For me so far, Blade and Passenger 57 come to mind.
As far as it goes, John Cotton in The Green Mile.
D'Jango (Jamie Foxx)
Anthony Sadler as himself, 15:17 to Paris
Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) in Beverly Hills Cop
Danny Roman (Samuel L Jackson) in The Negotiator

Others I've seen or heard of:
Shac
Hancock (Fresh Prince of Godspawn)
Agent J (Fresh Prince of MiB)
Captain Hiller (Fresh Prince of Marine Air Wing, Independence Day)
Black Panther
Foxy Brown
Catwoman incarnations from Eartha Kitt, Halle Berry.
Action Jackson

Not quite the Heroes:
Bill Duke in Predator
Morgan Freeman in Unforgiven
Lt Ed Traxler (Paul Winfield) in Terminator
Philmore Walker (Robert Guillaume) in Wanted: Dead or Alive
Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) in Lethal Weapon

Black Panther may be the only one specifically written for a Black person. Perhaps in comics (black & white) it is more difficult to clearly identify a character as Black?

Others mentioned in this thread:
Luke Cage
Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) on Lucifer
Spawn
Morpheus (Lawrence Fishburne) in Matrix
John Creasy (Denzel) in Man on Fire
Private Trip (Denzel) in Glory
Robert McCall in Equalizer reboot (not the Edward Woodward original incarnation)
Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) in Star Wars

Who are your favorites?

America loves a winner!

Luke Cage, Black Panther & Amenadiel ( Lucifer ) at present.

I actually fell asleep during D'Jango. Everybody I know raved about it and I love pretty much everything by Tarantino, but that movie didn't do anything for me for some reason.

How you gonna diss Murtaugh when Axel Foley is considered a Hero?

Luke Cage actually was always a black man in the comics. And he had a relationship with Jessica Jones as well. That's why when they hooked up in the show it didn't bother me at all since it wasn't some SJW appropriation stunt like they're constantly pulling these days.

I'm pretty sure that Blade and Spawn were also black men in the comics as well, but like I said I'm not really a comic book guy. I loved Blade and Blade 2, but never saw 3. I thought Spawn was freakin' awesome.

I'd have to go with Blade, Spawn and Hancock for super heroes. Axel Foley and Roger Murtach were pretty badass too. I know not everyone really liked Hancock, but that movie really spoke to the cynical asshole in me.

Murtaugh seems more the sidekick or partner, with the hero focus on Riggs.
Foley was the central character. If he wasn't the hero, who in the films was?

Those are everyday heroes. For superheroes I would have to say Black Panther and Blade, and for futuristic hero Morhpeus.

I wonder if Mazikeen (Leslie Ann Brandt) in Lucifer qualifies? As enforcer or protector, she sometimes acts the hero.
I'm not even sure if she is black. Watching Spartacus on DVD lately, so seeing lots of her nekkid scenes. She does steal the scenes when not nekkid, or in head/face close-ups.

Solomon Northup (Chewy) in 12 Years A Slave.

And somehow I forgot Samuel L. Jackson was in Star Wars.

I keep thinking of Sidney Poitier, but was he too cerebral in Mr. Tibbs to be hero?

I generally forget Predator 2, but Danny Glover was in it.

How did we forget Zoe Washburne? I guess I don't think of her, pigeonhole her ad black.
I didn't get the hero vibe from Book. Did Mal have any other War Buddies who were black?

Samuel L. Jackson was not good in the Star Wars prequels. He wasn't bad either. He just was.

It's no wonder you forgot about him in those. IMHO it was his least memorable role. To his credit, I don't think it was any fault of his own. A "family picture" isn't really in his wheelhouse, and I don't think any of the actors had much at all to work with. You could pretty much say the same thing about any one of the top tier acting talent in those movies.

Do Right, Be Right. :)
