Perhaps there should be some sort of identifying gesture we as Browncoats could do to...identify one another. Obviously, not everyone wearing a brown coat is a Browncoat, but if we see someone with one, perhaps we could make a discreet sign with our fingers, or something, and if they respond in kind, then we know we have found another fan.

Thoughts?

This probably doesn't count but on nights out with some of my friends a group of us just burst out into the ballad of serenity, Browncoats within a good radius would hear us, not that where i'm from is brimming with browncoats - yet.

I played with the plastic dinosaurs at a local toy shop. Did the whole bit, "Ha ha ha! Mine is an evil laugh!" and everything.

Security told me to leave and not come back.

I like that idea, jmbrock.
How about if we had an special piece of jewellery, as in a ring, bracelet or earring or necklace that identifies us...?

Definitly a necklace more noticeable, what about a dogtag for men and necklace for women

EDIT: I agree on the dogtags being a good choice. Plus it's something men and women can wear.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I find that adding a patch to one's browncoat can work. Well, if anyone around you is actually a Browncoat, anyway. Had one guy recognize the 'Serenity' patch on my coat, and he was unfortunately insane, but hey...
Saying 'shiny' and 'gorrammit' also tend to work, though mostly I've just ended up confusing people. I don't caaaaaare though because those expressions have seeped into my braaaaaiiiiin!

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

I'm gonna have to disagree on the dogtags. They're cool and all, but I tend to keep my jewelry tucked in my shirt, so you wouldn't be able to see it. Besides, using Firefly quotes and sayings tends to do the trick.

*Edit* And three hours later, I realize I misspelled half of those words. Darn Benadryl.

May you have enough.

We are not a gang as we are a contingent of intelligent human beings who enjoy a television show that was cancelled before its time. We are well organized and global. On top of that, our numbers are a great many spanning all ages, races and colors. We hold events for charity as well as to acquire new members. We never say die. We never give up and we never say never.

We are trekkies…

…I mean browncoats

Oh and we all hate F*x

It hasn't actually unearthed any Browncoats. Yet.

I've got a nice looking brown coat and anytime someone comments on it I reply with "it was on sale". Always gets me a strange look. The funny part is that it really was on sale.

Only some do this. And of those that do, for the vast majority it's not all the time nor is it even most of the time.

There are Dog Tags available, made by a fan. One is a Mal I believe, and a few other BDH's, and Serenity. Look around and you might find who sells them.

You want a secret signal, there's always placing your hand on your waist like your going to draw a gun. That would construed a gang like attitude.

DISSONANCE

Humming or belting out the theme song seems to work really well. For Browncoats, not the people standing in the cross fire.

Example - This guy walked past me one day, and I caught a bar or two of the song. Ran after him, nearly bowled over a poor bystander, and asked him if 'he was one of them Independents'. Turns out he gets quite a few Browncoats coming up to him just through that.

Jetflair makes all types of cool Firefly/Serenity based jewelry at her website www.serenityverse.com./shop/ They are reasonable and are very nice looking.

Unfortunately she discontinued the dog tags due to possible copyright problems.

I have several of her pieces. A Serenity kanji that I wear on a silver chain, a Zoe necklace that is part of a costume in progress and I have a Serenity kanji dogtag (made before the problems) that is on my keychain. There are other things I really want and may get later.

BTW a waitress at a local Chinese restaurant saw my Serenity kanji necklace a few weeks ago. She commented on it and said that it was correct. The restaurants name is ironically "Dragonfly" but their logo looks a lot like a firefly.

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Well, I wear a brown wrist band that says "Browncoat" on it as well as wear my 76th dog tags. About 75% of the time I am out of the house I am also wearing a Firefly or Serenity themed t-shirt.
