From TV Tropes.org (my new favorite addiction):

Quote:

A woobie (named for a child's security blanket) is that character you want to give a big hug, wrap in a blanket and feed soup to when he suffers so very beautifully.

I think I'd have to go with Wesley and Spike, though both are slightly debatable, since they've often at times done something to deserve said suffering. Then again, those are often my favorite kind of woobies; the ones who you know have done wrong, but you can't help but want to give them a big ol' hug anyway.

Feel free to add in woobies from other fandoms. Some more of my favorites include Ianto from Torchwood, Sam from Life On Mars, and House from House M.D. (if you're familiar with any of these shows, you know why ).

Willow. After Tera was taken from her in such a "human" way and couldn't be brought back by magic, I always felt sypathetic towards her after she recovered from Wicked Willow syndrome.

It has to be Mal...poor guy. Plan A NEVER works! And he gets beat up so often.

And in other 'verse it's House. A good hug would maybe make him not quite so grouchy.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Spike. Even though he's done undeniable evil, I continue to like him, and every time he's all beaten and battered automatic sympathy noises escape me of their own volition and I want to cuddle and pet and give him tea. (Or blood, I guess he would prefer blood.)
While there are many characters I like, many that I have sympathy for at times, many I'm drawn to on many levels, Spike seems to be the only one to provoke that particular reaction.

You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one.

TWILIGHTSEEKER

I would have to say Wash for certain as he looks like he would appreciate good cuddling, Simon because it would shake the walls of his too rigid sense of the appropriate, Mal cause if ever a man needed a hug and his boo boo kissed he is it, Spike cause I have to agree he is one sexy beast. Oh what the heck, Jayne too cause I think his reactions would be interestin.

gentle journey all,
twilight seeker

Kaylee, she's been insulted plenty by Mal, Jayne, Simon and the mean girls from Shindig and her sad face can break your heart. Though instead of wrapping her in a blanket and feeding her soup I would give her a bowl of strawberries, a teddy bear and a copy of the latest mechanics magazine (as well as the hug).

Also Whedon Woobies: Willow, Xander, Wash, River (though she may kill you)

Non-Whedon Woobies: Michael Scofield and Sara Tancredi (Prison Break), Wilson (HOUSE), Pam Beesley (Office), Ned (Pushing Daisies)

Your Indian Pirate Lord,
Ash

river, no question... she's just so vulnerable (in the emotional sense, not the ass kicking sense) and most of the time she doesn't even realize why she's suffering, which to me is really endearing.
