Whedon: still hasn't given up on Firefly

Quote:It's been nearly a decade since the beloved, short-lived Fox sci-fi western Firefly graced the airwaves, but creator Joss Whedon says he's still game to return to the universe that made him (more of) a cult icon. Though he's moved on to much bigger projects (you may have heard of his latest film, The Avengers?), Whedon said in a SXSW panel over the weekend that Firefly still holds a big place in his heart, and if given the chance, he'd make another movie—or a few more seasons—in a heartbeat. "I keep thinking they're going to call me, crunch the numbers and say 'Hey, we can make money from this!'—but they don't," he was quoted as saying by Indiewire. "I would never rule it out, I love those people. But I can't just wait by the phone." Though almost all of the cast and crew have moved on to bigger and better things since the final chapter in the Firefly saga, the 2005 film Serenity, it's nice to know that Whedon still thinks about the continuing adventures of Captain Mal Reynolds and the gang. What do you think? Would you like to see a 10-year Firefly reunion?

Quote:Originally posted by PENQUIN11: I agree. Serenity (movie) has been sucessful on both Netflix and Itunes, as well have the firefly tv shows. With the recent re-running of the original episodes FOX might make a move to rejuvinate the show. With no other Scifi show to oppose it- and a surprising downward trend in the sucess of reality TV shows FOX might pull the trigger.

It's been 10 years, quit blaming FOX and try a reboot on Syfy! Just don't ask for to much money, they like their Sci-Fi cheap.

Quote:Originally posted by LiLi: A completely useless answer, continuing your tradition of being wholly negative and calling it "rational" or "realistic." I'm all for rational and everything, but you tend to go beyond that. Realistic could easily be something along the lines of, "This is nice to hear. It's too bad that tangled legal issues and the decade spent in limbo make a comeback somewhat unlikely." But no. You can't ever be sensible without being belligerent, saying that Whedon has personally given up on the franchise and anyone who believes otherwise is delusional. I'm not confusing realistic with negative, because you are not being simply realistic, you are clearly using it as an excuse to be negative and insulting. And this is hardly the first time I've seen it; you do this every time anyone shows the least bit of excitement over a shout-out to Firefly, or an interview about Firefly, or speculation about whether another movie could get made. News flash: this is a site for fans, and little sparks of joy over such things is what we do. It's the same on any fansite. The only thing that makes this one unique is that we have the rare opportunity to squee over such things even though Firefly has been off the air for years. Very few shows that are no longer running get any attention at all, but if they did you could bet their fandom would talk about it. We're lucky. We get something to talk about on a fairly regular basis. It seems you have no desire to talk about it, only to dismiss it and insult anyone who doesn't follow your lead. I don't understand why you're on a fansite for a show you seem to have no affection for.

Joss has been saying different renditions of the same thing for years and we can plainly see there is no Firefly revival. The Browncoat community is like the boy who cried wolf for 8 straight years.

Oh right, because I'm just "misunderstanding" you, right? Calling people delusional isn't meant as an insult, of course, and it's ridiculous that such statements would offend anyone.

Quote:Originally posted by LiLi: Quote:Originally posted by Zeek: The Browncoat community is like the boy who cried wolf for 8 straight years. Please point out where in this thread anyone said, "OMG Firefly is coming back u guise OMG!" Right. No one did. For you to say that I came in here looking for a fight is petty, and a neat attempt to paint me as the bad guy. I was looking for no such thing; I'm just sick of your insulting and negative behavior. I was looking for a few moments of giddiness and joy in my day, and instead I encounter this negativity again. As I said, you do this all the time. Yet you're surprised that anyone would call you on it? And pointing out the fact makes me the bad guy? Oh right, because I'm just "misunderstanding" you, right? Calling people delusional isn't meant as an insult, of course, and it's ridiculous that such statements would offend anyone. Saying more-or-less outright that Joss Whedon is lying, when he has no reason to, is clearly just an indication of how much you like Firefly and hold its writers and creators in respect. Obviously I need to restate: Taking joy in anyone still talking about a show we love is what fans do. No one here has any illusions that it means more than it means, so your implications of delusion are, again, insulting. Posturing as though you act for the greater good, saying that the thread title is "cruel" and you alone have the wherewithal to stand against the "false hope," is totally laughable. The thread title is accurate in its wording. It references a quote from Joss Whedon that he would like to continue the story, were it possible. There is no implication that any offers have been made, or that Whedon is abandoning any projects, or anything else you seem to be implying with all your "delusional crying wolf" nonsense. You act out of distain rather than concern, behavior I find incomprehensible on a fan board. If you hate threads like this sooo much, they should be fairly easy to avoid. Just don't click on anything that has "Firefly" in the subject line. You'll be set.
