Good morning everyone. I would just like to say that I love you all and that there are no shinier folk in the 'verse than Browncoats and Firefly fans. I say this after finally seeing Done The Impossible last night. I'm so glad to be a part of all that is. And it makes me even happier to have been along for part of the ride with all of you.

I never got a chance to respond to alot lately due to strange work schedules and a wierd brain/heart pattern. Okay, that just sounds like a bullshit excuse to me.

Back on track, I really gotta make it to D*C. There's no if's, and's, or but's about it. What would make me really happy is to be able to drive cross country and meet, possibly even pickup a few folks lookin' to save airfare and see the country. I figure my total trip will be about eight days, but I do need particulars. Seems I'll be on the side finding dates and times.

I'm completely serious. Anyone between Reno and Atlanta interested. I don't mind sidetracking a few hundred miles if need be.

Like I said, for anyone interested. I'd be more than willing to meet up with ya brotha man. I'd plan the whole trip around it.

Ya see DTH, anyone who could be flyin' in might be able to get a better rate in a different city. Might work out for someone to fly into Vegas for a couple a hundred bucks less than flyin' all the way to Atlanta. Besides, someone from outside the US would get the chance to see the US up close and personal.
Now if there were only a way to drive a van across oceans.

Just checked the flights available and the cheapest round trip is $725. Of course, they strap you to the outside of a plane, but how bad could that be for 13 hours for such a grand cause?

Okay, I'm puttin' the four grand + that I loaned out last year to work. At least a grand is going toward the paintball kit. That is a neccessity for my health and well being. I figure fiteen hundred is committed to the trip. Sure sounds like alot until you factor in rental car, food (I'm a fat kid. Surprized it ain't number one on the list), lodging, gas, and of course souveniers. If I get no takers for the trip I'll just grab a Taurus or comperable midsize. If I get two or more, we're goin' minivan or SUV. I'd hate to drive one across country seein' as I've driven one at work for the lat seven years, but a fifteen passenger van leave alot of space for neccessities.

Any mathmatical confuzery that had to do with anything other than simple money, time, and measurement. Math has always been abstract to a point that I never really had a grasp on much, if any of it. For me, history wasn't too hard. I was just lazy and hated writting about history, which for me, was like re-writting history. Being from a people who've historically been on the losing side of most everything in the last few centuries seems to keep me from dictating history. I still love the hell out of it though. As for subject favorites? I loved creative writting class. My favorite teacher must have really wanted to teach it to us and also must have recognized the amount of energy (whether it be ADD or teen angst) in our classes. She always had something new to teach or a new way of thinking, or even an old one we'd overlooked. Not to mention I had a slight crush on her, but I think it was more the determination and creativity she embodied.

Must be getting late in the day. Already rambling.

Oh I like history, but, as you say, it is a question of making myself do it. For e.g. I do not find war and peace, and the British Foreign Secretaries between 1792 and 1841 particularly interesting, but friday afternoon sees me writing a 45minute essay on something to do with that.

In England we don't have anything like Creative Writing class. Just 'English' class, although when you're older you get an option on either English Language, English Literature, both, or neither.

I admit the American schooling system confuses me. I can never work out how old you are when your in the first grade etc.
Mind you, in our schools if you're in Year 7 you are 11 years old.

Which makes no sense.

Heh. Nope. But there was a really cute firefighter/paramedic (not an ambulance guy) who rode to the hospital with me, keeping traction on my arm, just 'cause I said it made my arm feel better. He stayed in the ER for a bit, but left, I think, before the evil nurses tried to destroy my pants. At least that's how I remember the events of the night. Actually, I told him he could go, that I could be a big girl and grimace through the pain.

In response to not understanding the American system:

First graders are typically 6 years old. Basically, we start with kindergarden at five, then start counting with numbers after that, meaning that in 12th grade (also called senior year) most students are 18.

My worst subject in school has always been math. Not because I can't understand it, but because it is so tedious. There's a formula and you follow it. There is no creative thought involved, no room for interpretation, it just is. So I get bored and can't deal with it well.

Give me something that requires thought and true understanding....like Biology or Literature.

My worst subject is always Spanish. Now keep in mind that I am a very good student, and I do well in school, but if you wanna see me feeing stupid and angry try and make me learn a foreign language. I mean really the amount of verb forms alone is enough to drive you crazy! I always find myself wishing that I didn't need to learn that language...

My favorite subject is probably English, for the simple reason that I love reading.

Kindergarden: five
1st grade:six to seven
12 grade (senior in High School):17 to 18

As for the writting classes...
The creative writting classes offered in High School (at least when I was there) were an off chute of English class. It was counted as an elective rather than an actual English class, but learned more about grammar and punctuation there than in an actual English class. The amount of information I have forgotten (or has been washed away by stress and/or alcohol) is immense.

JAMESTHEDARK

Pretty much every subject I took in high school was either boring or infuriating. Some, like Bio and Chem fell into the former, whilst the Maths fell squarely into the latter.
The sole exception to that was English Writing; it was partially because I am pretty much a natural born writer, and partially because the teacher at the time was a crazy old dude who really should have been a university Proffessor, who took his job waaaaay too seriously. I have to say, pretty much everything I learned about writing, I learned from him.
Since I started Uni, my current favorite are the Philosophy courses. What can I say? I love to get into a good arguement.

Aaaaaand, now I go away.

Year 7 = about 11
Year 12 = 17/18
Year 13 is 19. Year 12 and 13 are also The Sixth Form (*shrugs*) no idea why.

We have compulsory schooling until the age of 16. When you are 15 you start your GCSEs when you get a bit of choice in what subjects you do, besides the three sciences, English, maths and DT (Design and Textiles, is basically woodwork or sewing or cooking etc) as well as a modern foreign language (either French or German, you don't get to pick).

For GCSEs you pick three extra subjects on top of that, like Spanish, Art, History, Media Studies, Business Studies. My school also does Latin and Classics, which not many others do.

After your GCSEs you get to either leave or go on to further education, eg the Sixth form. In the Sixth you choose up to five subjects from any the school do (ie that you could and did do at GCSE) and some others. After a year you take more exams, which gives you an AS level in those subjects. If you study for a second year you get a full A level.

It is a very exam/results based system, so we basically get taught how to pass the papers we will be set.

All too confusing for me. I'm sure when you have to live with it for so many years it becomes a bit easier.

For those who've posted here for a while, you might know that I never garaduted High School. I have no formal education past the tenth grade. I do have eighteen of the twenty four credits required by the state of Nevada to get my high school diploma. Here is my plan for the next six months. First, I'm studying for the GED exam. Alot of people say to just go for the diploma, but it is actually much quicker this way. With passing the GED exam I get a small booster of credits toward my actual high school diploma. Through adult education in Churchill County I can have my high school diploma by the end of summer. Honestly, I don't see the point of all this work. There seems to be no real need or want to continue my education. I have no intrest in much of anything cerebral. One thing that disappointed me greatly with school was the lack of origional thought. I saw folks quoting Niche and Plato who many times lacked the life experience to truly grasp the concepts they were quoting. So many of those people had stuff memorized that a little time and logic could easily figure with ease. I hate the thought of not being able to claim a thought as my own. There's always gonna be some smart ass who'll discount my observations and call me a plagiarist. I report what I see, whether or not I believe it, and how it relates to others. I am not overly read. I don't seek the observations of others. Once I've figured something out for myself, then I'll seek other perspective.
Not to ramble on much more, but I think more people should seek the knowledge ans wisdom they already possess. I feel there isn't much of a field of study I can persue that has to do with what I already do.
Ramble over. Gotta think about what I wanna do when I grow up.
