The kiddo and I had literally nothing to do today and wanted to go see Wonder Woman, but as hubbs wants to see it too, we decided to wait for him and see Cars 3 instead.

As Pretty Woman would say "BIG MISTAKE, HUGE."

First, it became abundantly clear as I was watching today that each Cars movie is targeted towards an age demographic.

The first one is obviously the most fun of the three, so kids.
The second stressed violence AND culture so the 20-40.
This one targeted the 55 and over club, preferably the ones who have teen granddaughters.

If that is you, and you aren't big on comedy... you should STILL wait for this movie to hit the 5$ bin at Wal-mart, and then get something else.

It even had our dear Captain, Nathan Fillion, as Mr. Sterling, "Capitalist Douche Extraordinaire" (that was my over-educated daughters' phrasing, she's in a phase where she likes to call everyone a douche, lol)

Not even the Captain could rescue us from the drudgery that was this movie for long. The homage to Paul Neuman -who died in 2008- was the first clue to the depression to linger through the movie. There was at least a good dozen references to the fact the "Doc Hudson" is no longer with us, which I'm sure the kids just LOVED. Then came the voices of the Car Talk guys, of which Tom Magliozzi is also deceased, who sell the Rust-eze brand. More depressing for me than anything. I think they managed to use bits of previous recordings on both accounts.

The overall theme of the movie was about losing your relevance, and aging. Another WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY THINKING THIS IS A KIDS MOVIE?????
They literally say the words "You're OLD" at least a dozen times.
If that isn't bad enough, there was only two or three mildly amusing parts. So, NOT a movie that young ones would really enjoy, anyway.

Then, the ending moral was that a woman can succeed in a mans world today as long as she has a man to hold her hand and tell her it's okay. Maybe this was to pander to the aging male and that generational dynamic, but I found it sexist and limited. "Lightning Mcqueen mansplains racing" would probably be a better title.

Sections of this movie were so dull and so annoying I had to fight to stay in my seat to the end.

My kid said she would be generous and give it a C- for entertainment value, and that if Nathan wasn't in it she would have given it a D-.

She's never given a movie a D.

Officially the WORST year in movies.

America loves a winner!

I'm hoping Despicable 3 is worth my time and $. Liked CARS a lot, and heard so many bad things about the 2nd one, I didn't even bother.

I had hoped this one would revive the line of cars movies, as it were, but alas.... I can wait it to show up on Starz ,or Netflix.

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

I'm just a red pill guy in a room full of blue pill addicts.

Kiddo wants to see that too. I fell asleep during the first one. Think I'll send hubbs and let you know.

I don't get what happened, either. The first Cars movie was really great. It's in the pile of things we watch when we're looking for a pick-me-up. I think studios started putting too much in, and trying too hard to be different. Simple can be a great thing, if it's done genuinely and with focus.
