SHINYGOODGUY

I'm going to come right out and say it: I loved this movie. Based on a true story, about a piano virtuoso who hires a driver to take him on a tour of the South.

But, as the trailer shows, the pianist is black and the driver is white. Here's a description from Wikipedia:

Quote:

An Italian-American bouncer and an African-American pianist confront racism and danger while taking a road trip through the Deep South in 1962.

I know, it's a simplistic description, but this story is far from simple and it's well written, and a well-told story. You may think it's a predictable
story about prejudice in the deep south, and yes there's that, but there's some twists and turns that you may not see coming. An interesting dynamic develops between the two characters that you just have to experience. It brings out some truths that people may not want to hear, but that serves the story well.

It was poignant, but funny, with really solid performances by the two male leads Viggo Mortensen, who plays Tony "Lip," the driver and Mahershala Ali, who is the brilliant pianist Dr. Donald Shirley. Both play off of each other
so smoothly, like two jazz musicians riffing during a musical interlude. And, although it's a serious subject matter, racism, the movie proved to be funny as well as dynamic. If for nothing else, go and see this movie to watch two pros at work. Both Mortensen and Ali will most likely be nominated for lead actor in a drama. It will be interesting come Golden Globe and Oscar time.

I give this movie 5 out of 5 Stars...excellent!
