Really? I've heard it wasn't as good as Winter Soldier.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I didn't think it was as good as Winter Soldier, or even The First Avenger, but then again, I rarely agree with the consensus.

I got "Aren't these somewhat intelligent people, can't they do a better example than beating each other up with CGI for two hours?"
But then, all we know is gratuitous violence these days...

All I can say is, if you don't think this is the best yet, then you're not paying attention. It speaks back to The First Avenger, has hilarious moments, and ,imo, mirrors the discussion about security vs freedom that's been going on for some time in this country.

And I love, love LOVE Steve Roger's stance on principle. I was afraid it would come off completely artificial, but it doesn't. I got it, though I can see how others might not.

I'm not obligated to agree with you, and I don't, but it's not because I wasn't paying attention.

It's one thing to stand on principle (which I assume all of them were), but another thing entirely to do so at the expense of harming many others in the process.

With great power comes great responsibility. Hardly any of them were acting responsibly.

I think I may be done with the MCU. Not sure why I've kept up, especially now that Joss is no longer involved.

I thought it was great. I understood both sides of the argument and I can make a case for either of them. I think I would side with Ironman personally. That's the only way to deescalate the situation.

Anyway the execution of the whole film was done really well. The dialog was pretty good. Not nearly as forced as Avengers 2. The fight scenes were well choreographed and felt really brutal.

I left wanting more. More Ironman. More Cap. More Spider-man. More Black Panther. More Ant Man. Take my money!

Thank you so much for this post. I was leaning against seeing it, but this changed my opinion.
As usual, I was hoping irondude would die, but in this one I was

Select to view spoiler:

also dismayed that he decided to corrupt the kid as well - otherwise I already assumed he would do any wrong that could be done, and was not surprised at all that he too the unprincipled stance that he did. I was also ticked that Black Widow continued doing wrong even after CA explained why she was wrong - I don't know if she is normally this thick or unprincipled, or her character was just co-opted merely so that irondude would not be the only wrong jackhole.

I will repeat that Rapknight's point about the principles is pertinent, and an excellent reason for the right people doing the right things, and jackhole irondude is merely doing wrong as usual, and supporting Brenda's view that some bozos just want to exercise violence instead of use their heads.
I also enjoyed Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) more than I expected with such a limited or shallow character.

I think Olsen showed how good she is in the Avengers movie. She did so much with very little screen time and sparse script. I think she makes an excellent Wanda (who was
often torn between her loyalty to her brother and Magneto). She was in love with Thunderbolt a mute mutant.

Could you tell I was an avid comic book reader, voracious is the word.

My son took me to see it today (Sunday) and I have to say I kinda liked it. It was funny and entertaining, but a bit too long. I got a little bored with the constant violence; it seemed a bit forced and contrived, but when Spiderman (that kid was quite good) and Ant-Man came into the fray - it perked up my interest. Paul Rudd can make any scene so freaking awesome.

I know what they were trying to do (The director and writers), but it was a bit melo-dramatic for my taste. I really liked Scarlett Johansen and Elizabeth Olsen in this one. And I get what you say about great power and responsibility, although they could have done a better job of conveying that message.

( * ETA - And by ' twin ', I really meant is she Ashley or Mary-Kate !!! )

If you are interested n her work, I cannot really point to Godzilla, other than increasing her Q score.
She did awesome work in Martha Marcy May Marlene. I don't recall much action, more of a Merchant Ivory paced flick, but definitely situated in America. Her performance there made me want to see more, even willing to suffer through Godzilla to see her work.

And for some reason, my mind on ' pretties ', I was really impressed with Morena in Deadpool. Not just to look at either. I loved her character ! I've not caught her in too much since Serenity ... V ? Stargate ? Meh... nice to see her, but that wasn't exactly brilliant writing for her. I thought she really brought it as Vanessa.

Hey JSF,

I agree, she was good in "Martha Marcy May Marlene" but I was really turned on by her in the Avengers movie. Her portrayal of the Scarlet Witch had depth
and she showed a great understanding of the character within the Marvel Universe. I was greatly impressed by her in those movies.

I was really into that when I was a kid and devoured every comic book I could get my hands on. I was into the usual - Superman, Batman, The Flash etc.; then along came Marvel with Spiderman, Thor, Daredevil, X-Men, Ironman,
the Hulk. And then, Sgt. Fury and Shield.

Wow, that brings me back a long ways.

I lost track of my comics back in my twenties. Now they're back with a vengeance.

So I rewatched CA- Civil War again. I think it's the first time since it came out that I really sat down and caught it in one full sitting. Better than I remembered it. Save for the blame game which seems to be going around a lot in - everywhere, Movies and real life. The Avengers weren't the CAUSE of why all those in Sokovia died ( well, more blame could be placed on Stark, and possibly Banner , for tinkering w/ the Mindstone which lead to Ultron... ) but over all, Loki was the cause of invading NY / Earth. Ultron, not The Avengers, were to blame for Sokovia. And Zemo, not the Avengers, were the cause of those Wakandans dying. Had Scarlet Witch NOT moved the explosion away from the ground, all those in the market place would have blown up, as well as Captain America.

Stuff happens. This would be like blaming the Jaegers for the damage the Kaiju caused in Pacific Rim. Sorry, collateral damage happens when bad people are trying to kill civilians and blow things up.

But to the point, about bureaucratic oversight vs complete autonomy and civil liberties, I remain fully on the side of Team Captain America. I didn't dwell on it much at the time, as both Thor and Banner were gone, but what side WOULD have Banner chosen? As Black Widow pointed out to Tony, Banner ( I think he would have likely opted out of the whole thing ) if it came down to it, he's not a big fan of govt authority , so not with Iron Man. Thor ? Not really his fight. Almost certainly would have stayed out entirely.

Now, MY solution would have been something less monolithic , and more like have a 1 person liaison between Avengers and the rest of the world. He'd act kinda like an agent, agreeing to when and where the Avengers would engage, what parameters, etc... , but he'd work out of the U.N. Sort of like agent Coulson , Maria Hill, or Everett K Ross.

( btw - are Sec. State Thaddeus ' Thunderbolt ' Ross and Everett K Ross related ? I know ' Betty ' is the daughter of the SecState , but so far, she's not been a part of the MCU.. )

Right, but Thunderbolt Ross has been played by both Sam Elliot and then William Hurt.

" Betty ", his daughter, hasn't carried over into this version of the MCU yet.

I do find it curious that the Hulk stories with Eric Bana --> Ed Norton --> and now Mark Ruffalo continue w/ General / SecState Ross but don't ( yet ) mention Betty.

Are 2003 and 2008 " Hulk " movies considered part of the MCU ? As I understand it, the " official " MCU context starts w/ Iron Man ( 2008 ) and basically glosses over the prior Hulk movies, despite the fact that William Hurt's version of ' Ross ' appears in both.

As there are so many damn characters, from Defenders ,Guardians, X-Men, SHIELD, and The Avengers, this could get very confusing before too long.

I think the plan is to keep 'TV' and 'Cinema ' story lines as distant and separate as possible, though with vague references tossed in, as needed.

* ETA - Despite Hulk being played by Ed Norton in '08, that Hulk's story is found in the later MCU version of Hulk, so for continuity , Ed Norton = Mark Ruffalo, and Eric Bana gets left out the cold.

So ' Betty ' , could still appear and make things awkward for Bruce and Natasha.

I've rewatched it plenty of times. Probably my favorite MCU movie so far. I'm on team Tony though. I mean I don't like the government oversight, but I think he's right in saying that if they didn't do it then it would be done to them. If they don't get in on the ground floor and play ball then they'd end up at war with the governments of the world. They can't help anyone if they can't even setup a base of operations. Granted it was convenient that they met Black Panther and could setup a base in wakanda by the end of the movie, but Tony didn't have that option at the time.

As for Betty I've read there are rumors that she might be in one of the next two Avengers movies. So, I think she still does exist in the MCU from the Incredible Hulk movie. It's also a slight nod to her existence that Tony calls the Hulk Buster armor Veronica. It's kinda the anti-Betty which would be Veronica if we're talking Archie Comics.
