There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I've been thinking about this for a while, then Adam Baldwin mentioned it during the Q&A at the Dallas Sci-Fi Expo last Saturday. We're coming up on the 10 year anniversary of Firefly. Of course, it premiered on FOX September 20, 2002, but does anyone know the exact date that filming began for the pilot episode? If not, how can we find out that info?

I think that is a significant milestone to consider for fan activity. Or have we already passed that date?

I've been thinking on this a while now...

The things all of us could potentially have access to are; phone, TV, Radio, Mail, Internet.

I have no idea how much it would cost to put together a national commercial, but I would mail $$ for that...

I thought about community message boards (internets, and grocery stores) and gorrila arting them with something Firefly anniVERSEary and printable (words to the effect of ...and returning soon! would be nice, and hopefully true)..

I thought about Browncoats flash mobbing the most popular local theater near you- all at a certain time... wearing brown...

Big freaking banners...everywhere?

Everybody hitting the chat room at once?

Everybody gets together in Crisisall's backyard with a sheet of plywood a piece so he can tell us how to build a full scale model, and then we park it on the white house lawn?? That one's my favorite! Hehehe

C'mon, y'all have any ideas?

thank you letter's to Fox, Universal,Netflix and whatever cable channel is showing them?for airing the shows?

For my local group, pondering Beach Shindig, or a double trainjob to celebrate 10 years in the 'verse.

Another thought is DragonCon falls right around then. Maybe we can go for some sort of world record - # of fans singing a shows theme song? Or cunning hats in once place? Is there even a record for that?

From what I understand his intentions are that he'd make more if a studio came to him with an order for more. He's not going to be hitting the streets begging to return to the verse, but if the opportunity seeks him out then he's willing.

You mean Shepherd's Tale? I thought Joss sorta did that as a favor to Ron Glass and the fans. I don't see that as a sign that there's interest in reviving the franchise. I really don't think it's on anyone's radar. Probably the best/worst thing that could happen is if Avengers is a smash hit and Joss gets some big clout out of it. The problem is that he'd probably be locked into a least one Avenger's sequel immediately and be getting offers to do other types of projects. I think he'd get pulled away even more than he already is. However, he might get to the point where he can start pushing ideas and get people to throw him a bone here and there.

As to whether readers will see more "Serenity" from Zack Whedon (Joss' younger brother) in 2012, the writer said that he'd like to tell the story of "where they headed after the movie. I'm having some pre-pre-pre-preliminary discussions with Dark Horse about that." December 21st, 2011 interview at www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=36006

For the longest time I felt that Joss didn't want anyone writing novels, or for any of the comics to be post-Serenity, since he wanted to save that for a possible filmed sequel. Then came Float Out, and now if Zack does tell some of that story in new comics it may be possible that Joss feels he will never get another chance to get our BDHs in front of the camera again. It really pains me to think about that, but to be realistic it makes sense. It has been ten years.

And before anyone chimes in about it being ten years between the end of Star Trek TOS and TMP, that show had 79 episodes running almost perpetually in syndication to build up an audience. No matter how much I love Firefly I know we aren't anywhere close to that level yet, and most likely never will be.

I'm still holding though. I'm stubborn like Mal.

See, I've always thought that they would have to put out something "official" storywise of post Serenity, because a few people didn't accept and want to go back to pre Serenity... By putting out a "post" you kinda HAVE to take that first step into the new timeline and it opens up the possibilities for a more interesting re-starting point, instead of the sad point we left off. And that sadness is the reason I think a lot of us are still here, it just wasn't really resolved-he threw a band-aid over it and called it a day...

Then there's the fact that we are still getting newbies FROM EVERYWHERE, and while they could've stumbled across it themselves, I have this notion that Firefly is intentionally being still marketed and sold for a reason, other than us.

Also, in that article posted by Two it said "That was part of my decision to have these be stand alone stories that don't affect the greater mythology of these characters..."

WHAT WAS THE OTHER PART???
And yeah, I realize there is several different conclusions there...

The thing is, for me anyway, that it's what they're NOT saying that is not adding up to a "NO" and it's more of a "We're working on it, just slowly."

not to fret!

Oh man, if I had the money, I'd buy a bunch of copies of Serenity. I'd deck my Jeep out to be even more Browncoat-y than usual (she's modeled after the ship already). Then I'd head over to Orlando and give out copies of the movie to anyone I saw, shouting "Browncoats Forever" out the window. Afterwards, I'd speed outta town before the cops got to me for disturbing the peace. I was introduced to the movie in a similar way (not as theatrical, though) and that led me to the wonder of the series. Maybe it could grow a few more fans. Plus, I'd get it on the news, that's for sure.

Hmm, if I start now, saving a few bucks each paycheck, I could save quite a bit by September. *strokes her non-existent evil beard*

The Star Trek comparison duznt work either way, ec.

There wuz only the 3 networks and local stationz back then - no videotape, DVD or BR.

It woud be interesting to get ratingz info for the ST rerunz & compare it to DVD salez for Firefly, but it woudnt really mean anything.

Anyway, look at wut the studioz do revive. Time iz not an issue, nor it seemz, iz the size uv a fan base.

How long had Bewitched been off the air and how many people were clamoring for a movie?

3/5 is next Monday, 9/20 is on a Thursday. Are we talking email blitz, flashmob, or something simple like "Wear a Firefly/Serenity shirt to work" day?

The link that b!X had way at the top looks genuine! There's all sorts of ways to celebrate, large and small, it seems to me.
Can't Stop The Serenity is running a contest for March 5th.
"What are your first memories of Firefly?"

In 100 words or more, write those down, send it in to info at cantstop the serenity dot com and we'll be handing out a copy of Firefly: The Official Companion, Vol 1 to a randomly drawn winner. Then we'll post many of the entries for all to read.
Details are over at the website:
http://tinyurl.com/6wxlmrm

It's a small celebration, but judging from the responses we've received so far, a popular one.
