The star of the "Smokey and the Bandit" series and "Cannonball Run" among other films died yesterday.

He also worked in "Gunsmoke" way back in the black and white days. Played a blacksmith.

Bummer. Loved him as a recurring character on Archer.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Sorry Brenda, I posted his passing in General Discussions before I saw your post here.

I remember watching a detective show called Hawk. He played a Native American
cop investigating crimes in NY City, circa 1966 (I was 3 years old, lol).

RIP Burt Reynolds

Burt was part Native American, was he not?

Yes, he was. He was part Seminole. They are from the state of Florida

No worries SGG. I put this here because people missed it in "Tag It".

*L* I'm too young to remember or have watched when he was on Gunsmoke. But I've seen some clips and such on YouTube. Gunsmoke came on the air in the late 50s, I think. It had been a radio show before that.

Watched "Smokey and the Bandit" the other day. Good fun. Of course, not many people use CBs anymore, but I remember the CB craze.

Then I watched "Smokey and the Bandit II." Other than a couple of great scenes, it was awful.

Then, that was Burt. He made some great movies, and more than a few turkeys.

I remember the CB craze. That happened when I was in high school. A friend's dad had one and was part of a group too.

You are right the true "Smokey and the Bandit" was good fun but the others sucked.

You're right RF, Smokey and the Bandit was soooo much fun and a bonafide hit
back in the day. Smokey II was awful. Cannonball Run, Hooper and The End were
the last of it's breed (I really enjoyed the zaniness of Dom DeLuise).

RIP Bandit

Yeah. Dom was one of those guys who cracked me up, whatever he did. Just a naturally funny guy.

Fun fact: Smokey and the Bandit was the #2 money maker in 1977, beat only by Star Wars.

I still have some CB radios. They are useful for road trips, but other than truckers, not a lot of people still use them.

Yeah, I doubt the group my friend's parents were with is still running.

I recall that the following year Pontiac Trans Ams had a record year of sales. Butt was promised a gift of a new one. But GM reneged on the promise, he never got one. Ungrateful SOBs.
