Which episode what is said in? A lot of people use it but I can't remember hearing it said in an episode.

Mal's on the ground, about to get speared by Crow. A shot rings out. Crow is kneecapped.

Mal: Nice shot.

Jayne: I was aiming for his head.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Kaylee's full name is Kaywinnit Lee Frye, and I believe the only time it is mentioned is in "Shindig" as she and "escort" are introduced at the fancy ball.

Nah no you're not but I have a feeling that Kaylee becoming Mrs. Tam is about as likely as me becoming the King of Londinium.

Browncoats:

I personally think it may take some time, but I see Simon eventually becoming a country doctor, and marrying Kaylee. He may run back to the Core worlds for a time, but in a reversal of the old saying, "Once they've seen Hollywood, how're you gonna keep 'em on the farm", he'll go back to the Rim where people really need him. ...And where Kaylee is.

Gunhand: You remember Archy 'Moonlight' Graham from "Field of Dreams"? He gives up a return to his youth and an eternity of baseball with his heroes. Why? Because Ray's daughter Karin is choking to death and a doctor is needed; Archy answers the call. He's a country doctor who gave up his baseball dreams years ago, for the reality of helping others and the love of a singular woman.

That subplot was pure movie magic (and more than just vaguely reminiscent of the personal sacrifices made by George Bailey in "It's A Wonderful Life") and my favorite aspect of "Field", one of my all-time favorite movies. Cynics may say those depictions of self-sacrifice are schlocky or unrealistic. I respectfully disagree. Many people sacrifice their personal goals for loved ones, for the good of their community or country, or for otherwise altruistic reasons. I believe the reason movie makers return to that theme time and again is because it's not only a stirring portrayal of Humanity's capacity for nobility, but because it's true.

I believe Simon, however inept he may be socially, is a true believer. I think he's a doctor, not just someone who made a career choice that would maximize his earning potential. The clues are there in the series. I believe he would sooner or later come to the conclusion that his talents -- and his spirit -- were wasted in the Core.

Kaylee might not make a proper megalopolitan physician's wife, but she'd make a right fine country sawbones' missus. I think the allure of making a difference and his (eventually realized) love for Kaylee would see him settled on a Border world -- like Jiangyin, among the hillfolk who abducted him, perhaps?

Simon once said (in so many words) that Kaylee was 'practically the only girl in the universe.' For him, ultimately, she is actually the only girl in the universe.

I always pictured that Simon would think that the Core was where he wanted to return to and would eventually leave there... but would realize his mistake and return to Kaylee (but then again, and i do believe i've previously mentioned this...i'm a dork)

I LOVE Field of Dreams! Beautiful movie. the book it was roughly (Shoeless Joe by Kinsella) based on is beautiful too. good examples!

Yeah Mom, Londinium...at least I'm 99% sure that's where Mal said he wanted to be the king of, in a very sarcastic way. I kinda go hand in hand with very sarcastic.

Howdyrockerbaby, you aren't a dork. I just can't for the life of me see Simon and Kaylee getting together in a lasting way. I mean this is Joss here, after maybe half a season of happiness he's either gonna screw up, get killed, arrested, or go gay. I mean it'd be nice, but happy endings aren't a Joss feature, in fact the only couple I can see having one is Wash and Zoe and even then there are many rocks and shoals.

But that's just my opinion, and I'm not right in the head, so take it as you will.

The way it works in TV land is that once the chase is over, the ratings drop. Anyone remember "Moonlighting?" So, maybe it would be a good thing for Kaylee and Simon to circle around each other, but never meet.

Moonlighting is one of the classic examples of this, most definately! Cheers had the same problem, going so far as to have to get rid of Diane and bring in...ummm whatever Kirstie Alley's character's name.

Oh well Bruce Willis had to go on to greater things anyhow.

Yes I am indeed talking about Hudson Hawk which is one of my favorite movies of all time...

...This is the one time I'm not being sarcastic too! Love that movie.

EDIT: Yes I am, well not sick in the head, but definately not right in the head.

Elwoodmom:

Problem 1: We don't appear to be heading back to TV soon, or (ulp!) ever.

Problem 2: Rachel and Ross 'circled' each other so long, by the time they're reunited in the final episode, nobody cared anymore.

In a trilogy, you could play out the 'girl digs boy; boy is too inept to get girl, even though she's fairly round-heeled; girl gets boy; boy runs home to Core; boy realizes he loves girl; boy returns and (maybe with difficulty/twists) wins girl forever' plotline over three movies. Hell, I could write it, and I'm not a writer.

EDIT: Simon's winning line: "Do ya' wanna?"
Kaylee's response: "What took you so long?"

I'd agree if we weren't talking about Joss here. He's apt to take that as a challenge.

Heck, we already have Wash and Zoe. Nothing boring about them.

Also, let's twist this around a bit: you're all talking about Simon either going back to the Core or setting up on the frontier where he can make a difference, but what about Kaylee?

What if some Core-world tech shop caught wind of Kaylee's genius and offered her obscene sums of money to work there?

And who said anything about her "settling down" to be with Simon? D'you really think Kaylee would have a happy life if you took her off Serenity and put her in some small-town somewhere?

Keep in mind, you're talking about shows that have a main male and main female character, who are the focus of the show.

Firefly has a huge cast, with no one person really being the most important--people didn't watch the show simply to see the Simon and Kaylee interaction, it was EVERYTHING about the show that brought us to it Friday nights.

So, I doubt that it would suffer if they got together. Mal and Inara, however, might be a little more of a risk... but I doubt Joss would handle ANYTHING a la "Moonlighting" and its ilk.

And, Gunny is most DEFINITELY sick in the head, but he's OUR KIND of sick in the head, which is why we love him so dearly... that and the plastic dinosuar rai... um... requisitions...

You got a point. I don't think Kaylee would want to "settle down" back on a world after she's been flying with Serenity for a while. She seems to be one of the few on the ship who are really excited by just the experience of roaming around the 'verse. Even though I'm sure she'd want to be with Simon, I don't think she'd want to leave that lifestyle, at least not soon.

I could see her & Simon being married and living on Serenity or a ship of their own. Maybe they have a team of medics & mechanics, roaming around to whatever border world needed the assistance. They can get back to the good ol practice of making house calls

Another good point! For some reason, I'm reading a heck of alot more about those two getting together, and not much about the Mal/Inara relationship. Perhaps the possibility of them getting together is nil, but Kaylee and Simon...well everyone wishes they'd DO SOMETHING.

I don't think he's gay, I think he's just really uptight, really nervous, etc. Plus, it's very common that extremely intelligent people, like genius level and up, have a LOT of trouble relating to people on a personal level. They tend to be loners, and fumble their thoughts when speaking directly to someone about something other than whatever their own job is.

Plus, add to this he's a doctor, who are known for having trouble at times seperating their personal lives from their work, have trouble relating to people on a personal level also, and sometimes think that they're a bare step below God...

... well, you've got an unholy mess of personality disorders, making for a rather twitchy fella...

Now take that twitchy fella, rip everything he's comfortable with from him, send him on the run from the law with a crazier-than-him sister...

... you get the point...

That is only true if the story is built around the sexual tension and the chase. Dave and Mattie, Sam and Diane ... everyone else in those shows only existed to showcase 'the stars'.

This math doesn't apply in Firefly. Our show is a story of 9 people and their lives -- not 2 people and 7 pieces of moving background.

Hmm, I'm starting to feel a plan coming together...

DARKHOOD

Back off! If by any chance Kaylee does happen to jump out of the TV screen then she is mine!

------------------------------------------------

Mal's on the ground, about to get speared by Crow. A shot rings out. Crow is kneecapped.

Mal: Nice shot.

Jayne: I was aiming for his head.

Agreed. Just no more math analogies, okay? I was lousy at it in school!

Ummm ... why aren't your kids fans, too? Ours are still little but can name every main character, their occupations, and even some of their favourite activities.

Start 'em young!

Good point. Or, maybe, boy comes to his senses, but girl has found someone else. Entire movie spent on boy trying to win girl back!

Well, I don't know if you're reading Joss' mind on the subject, but you're certainly reading mine as I attempt to read his. Pretty convoluted, huh?

Read my 'future quote' next week from Simon, and then compare it to Kayley's from week 3...

The perfect age to start their Mandarin lessons then!

The other day I was doing some work for my mom and I forget what was on the news, but she just shook her head and said,"Now that's kinda creepifying." I nearly electrocuted myself I was laughing so hard.

Never too young and never too old to be a Browncoat. Hehehe.

Welllllll, I guess I could transition my kids by telling them that Mal was Spongebob, and Jayne was Patrick...I guess Zoe could be Sandy...let me think on this!

Or...

You could show 'em River and tell 'em that's what kids with 5-second attention spans wind up acting like when they reach their teens...

I can only abide about a minute of 'Spongesquare Bobpants', er, 'Squarebob Spongepants', er whatever, before all the freneticism forces me to the medicine cabinet for sedatives and an ice bag.

I don't have cable ... I assume that means little-little? My kids are 4 and 6 and *also* enjoy Spongebob. (As do I ... it's nice to see a cartoon with some actual humour in it, instead of those gorram Care Bears and go se like that!)

They sing along with the lyrics at the beginning of every episode. I have no idea why, but they *love* Heart of Gold above all other eps.

Good idea. I could also show them the scene where experiments are being conducted on River! Behave kids, or else I'll send you there!

My kids are 4 and 7. I like the adult humor in Spongebob. Sometimes I chuckle, and they don't understand what's so funny. Do you know Clancy Brown is the voice for Mr. Krabs? He was the original Highlander, and was the guard in Shawshank Redemption. And Bill Fagerback, formerly of Coach, is the voice of Patrick.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Kaylee's full name, how did I get on Spongebob??
