I'm really at a loss here, because I didn't see as many movies as you, but, because the pickings are slim.

I agree with Wind River choices, I thought it was the beast of the year as far as I'm concerned. So definitely Renner and Olsen for acting, the director, cinematography and Best Picture. Best Screenplay.

Wonder Woman - Gal Gadot, Best Actress; director, and Best Film.

Meghan Levy - Kate Mara, Best Actress. Edie Falco, Best Supporting

Logan - Hugh Jackman, Best Actor; Dafne Keen, supporting actress, Patrick Stewart, supporting actor, Best Film

Ana De Armas, Best Actress - Blade Runner

Connie Nielsen; Best Supporting Actress - Wonder Woman

Now, the year ain't over so there's some that may come up and surprise people;
I'm thinking about The Post with Hanks and Streep in particular. I may add some later but that's it for now. I'm not sure about the Last Jedi, but I've heard good things, we'll see.

P.S. Almost forgot, Thor: Ragnarok could be considered for Best Film.

I haven't seen Thor yet.
Didn't know that you saw Meghan Levy.

I am hopeful for Last Jedi.
Still haven't seen Book of Henry.

But the so-called blockbusters have been disappointing.

Yeah, I saw Meghan Levy on Hulu recently and I liked it, especially because of Kate Mara, she's awesome (although I'm still in love with Elizabeth Olsen, Mmmmmmm, the Scarlet Witch).

I think you'll like Thor, I still haven't seen The Book of Henry - but it's on my list. I'm hopeful for the Last Jedi.

I agree, the big blockbusters have turned out to be major duds, well most of them.

If you liked Kate Mara she is adorable in Shooter, the long delayed film from Point of Impact about 20 years before - the beginning of the Bob Lee Swagger stories.

My suggestion for the Oscars is that nobody watch it or click on any links online about the results.

Just a big narcissistic rich persons party where they get to sprinkle in a bunch of their elitist ides on how we should all live our lives while they often tend to do the exact opposite behind closed doors.

LOL... oh, sorry.

That being said, I've only seen maybe 3 movies all year, and I'm not sure if any of them were even made this year. I now ARQ wasn't... maybe Welcome to Me was? I don't even remember if I watched a third one.

Meh... give all the awards to Welcome to Me and Kristen Wigg if it was. She seems really nice, and she took a serious beating last year for Ghostbusters.

Okay, I'll give you that one...she IS really nice and she did get quite a "beating" for Ghostbusters (I'm assuming she didn't write the script, which was horrible). The two saving graces of that film was McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth. But that script.....ugh!

Okay, the story is that I bumped into her on an elevator in NYC, while I was visiting Rock Center. I somehow got lost and found myself in some sort of service elevator and the doors open and in walks Kristen Wiig herself, unaccompanied and looking confused herself. She asked me if she was in the wrong elevator - I guess she didn't expect to see a regular person riding that particular elevator - anyways,
it took me a second, but then I recognized her and I kind of froze. I said the only thing that came to my mind, "Hello" she said hi and smiled nicely.

I told her that it was okay because I too was lost and probably shouldn't be in the elevator. She said okay, and then got off on another floor. I was totally oblivious to the fact that they film SNL in that building. BTW, Gilly and Penelope are two of my favorite characters of hers. And that, my friends, was my one Hollywood moment.

So yay Kristen Wiig! (and I saw Welcome to Me)

I agree with your take on this topic Jewels. This is about what "we" would like to see get an Oscar nomination. Who we would like to see win one, and not about politics or even movie stars congratulating each other.

Me, I watch to compare notes, but also because of tradition. I've been watching pretty much all my life, and it tickles me. Fuck politics and everything else. It's pure escapism for a couple of hours, that's entertainment, like any other show. Besides, it's not everyone's cup o' tea.

Additionally it can mean what would fellow Browncoats suggest to each other, in this gift buying season, instead of waiting for some group to announce, and then prices might go up.

I saw Dark Tower at Best Buy for $6, but $19 at Walmart.

I didn't say fake was bad.

They need to keep their political opinions to themselves is what I was saying. I don't need some mega-rich creeps telling me how I should behave, and I find the current trend of a lot of them being proven hypocrites and the creeps that they are hilarious.

I really can't wait until the identity politics of "male vs female" finally ends and we start hearing stories about how just as many female celebrities are garbage people as well.

Welcome to Me was a good movie. I'm assuming she either wrote that or at least had input in the creative process.

She had nothing to do with the Ghostbusters "script", which can hardly be called a script at all. It was more just an outline of the original movie and Feig let them ad-lib every scene. Supposedly it was written by him and some female suit at Sony (I forget what her name was).

Glad to hear that Kristen sounds nice. I haven't seen a ton of her stuff and I never caught anything she did on SNL since I haven't really watched it much since the days of Hartman and Farley.

I have new suggestions for Oscar nominations:

Since I saw "3 Billboards" on Saturday, which I really liked (right up there with Wind River) I've got a few suggestions...........

Frances McDormand - Best Actress
Sam Rockwell - Best Supporting Actor
Woody Harrelson - Best Actor/Supporting Actor (either one would be fine)
Martin McDonagh - Best Screenplay

I know, I already gave my predictions, but after seeing The Shape of Water and Sally Hawkins performance....I just have to add her name to the list and say that come Oscar night I will be torn between McDormand and Hawkins for Best Actress.

Richard Jenkins for Best Supporting Actor.

I believe more than 1 critic has said this is the greatest American movie. And it Is epic.
Yet, it wasn't nominated for any Academy Awards!
When I kept my TV in the house, I used to make myself watch it once a year. But it's
harsh & hard to watch. Yes, there's some comic relief, but inadequate to the dead serious
point of the film.

My only criticism: Henry Brand, a German, plays Scar, the war chief. And I'm sure that
Jay Silverheels wasn't the only red-Indian actor at the time.

Here's a blast from the past:

The Searchers (1956)

Why It Wasn't Nominated: The Searchers was an epic example of a movie in a beloved Hollywood genre (the Western), created by a bigger-than-life Hollywood director (John Ford), and starring an undisputed cinematic titan (John Wayne). It was also a huge box office success. So how was it completely overlooked at the Oscars that year? Well, for one thing, it was a big year for epics, and The King and I, The Ten Commandments, and the horrible eventual winner Around the World in Eighty Days all outgrossed The Searchers. More importantly, The Searchers was actually an independent production — the first film from Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney's short-lived production company — in a time when studio product still reigned supreme.
Why It Should've Been Nominated: With a bleak plot and a dark turn by Wayne, The Searchers is simultaneously the pinnacle of the Hollywood Western form and a deconstruction of the genre — it paved the way for the great anti-Westerns of the 1960s and 1970s. Even better: it's 100 percent Yul Brynner-free!

Wrong, almost wrong. I found only two others

Ned Romero, 1926-2017. Chitimacha N.A. + French & Spanish.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ned_Romero

"Will" Sampson, Jr. (1933 – 1987); now this guy looks Indian; he's Muscokee/Creek
from OK. Costarred in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, & The Outlaw Josey Wales.

Silverheels: (born Harold Preston Smith, May 26, 1912 – March 5, 1980) was a Mohawk
Canadian actor and athlete.

OK. From my infancy almost to 1990, Westerns were Hollywood's stock in trade. The Indians
were mostly white-washed. Notable & great exception is "Last of the Mohicans," 1992.

There's no way they'll give it to Top Gun.

I would have said The Woman King would get best picture, but I think it's now considered racist if you enjoyed that flick.

My suggestion for the Oscars is to just cancel them.

Funny thing though... Remember all that "equity and inclusion" bullshit they were putting on any movie that was going to be nominated for any category at the Oscars that started a few years ago?

Yeah... They've backpedaled on that one. Now those quotas are only required if you're going to submit your movie for Best Picture.
