving away the "restrictive nature" that is is supposed to represent) but otherwise it probably wasn't as bad as it looks. Morena deserves better than that! With a typical shooting day of 8-12 hours or longer the real thing would be seriously unhealthy and probably against SAG union rules .

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I wouldn't have thought that was Morena at all just glancing at the photo. The contacts really change her appearance, and the hair up is a new look for her. Definitely like it down better, but that's just my opinion.

It looks like that thing around her neck is stretching it. I'm sure it's just me, but it looks painful, and makes her neck look almost impossibly long.

Still, really looking forward to seeing Morena on SG-1. Anyone know what night her first appearance is scheduled for?

Definitely had to take an extra glance. Guess when you're so used to seeing a person in a certain way, it's so odd to see them in any other fashion.

She even surprised me when I see her with short hair at conventions and premieres.

A side note: Doesn't she kind of look like Famke Janssen in that picture?

Add on the rest of the crew of Serenity, and then maybe Mulder and Scully, and we're in business!

I've been recently into SG-1 and Atlantis, first to see Ben Browder and Claudia Black (Vala rocks), and then I thought Atlantis looked pretty cool. So I'm excited to see more of Morena, and see her interactions with Claudia.

...Look! Look!!! *points up* Creepy!!

I think that is the point. The almost vacant look to her eyes, the almost innocent look on her face. All of it lends to the character.

For those who don't follow SG1 Adria, the character Morena is playing, is the child of Vala (Claudia Black) who was impregnated by the Ori, an advanced race of ascended beings who feel the need for blind obedience from every human in the galaxy. The Ori wish to be worshipped as gods and those who don't follow them are seen as a threat and are destroyed.

Adria is the embodiment of the Ori and was born to act as a living prophet of the Ori to lead their armies in conquest of the galaxy and to spread the worship of the Ori. She matured rapidly after her birth and according to Vala reached full maturity in only a couple of days. She is supposed to be some sort of living repository of Ori knowledge and teachings. I don't know if I would call her evil, so much as a really misled zealot.

It will be interesting to see where they go with her character and how well Morena plays her.
