Just curious.

I've been trying to find a show to engage with and really, I've not found anything... I'm half enjoying Person Of Interest but Jim Caviezel's whispering voice is a little trying, and I gave Ringer a go with Sarah Michelle Gellar, but it just made me want to watch Buffy instead, and indeed that's what I'm doing...

..So just thought I'd ask and see what the Firefly Fans are watching on TV presently.

What's grabbing you?

TV seems to be sucking pretty hard these days. At least the broadcast network stuff.

Castle
New Girl
How I Met Your Mother
The Firm

Those are the ones I'm still enjoying to some extent. How I Met Your Mother is circling the drain though. Also I hear The Firm is pretty much destined to be canceled anyway. So, yeah. Low point for TV.

I *WAS* watching Nikita, but I sort of bailed once I saw it was going for a long arc that I was afraid it might not ever get to finish (I've got a bad case of cancellationophobia). I'll get it on DVD IF it ever gets to a proper ending.
CHUCK is over, and it ended well, thank the Lords of Kobol.
So really, now I watch nothing. New-broadcast-TV-wise, anyway. Castle episodes have been fun here & there, but I abhor commercials (I also have commercialophobia).
Nothing but a new Firefly or Dark Angel continuation series can bring me back to broadcast TV, I reckon. Or an animated Trek TOS show...

OTOH, the Tennent Doctor Who eps I've been seeing on Netflix ROCK!!!!!!! It's the best stuff I've seen since Stargate: Atlantis , except mostly BETTER!!!

Chris, have you seen any of Fringe? The first three seasons are on DVD/Blu-Ray, and it's in the middle of the fourth. IMO, it's the best TV since Firefly, and it seems FOX might actually let them get to a conclusion this time.

Interesting nods for Fringe. I watched the first half of the first season and just couldn't get on with it. I remember the contrivances with 'Global Massive' was it?.. just frustrated me.

The Walking Dead looked good but I only caught the first two episodes.

I thought the first season of WALKING DEAD was awesome (one of the best shows of the past few years). The second season isn't bad, but it doesn't live up.

FRINGE, in my opinion, has a bit of an uneven history. I found the first season to be very weak, but the next two seasons were increasingly better. I watched all three on DVD and was very excited the fourth season live. If you ask me, it's been a bit of a disappointment so far.

My wife and I watch a lot of comedies: THE OFFICE (still good), PARKS & RECREATIONS (same sense of humor as the office, but a bit fresher), COMMUNITY (when it's on, it's the best show on TV), 30 ROCK (sometimes the funniest show of the week, others, not so much), TWO BROKE GIRLS (this one is mostly for my wife), MIKE & MOLLY (again, for the wife, but I think it's the better of the two), WHITNEY (a prettty underestimated comedy), and NEW GIRL (took a while for this one to grow on me, but it can be very funny and bizarre). Oh, MODERN FAMILY, too.

I'm a big SURVIVOR fan so I'm waiting for the new season to start.

STAR WARS: CLONE WARS was a bit hit or miss at the beginning of the season, but the second half has been excellent.

We're giving ALCATRAZ, THE RIVER, and possibly TOUCH a try, but my wife is concerned that--like so many shows of the past decade--they'll be cancelled before we get to find out the secrets.

Rounding things out, we've got GLEE, REVENGE, ROYAL PAINS... all decent, but all of which I probablu wouldn't watch alone.

Its funny how much we all varry in what we want from a show, even though the shows we as a group watch are mainly the same.

I'd much rather a serialized, long-plot style show - even if I knew for a fact it wouldn't be resolved, or would have a less-than-stellar pay-off than something purely quo-maintaining/episodic series.

Heck, DS9 is probably the only Trek show I would even watch these days, had I not grown up on them.

Bear in mind that several of those shows are "on the bubble" for me. I gave up Fringe already - this season just wasn't going anywhere for me - and I didn't list Supernatural because it conflicts with something else that night, and isn't available on-demand when I want it, so I'll have to catch this final season in re-runs, I reckon.

Walking Dead is on the bubble, too, because it's just getting on my nerves.

I don't even think I listed the HBO, Starz, and Showtime series I like (but have to watch on DVD, having no premium cable channels).

No wonder I'm falling far behind in my television watching! And that's why I have to cull shows from the herd. For once in my life, there's so much good TV that there's really not time for mediocre stuff. "Revenge" is about as cheesy as I'll go, and that was purely because I hoped it would be like "Harper's Island", which promised (1) a murder a week, and (2) a definite conclusion, both of which it delivered. "Revenge" is mediocre, and I'll finish the season, but doubt I'd come back for more.

It's yet another indication that everyone has different expectations and desires about the shows they watch. You listed quite a few that don't interest me at all, whereas I cannot understand those who have given up on Fringe. There is one thing I think most would agree with, it is the least predictable show on the air. Not only do I not know where the overall story arc will end up, I usually can't even guess how each episode will conclude.

Chris, you know you can't pull that "old" shit on me.

Pardon me if I seem to be obsessive about Fringe, but I love it, and it's better than at least seven of those shows, IMO. I won't specify which ones. Take the best parts of The X-Files, add the best episodes of The Twilight Zone, then add the character strengths of Firefly, mix them all up and you'd get Fringe.

Gwek,

You're right about Fringe's first season, it meandered, almost directionless. But I thought that they just wanted to introduce the characters and premise. Seasons 2 and 3 were, by comparison, light years ahead. Anna Torv was great, especially in the 2 universes story arc.

The ensemble cast, as EC correctly put it, reminds me greatly of the Firefly cast, both in spirit and in essence. It seems to me that S4 is reveting back to the overall arc is S1; re-establishing the characters and group dynamic. I'm being patient with their direction this season, I believe the payoff will be worth it.

When I think of reality shows I think of folks behaving badly for the camera, or folks competing against each other in singing, losing weight, being an ass, etc.

I don't consider Mythbusters and the like to be "reality TV", based on that criteria, although that may seem a fine distinction.

For example, I consider "Storage Wars" to be a "reality" show since it's more about the competition between characters for storage units, but I don't consider "Auction Hunters" as "reality" because it's more about the stuff they find. This even though both are technically about folks trying to make a buck buying abandoned storage units.
