Yeah, I've listened to classic rock for most my life so I've always known it as "classic." I'm sure my time will come though when my "modern" music is considered old.

I've noticed a gap with my peers in actors too. Sometimes I'll mention a movie with Marlon Brando or Steve McQueen and they'll be like "who?" I think a lot of my generation will dismiss a movie automatically if it was made prior to the Reagan administration...or heaven forbid it's in black and white!

I am the same Tristan - I was listening to my favourite radio showthis morning and someone mentioned the Thompson Twins - and the younger dj said 'who the hell are the Thompson Twins?" which is sad because I a) loved the band and went to see them in concert in the 80s... and b) I loved the Tin Tin graphic books so I knew where it originated from...

I'm getting old... and I'm going to a special hell...

... and I feel your pain JPStar... I love U2 but I also remember when they first hit the airwaves... just like Madonna! (& I have her on vinyl too) I love the old movies - my Dad made sure I had a good, well rounded education in that respect... I really mourn the passing of those actors who will always be an amazing presence on film but who have gone from us now... Ahhhh... Explaining to my little sister that the band Green Day existed before the album American Idiot did it for me.

Also, massive sustainment of injuries. Everytime it's cold, or it's gonna rain, or sometimes just on a bad day, my joints crack and dislocate at random. I feel about 60 when that crap starts happening.

I know exactly what you are saying, but it tickles me to hear a 22 year old say, "I'm old." That's makes me feel really old.

I started to feel old when the rock groups of my youth were played as elevator music. Also when I found out that young children don't know what a record or album is. I don't think I'll list any more. It's starting to make me feel OLD.

TV-shows and movies make me feel old. I often say to myself things like; that movie was just realesed? Only to find out that it might be 6 or 7 years old by now. Also I remember when Thundercats, M.A.S.K and the original He-man was on the air.

Morning all imponderers!
The site crashed on me before I could say goodnight. I was sad.
Oddly, I had a "Wow, that was so long ago!" moment last night when I flipped on the TV and saw Agent Mulder. Gods, I loved that show in the way back when. I knew so much trivia I scared people. I could spot an episode within seconds, I knew the titles and writers and plots of the first four seasons like I knew mine own name. I was an obsessed X-phile of the highest order.
Then it 'self-destructed into utter nonsense' as one reviewer said, and I stopped watching. Somewhere in season six, I just got pissed off. I never saw how that damn series ended and I still don't want to that badly.
I didn't think it had been that long ago that I stopped watching, but I couldn't spot this episode right away. I couldn't remember what happened when I did place the title. And I realized I was in high school the last time I watched an episode of the X-files. Early high school. It was more than five years ago!
Who knows where the time goes?
The early episodes are still really good. I got so mad about it that I forgot why I loved it so much. Maybe I should watch those original Star Wars movies again.

I've scared myself now.

Positive things; In my lifetime, 'foreign' food has become more widely available outside the big cities. The Internet.

I got really depressed about my age a couple of years ago. For all non Brits I should explain that all students can get about 1/3 off railfare if they own a 'Young Person's Railcard'. I held on by the skin of my teeth but they stop giving you them after 25 (or 26 if you cheat!)

Emma: I've heard way too many stories like that, myself. More than I can count on both hands, which is waaaaay too many, although only one ended with a corpse. It's part of the reason I gave my advice. Don't put all your money on the miraculous change. The only change which can be virtually guaranteed is the downhill slide.
People need to want to improve, in order to achieve anything. This leach obviously, and blatantly, does not, which leads my back to the first line of advice I gave LA, being: Get out now.

I'll be 29 next February, and it scares me. It's waaay too close to 30. I thought I'd be a grown up by thirty! You know, have a house and a long term boyfriend/fiancee, an established career, that kind of thing. Unless I have a very busy year next year I think I'll be behind schedule!

So here's a question. What to you symbolizes moving on from a relationship that has ended?
For me, this last relationship it was my sheets. First, washing them for the first time after the breakup, then washing the other set for the first time since the breakup. Now, just today, I have bought NEW SHEETS. Brand new, never seen or touched or slept on by Ex of Doom, very pretty sheets! And they're oversized, so I have no problem making them stay on the bed. I am a happy bunny.
The next stage will be when I realize I've gone months without dreaming about him

That's not really a symbolic thing, though. Replacing my sheets is a big deal right now; getting him as out of my life as possible so I don't have all kinds of reminders to spark my grief.

I, being Wiccan, performed this big cleansing ritual on my bed and I put all of the stuff he gave me into The Box. I took a cue from BSG (2004) and my fav episode when they talk about 'boxing' the cylons. I got the inspiration when I realized we had broken up for the same reasons Sharon got shot. He looked just like the guy, but that didn't mean they were the same person.

I love the Castro, because if somebody grabs my ass, I know they're picking my pocket.

This is going to sound really silly after all your serious moving on rituals but... the girls and I always have a what-was-your-name-again party after we break up with someone. It's usually held between one week and one month after the break up (depending how grievey the person is feeling) and we basically go out, have a fun night and get the break-upee nice and drunk.

Which, now that I think of it, is kind of the Irish solution to everything.

I think I should explain in-depth why the fact that I've bought new sheets is so important to me in terms of moving on-ness.
Having done "He's out of my life" rituals and "You're better off without him" parties with the girls, I felt a little better, but I had not really moved on. I missed him, I missed him particularly when I was trying to get to sleep. I wanted, however tenuous, a link to him that might comfort me when I was asleep.
He's never slept on these sheets. They are free of conotations of him. And I feel good about it! In that way, it's different from the "trying to get over this" things I've done so far. It's symbolic of something that has actually shifted in my mind.

I don't know if there is any one specific thing that symbolizes the event of getting over an ex, but I can tell you that the adage of time heals all wounds is true. You will get over him, move on, and find love again. One important thing when entering into a new relationship is to remember to take care of #1 and pursue and achieve your individual goals.

I was at the Austin City Limits Festival last weekend. Three days of non-stop music. There was a Gibson guitar demo booth set up. I've been known to get a poster's gender wrong on many boards, so at this stage I tend to check! It's hard to tell a person's gender from their posting name, or even their posts! And the bios don't always say. I even got confused when I visited you on myspace because your photo was of you and your girlfriend, so that just confused the heck out of me.

It's a beautiful morning here in NYC ,cool & bright .I love when the leaves are just starting to change.

DTH, that drinking thing is also part of my solution...it's the Irish coming out!

Oct. 1st will be moving day for the soon-to-be-ex, which means she and all of her stuff will be out of the house. That night, my brother will be over, and he and I will probably tie one or two on. That next week will be the cathartic exercise; I will be rearranging the house to suit me...turn it into a nice-looking bachelor pad...changing the curtains, getting different furniture, etc. So, basically, my ritual is changing the space to fit me rather than "us".

Penguin, you are ageless. You are one of the fun people on this board that always have an emotie perfect for the situation. I hope I still feel as "young" as you in 12 years!

Morning All.

Good for you PR. Sometimes the smallest and silliest things are what remind you the most of some one that is gone from your life. When you can replace them it is a big step forward.

I relized that I was not young anymore when me and my friend from the old neighborhood were sitting at my house talking about his littlest step brother being 16 and he and his girlfriend had gotten pregnant. He was planning on dropping out of school and getting a job in a factory to support his new family. He figured that his dad did ok and and he never finished high school. So we were brainstorming on how to convince him that it was not a good idea and that he needed to stay in school.
I just got this blank look on my face and Chadwick (thats his name. Been friends since I was 12 and he was 10) asked what was up. I didn't know what to say. I just killed my beer and yelled out "when the

When I was a kid 40 was OLD and the people LOOKED old. My mom is 66 and she looks now to me how people looked then at 40.

84% Jayne here. Kinda threw me a little. I didn't think I was that crass and macho.

Although I do like his character and his growth through the BDS and BDM the best.

I am 76% Zoe. Or was it 78? Don't remember now. But I came up as Zoe. Thought I'd take it again and got 60% Inara. Odd, since I only relate to a few aspects of her; I could never be so bottled-up for one thing. I thought I'd get Kaylee or River before Inara. Who knew?
