Just wanted to say thank-you to everyone who made Dragon*Con such an absolute blast. All three of us had an excellent time, and we were floored by the support and the love from the fans out there. The little Firefly that could, right? How is it that this could have happened? I can't explain it. All I can do is feel grateful.

As for how much we need to make our first couple of weekends in order to carry on with our fantastic trilogy: All studios ever want to do is make their money back. That constitutes a huge hit for them. So as long as that budget comes back to them, which is $40 mil as we all know, then they will be happy as clams. Whoever made the comment ( I was snooping) that the second weekend is almost as important as the first weekend is absolutely correct: the interest has to carry through a little bit. A big drop in ticket sales after opening weekend is never a good thing. So if you do plan on seeing it twice, do so once the first weekend, and once the second weekend. Now, if you're a TRUE fan (like me), then you'll see it five times the first weekend and five times the second!! I for one am seeing it at least twice the day it opens, and I'm taking all of my family and all of my friends...

This is very exciting for all of us. We feel the anticipation and the enthusiasm building for this project, and after working so hard and loving it so much, it feels really redeaming. (think I spelled that wrong but who cares). To those of you I met at the con who expressed that enthusiasm to me personally, I LOVE you truly. I can promise you that this film will give you goosebumps, as it did to me, and you will walk away satisfied. There may be things you will love and there may be things you don't, but I trust Joss's storytelling ability whole-heartedly, and I can say that he is a very brilliant man who knows how to work an audience!

Thank you again for everything you've done for us. I'm glad we're your "big damn heroes", and I feel proud. This is the best fan base there ever was for the best show that ever was. Here's to upcoming successes! You're awesome!

Ahhh... I see you have fallen prey as well to double-posting. That's okay, we've all been there. :)

Thank you so much... you and the rest of our BDH has made this experience so enjoyable to ride, and even though I'm living vicariously through the Browncoats who's had the chance to meet you I've been so grateful that you've all allowed me to be a part of it.

This whole Firefly/Serenity experience has been the most personal and touching. I'm looking forward to the premiere and will be back for seconds... thirds... fourths... fifths... and so on. :) hehehe

P.S. I've practically converted my entire staff and am slowly working on the entire office. *evil smirk* We are sooo going to take over the world.

Jewel, thanks and you're welcome! All 3 of you were amazing. I can't express how kick ass it was to see all of y'all cutting up and having such a good time.

Just to let it be known, I've started putting out those flyers from the Browncoat table and redoubled my 1 man ad campaign. Christmas gifts? HA! Firefly DVD's will fit snuggly into any stocking. ( Hope Amazon has enough )

Now that I'm thinking about it, does anyone know when we're likely to see the first trailers in theatres for the BDM? My guess is by Turkey day, no later than Christmas.

I want to thank all the Browncoats who took so much time out of their lives to go to DragonCon and send back frequent and detailed reports on Our Special Heroes.

What I read was entertaining and inspiring and that's because of you, Jewel, and Nathan and Adam, and of course, the rest of the crew back on Serenity.

I've had little experience with "fandom" but all I can say is this must be the best!

I know I'll be there on April 22, 2005, and I know many others who will be too, some I converted, but many others who came to Firefly on their own. Doesn't that seem right to you?

Thank you for posting. I must say, there are a lot of special things about Firefly (and Serenity), but one of the one I'm most stricken by is how the enthusiasm the cast has for the show really comes through, at every turn. It makes us feel like we all have something in common, that we love the show.

Thank you so much, Jewel, for posting this and letting us know, once again, that you all appreciate us as much as we do you! I have been a 'Browncoat' for a very short time, but I have already fallen completely in love with this show, it's amazing cast and crew, and the entire fandom.

I've been just blown away by how powerful a show Firefly was and is and I cannot wait to see it on the silver screen!! You're all gonna be Big Damn Moviestars, and it couldn't happen to a better bunch of people. I have utter faith in Joss and all of you, and rest assured I will be buying mass quantities of tickets when the time comes!! Best of luck and thanks to all of you for your hard work!!

Whoa! "ALL" of your friends? Does that mean *we're* all invited to see it *with* you? I just finished watching my video of the second Firefly panel and it is hi-larious.

To all who missed D*C, find out when you can see our BDHs next *before* the movie comes out and BE there. The experience is well worth whatever it costs. After the BDM, well, it will probably be a little more difficult to reach the BDHs - they're gonna be HUGE! (HDH just doesn't have the same ring to it, though.)

I told Jewel thanks at least twice in person, probably more ... but again, thanks for coming to Atlanta.

Why are you still arguing what's been decided?

Jewel,

Huge thanks belong to you and to the rest of the cast who have shown just as much devotion and appreciation to us, the fans, as we have shown to you. I have never been involved with a show that inpsired that kind of devotion, nor a cast that involved themselves so much in our lives. It means a lot to each and every one of us!! *hugs*

Because of that, the success of this movie and Firefly's future means everything to me, and to the rest of us Browncoats I'm sure! So believe me when I say I'll put in my 110% (or 150% or 200%) in getting the word out and then in being there multiple times on the weekend the movie opens and it's second weekend! I know it's going to be wonderful and I know you all will continue to blow us away.

Until then, guess we'll all have to wait impatiently with fingers crossed, but I just know it's gonna be amazing!

It still amazes and thrills me to see our Big Damn Heroes post on boards. Stars of the People, or some such. I can't wait to see it myself. Maybe you've scoured the forums about, maybe not, but some places are planning Big Damn Premieres! North Carolina is no exception. Static, a poster on this board, has gone so far as to contact the guy in charge of distribution for North Carolina at Universal. There's a old-fashioned movie palace type place that we've secured for a Big Damn Premiere party for opening day! We're all very excited! Even people I'm just introducing to Firefly all say the same things. "Why was this cancelled?! This is so good!" Which it is, and you guys are. We're all just about to burst with anticipation.

I can't wait until April! We'll be out in force-the first weekend, the second, the third and we'll buy the crap out of it when it comes out on DVD.

This year, everyone on my Christmas list is getting 'Firefly'... ditto for birthday gifts. Love the idea of Serenity premieres!

I'm in love with Firefly, the people involved, the fanbase. There is just no bad here.

Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm with us, Jewel. It shines through in your work and delights us all.

I've been reading FFF.net for a while now, and am registered over at the Serenitymovie.com board. BUt I had to register when I read this!

Is this NC shindig anywhere near charlotte? I just moved here so I don't know anybody and it would be great to hang out with other NC browncoats to see this movie several times in April.

There's an old movie palace called the Rialto in Raliegh. It's a gorgeous one screen theatre that even features a stage for the hosting of pre-show festivities. Raliegh's not an easy drive for me (I live in Salisbury, that's still 2, 2 1/2 hours away) but you better believe I'll be there. Mostly because my friend is basically putting it all together. His name on this board is Static, if you want to look him up. He's the contact for all this. His friend owns the Rialto, and he's the guy what called Universal about making sure it gets distributed to that guy's market. The Rialto owner owns three other movie theatres besides that one, including Mission Valley (our number 2 choice). The threads are buried somewhere in the forum, if you want to look them up.

I didn't think the week could get any better after getting to meet some of my BDHs at Dragon*Con, but it just did. I was deeply touched to see how much you and Adam and Nathan (and I am certain now that this would apply to the rest of the cast) care about and love your fans. It was such an honor and a pleasure to meet all of you at the convention.

Now about that opening weekend. Aside from your family, who better to see it with than some fellow Browncoats? Just let us know when and where, and we'll be there.

Hey Jewel, I read several fan reports from Dragon*Con and it sounds like it was so incredibly shiny!

It would mean the world to me if you or some of your cast mates came over to Baltimore's Farpoint con ( http://www.bcpl.net/~wilsonr/farpoint.html ) this coming February 11, 12 & 13, 2005. It is perfect timing to hype the BDM just before it is released. I also happen to be good friends with this year's Programming Chairman, and he is a HUGE Firefly fan. It's a fun little con, not as grand as Dragon*Con or Comic-con, but it's a lot of fun.

Oh, it's also the con where two years back we were totally snowed in and had to keep going another day. ;) That was a lot of fun, but don't worry, snow like that is an anomaly in Maryland, it's only happened twice in my lifetime (18 years).

Sorry, just had to pimp my favorite con, I would love to have Firefly guests there. You'll be treated right, and get a warm reception.

Keep flying, and don't you worry, we'll make Serenity a big damn success, and get those sequels made (and inevitable return to TV?).

Thanks Jewel, It was such a pleasure meeting the three of you on the walk of fame...it was worth every agonizing minute in line. I just wish the whole cast could have been together...well, maybe when one of the networks snap out of their brain dead funk and bring back the show. Anyway, the love that yourself and Nathan and Adam had for the characters and the show is the reason firefly is so endearing and addicting. In my eyes, you've all become a part of my life, and I feel blessed and enriched to have had the opportunity to experience as much as I did. You've made a positive mark in many peoples lives!

"Take me out to the black"

She takes us where we've never been, and

She gives us what we need to know

Into the black we always go

Her life is such a tender thread

With loving hands to mend its tread

Quick hands to guide with skill and drive

Fierce talons in the eagles dive

She carries in our time of need

Our truest and our only steed

She covers what we hide away

For in the black is where we stay

A lovers grace to soothe and ease

A caring faith will sow the seed

The mending mind and insightful muse

Will often lend the need to choose

And even a heart as hard as stone

Will lose its rough and tumbled tone

She shows us why we need to go

For in the black we learn to grow

A command of honor and a heart of gold

Is how and why this story's told

So hang on tight and ride the winds

No reavers bite can rein us in

No power in the verse can stop our flight

Out of the deepest and the darkest night

Into the black we'll surely be

In our beloved Serenity

Thanks for posting, Jewel. It's one of the many things that makes our BDHs so special. I was so pleased to be able to speak to you briefly while getting your autograph.

I've been to my share of cons and I have to say that I have never seen a cast with such real life chemistry and devotion to their show. Many times an actor will say, "What episode was that? I don't remember that scene," but you guys can still reel off your dialogue--and that of the others besides. Your panels were the most impressive (and fun) I've seen in years.

I hope you get the doll that says "Shiny" and that there is an awesome Serenity ride at Universal theme parks before long.

Jewel,

I didn't make the Con, but one of the things I am seeing about my Firefly experiences is that we have something alot of fans of other shows/movies don't: Honest response and interaction from the cast members. It's more than a job to you and the rest, and it shows.

On behalf of alot of grateful fans, you and the rest of the Firefly/Serenity crew (meaning Joss, the BDHs and every "little guy" on the sets) have our heartfelt thanks for giving us something so special.

Hey Jewel thanks for posting. I was wondering when we would hear from you again. Hope you and Matt made it home okay. I hope Matt is finally over that cold.

I was one of the lucky Browncoats that was at Dragon Con and had the honor and pleasure of meeting you at the Browncoat table on Friday. My daughter was the one fawning over you.

I just want to say how great it was to have you, Adam and Nathan there at the Con this year. The three of you made this the best Dragon Con I have ever attended. I really appreciate the pictures and autographs that all of you were kind enough to let me have. The Firefly panels were very entertaining and informative. I came away from each w/ a grin and feeling very excited about the BDM.

Trust me when I say that each and everyone of us feels grateful for the BDM and we appreciate the fact that each of our Big Damn Heroes were able to come when Joss called and do the movie.

Thanks for the info Jewel. This jives w/ what Adam told us at the DVD viewing on Saturday night.

Oh, we are TRUE fans alright (though not as big as Nathan claims to be ) so you can count on all of us to go see the movie as many times as we can the first two weeks. I know that I intend to go at least six to ten times the first two weeks, taking people w/ me everytime I go. I will also be buying an extra ticket in honor of Lux everytime I go.

The enthusiasm and love that you, Adam and Nathan felt for Serenity was obvious to any attending the panels on Friday, Saturday or Sunday Jewel. Believe me when I say that your enthusiam was infectious and each of us came away from Dragon Con anticipating the movie more than when we arrived. We LOVE you guys too. I hope that was apparent by the welcome we gave you.

I know I for one came home feeling more motivated than ever before to promote the DVD set and Serenity. I have been busy loaning out DVD sets and handing out 11th Hour's beautiful fliers since I got home. I have them hanging in my office and have all but made it mandatory (though that may be next ) for my employees to check out the DVD set.

I believe that we will all be moved by the film that Joss and and our BDHs have created. We trust Joss and the cast to create something beautiful, something that we all feel will launch Firefly/Serenity into the world as the best sci fi show ever created.

No, thank you and Joss, the cast and crew for giving us a show that has inspired such love and devotion as Firefly has done. If we are the best fan base it is only because Joss is the best w/ the best cast and show ever seen. I know that Serenity will be even better and we are counting the days until it is released.

It was so great meeting you and Nathan and Adam. I'm so glad you came and enjoyed your time. I sure did. I've been going to Dragon*Con for a couple of years now and I can say hands down y'all had the best panels ever. The joy and love you have for Firefly and each other just shined through. Thank you for posting as well.

To the person who asked about trailers. Universal will probably have a teaser out for the holidays more late Christmas than Thanksgiving I'm thinking. Universal, like most studios, tend to want trailers placed for their movies on their own big movies. First guess would be to look for it on Bridget Jones 2 or Meet the Fockers. Trailer lists are an interesting discussion I won't get into here but suffice it to say we get mandated on what we put where. I'll post the second we get any marketing heads up on anything Serenity based.

Currently I have the Firefly poster up in our AMC lobby at least until the Universal rep shows up and makes me take it down. Since he was there last week, don't expect him back for at least two weeks. Anything I get I can guarantee you will be front and center in the lobby the second I get my hands on it and since I also oversee box office on Friday nights, Serenity will be on the lips of all box office personnel to recommend. I will put butts in the seats!

Jewel, can I call you Jewel?, I just wanted to tell you it was a pleasure to meet you at Dragon*Con. I was the very nervous guy, with the mustache, Friday nite that asked for a picture and an autograph. Tell Matt thanks again for offering to take a picture of us, I am just not very photogenic. I almost bumped(literally) into Adam at the elevators in the hotel and was going to ask if I could take a picture, but he really looked like he was in a hurry and no one had recognized him at that point, he actually couldn't get onto one elevator and had to wait for a second one. I decided to not 'blow his cover' since he would have probably been mobbed. Anyway, I am glad to hear that you all had a great time in Atlanta and I hope to see you again next year at Dragon*Con, well, sooner would be nice too. We actually had a Firefly-a-thon at the house on Labor Day. I am still seeing something new every time I watch it. I am sure I will need to see the movie a few times to be sure I don't miss anything.

Miss Jewel,

Thank you so much for coming to Dragon*Con. We enjoyed meeting you as much as you did meeting us. (You and Nathan are soooo funny. He's going to have to work real hard to beat your newest bird.)

Y'all have said it, some of us have said it, but I'll say it again. The "little Firefly that could" and all the joy that comes from it stems from one man - Joss. Without him, there would be no Firefly. So I thank him! And we are behind him and the crew 150%!!!

When you said that you cried when you read the script ~ along with you, Nathan and Gina tearing up watching Summer act ~ and Adam saying it was the best movie he's ever been in... whoa. It's going to be AWEsome, isn't it?! *does the happy dance*

You guys do your promoting; we'll do ours. 'Cause we're all waiting to "go home."

Again, thanks for posting. Now if we could only get that crap, I mean, CHAP, Fillion to do the same. Aim for 10, Nathan, come on. We love our Captain. (alas, no more autos or photos for me)

Jewel, it was so very special to have you and Nathan and Adam at DragonCon this year...you guys truly made the convention exciting and fun, and generated so much buzz about the movie. I know we made some new converts last weekend just from people seeing the crowds in your panels and the lines for autographs!

I look forward to seeing you again in the future(and maybe I can get a good picture this time!), and remind Matty to shoot us some screen caps from his video he took of the "salute" we gave Nathan on Saturday...it was truly priceless, and I want to see pictures of what you saw; that huge flock of birds, just for Nathan!

Thanks again for being so accessible and warm, and we are very blessed to be, as Adam put it, "part of the family" (I teared up when he said that!)

I'm doing all I can to promote the movie here. I've even started up a Firefly thread in the local Lord of the Rings fanclub I'm in, www.ohioringcouncil.com . As it turns out, many of them are huge fans of the show already. Shiny!

Thanks so much for posting here, its great to hear from our BDH's. Can't wait for Serenity - which we'll probably see numerous times and hopefully add a few more folks to this rapidly growing family! Have already converted a few more my own self as has my daughter, all of 11 she is. She's beside herself already about this film!

Also, as you are new to town, if you want to meet let me know. I'd be happy to show you around, as it's easy to get turned around here.

ANYAM

Well, here I go being a fangirl.

I'm a pretty new recruit to the browncoats. I actually saw 'Firefly' for the first time only about a month ago (I took the recommendation of a friend of mine on such faith that I bought the DVDs before having seen a single frame of the show; best $40.00 I've spent in a while); now I'm hopelessly in love with it and wondering why it wasn't the biggest damn show on the planet.

In any case, I've been lurking around this forum for a bit and had to join after seeing this. This isn't my first fandom, but it's one of the few with which I've wanted to get involved where, as others have said, the cast seems as passionate about the show as the fans. It's awesome and an honor to find a post from you here, and it's awesome that you've been a part of such an incredible project (and, uh, by the way, I really dug "Flash Forward" when I was a wee youngun, too. And if that doesn't scream my tender age to the world I don't know what will).

I wasn't at Dragon*Con because I didn't know what I'd be missing. It was also probably too far away for me to go. And I haven't been here for the long haul like a lot of other folks around these parts. But thank you still, so much, for making 'Firefly' and for taking time to mingle with the fans.

Firefly is indeed a phenomenon, and we're lucky to get in on the ground floor, invited by such a wonderful cast and crew. Thanks Jewel and all of the others, for making us want to come along for the ride.

You know, a whole bunch of UK-Browncoats would love to see more of the Firefly crew. Will more people (yourself included) be joining Morena in going to the Starfury con?

P.S. Thanks for posting .

Now, if you're a TRUE fan (like me), then you'll see it five times the first weekend and five times the second!! I for one am seeing it at least twice the day it opens, and I'm taking all of my family and all of my friends...

Lessee now, if I buy one ticket the first week, & two tickets the second, four tickets the third week, eight tickets the fourth, &c, by the time I get to the end of the chessboard I'll be buying up every ticket in every cinema in the 'verse. So, if y'all wanna see the BDM in July 2006, drop me a line.

Thanks for posting again Jewel!

I don't know how much the UK box office take will count for in the grand scheme of things, but fear not, I'm sure all the Browncoats will be out in force over here come the local release date (whenever that is).

As for me, I am planning to take the opening week off work and see it at least four times each day! Assuming we get it at the same time as the US, that'll lead straight into the Starfury: Serenity con in London, so that's definitely going to be a week to remember!

For those who have asked, Jewel is listed as a guest for Serenity along with Morena, Alan and Summer. Shiny

Hi world!

I just wanted to bump this back up. The very pretty and rather talented Jewel 'Where's Wash' Staite posted this back in 2004, and since we have an awful lot of new Browncoats who didn't see the passion for this thing back in the day: here it is.

I think I have to say; Huh?
And add a little; How? What? Who? Really?

Thought someone said that none of the Firefly cast had accounts here. Only heard that Joss occasionally posted stuff on whedonesque. Well, guess I was wrong. Well, been a couple of years since this post, but glad to see our BDH actually occasionally check the site out.

Well, Im just ranting by now, so ill just finish with a; Cool, and I hope we hear from Mrs. Staite again, but also from the rest of our heroes.

That rocks so effing hard...

2004... dude, I wish I had been here so bad. My ass was off getting shot at for a career that was ultimately swept right out from under my feet. If I could go back, I swear, I would have enlisted as a Browncoat instead of a grunt.

I really want to go on a rant right now, this subject brings up all sortsa hostile feelings.

My country kicked me out on my ass without so much as a "thank you!", so first off, FUCK the Army suits. Second, FireFly took the shattered remains of what pathetic civilian life I had afterwards and helped be peice them back together. My friends and family couldn't handle me after I got discharged, I lived out of my FUCKING car for almsot 5 months, and the only FUCKING thing I had was the feeling this show gave me.

I got a job now, two raises in less than a year, I'm going into the National Guard, and my family lets me live and visit with them. Everything's nice again, but I will never forget the only thing I had when everything else was gone. These actors, they got no idea how much better they made people's lives through doing this show, they got not clue how much making a tragic situation look like the was something sweet and serene hidden in it gave people strength to live. And I bet people who get this much from a TV show scare the hell out of them.

Oh fucking well. God bless that cast, God bless the crew, God bless anyone who ever did anything for that show.

Jewel has 5 posts here I believe. Jewel also has her own blog elsewhere on the internet, and she's on Myspace. (She also went to a shindig in Canada).

Alan has one post here, I think he posted as JoeBlogs or somesuch.

Adam Baldwin has 20,000+ posts on the Firefly Prospero board. Nathan also occasionally posts there.

Summer's mum lurks and posts here, I believe.

Nathan and Joss both have many posts on the old Browncoats board - SerenityMovie.org under Archive at the top right.

If the Cons could have moved to the east coast, I would not feel like such a wasted Browncoat. I could have met a few of the actors and done more for the cause. Alas, I could only buy as much Firefly/Serenity stuff as I could afford. As well as watch Firefly when it originally aired on what is now a stupid and useless network!
