I liked that line as well.......

"I do not stand by in the presence of evil."

It was almost Star Wars like. It was a warrior taking a stand and preparing for battle. What I most liked about Alita was Salazar's performance. She gave me the impression that she could have made a fantastic Jedi Knight. She spoke,
in the beginning of the film, like a wide-eyed teenager, a new born, discovering the world around her.

Then, after she followed Ido, and her first encounter with evil, she transformed into "warrior" mode. Her speech, poster and demeanor transformed
along with her attitude. You felt her instinct kick in. It was both subtle and sudden. Until that moment I don't think Ido realized what he found in the trash heap. But that's the beauty of this movie, there's so much to learn.
Was Ido really unaware? Or was he hoping to "revive" his daughter Alita?

I so want to buy the manga, but I want that sequel so badly. I suspect that there will be one (it's due to stay in China for another two weeks). The DVD and Blu Ray sales will help push that along.

My other favorite line by Alita is when she tells Zapan: "You do not deserve such a weapon." Referring to Zapan wielding the Damascus Blade.

By the way, I've seen it 3 times and I almost went a fourth time. I can't wait for the Blu-ray. This will become another Cameron classic - like Terminator and Aliens. This can only get better.

Maybe that's because everybody saw it more than once. Is that it? I only saw it twice so far.

What was your favorite scene? Or line?

Mine might be "I do not stand by in the presence of Evil"

Quietly, Alita crossed over the 400,000 mark, despite not just 1 but 2 revisions that drew its numbers down.

That's significant because that is the number which it was said was needed to be reached in order for a sequel to be made.

Welp, fans did their part.

I finally figured out you likely meant "Posture" there.

At this point I am wondering if Ido was fully unaware of her design, or if had suspected, but was fully surprised to see the legendary rumor in action - something a few hundred years before his time.

At least there probably won't be a live action version of Aladdin 2: Aladdin The Return Of Jafar [1994]. But there is pretty good chance for Alita 2.

There was 6 years between when the manga version of Battle Angel Alita began and the manga ended. It is worth waiting years for the ending of the movie version of Battle Angel Alita #2 to learn how Alita gets revenge against Nova and why there was a war between Earth and Mars.

With all those years to plan how the manga ends, the end was even better than the beginning, so the movie version of the ending can be better and, most importantly if it’s going to filmed at all, earn more money than the movie version of the beginning.

How can a movie improve on the manga? In the manga, Alita’s name came from Ido’s dead cat, a very peculiar storytelling choice, while in the movie, Alita was the name of Ido’s dead daughter, a superior storytelling choice. There are many more examples.
https://battleangel.fandom.com/wiki/Alita_(cat)

I expect the movie version of how Alita’s story ends will be superior to the manga ending and that ending was very good indeed.

The manga (skip over volume 2-8 and go directly to the ending in volume 9):

That's cool. All I was hearing back when Captain Marvel came out was that there was almost zero chance of an Alita sequel.

What changed the story here? Did the international box office save the day, or was it the repeat viewings from the fans keeping it in theaters longer than usual?

I changed my opinion about Alita #2 when I looked at the box office: Alita is #7 in ticket sales for the whole world. And looking at the manga story convinced me that the movie Alita #2 would make even more money than Alita #1. If I was bankrolling Alita #2, which would be made in Texas like Alita #1, I would feel confident I will make a big profit.

I suspect many parents took their kids, because of #Nostalgia, as the parents grew up on the animated movie.

I never saw the early 90's version, w/ Robin Williams, but many did marvel at his ( animated ) performance. Hard for the likes of Will Smith to compete, obviously.

Good for Alita doing so well world wide. I'd very much like to see a sequel. I think she deserves it.

Other than Hugo getting crushed shoulder and then climbing buildings.

I think a lot of the backstory is implied, but not yet spelled out.

I did not consider a flaw to be the blossoming relationship between a teenage boy and a Triple Centurian girl.

I just realized another thing. I had assumed the Law Keepers were named Senturians. But maybe they were Centurians. How ironic.

The flaw that I refer to in my pocket review is not that these two fall in love; it's has to do with the execution within the movie Jewels. Salazar was so damn believable depicting an innocence and vulnerability that older actresses struggle with.

The actor playing "Hugo" was not up to the challenge, and so, IMHO, failed to convince me that he "was" in love with Alita. Salazar became Alita, while he was acting like he was in love. She was in love with him. That's how good she was. So when I talk about flaws, no matter how minor, that's what I meant.
Ultimately, it did not ruin the movie for me. I was riveted by Salazar's performance. Will it win an Oscar, of course not. But she was so good that I fell in love with her. That's when you know that something good has taken place. I refer to her as "Ripley-like." Her mission was to protect the boy she loved...I got that from her. Very convincingly.

I want to see it again, this time in IMAX.

SGG

Did you see Salazar in Bird Box?

By the way, Happy Birthday to Rosa.
As well as Phoebe Cates, AnnaLynne McCord, Jayma Mays.

'Alita: Battle Angel' 4K Blu-ray Review: Manganificent?
www.forbes.com/sites/johnarcher/2019/07/20/alita-battle-angel-4k-blu-r

So a funny thing happened to me when I watched Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron’s Manga-inspired Alita: Battle Angel for a second time (having seen it first at the cinema). Rather than all of its flaws - and it certainly does have flaws - becoming more exaggerated and obvious, as I might have expected, they kind of… melted away.

The rushed, jumpy last third. The occasional cheesy line. Ed Skrein’s rather hammy British villain. The feeling that you’re watching three films being uncomfortably, almost wastefully crammed into one… All these issues and more somehow no longer seemed nearly as distracting second time round.

Instead I found myself irresistibly drawn into Alita’s futuristic world much more than I was the first time round. This time I was much more seduced by the consistently incredible visuals; the lovingly crafted and genuinely original-feeling world; the magnificence of Rosa Salazar’s motion-captured performance; the way the narrative manages to weave in various classic character, sci-fi, mystery and underdog archetypes without feeling too predictable; and the sheer filmmaking ambition that seems to lie behind every gorgeously rendered frame.

. . .

Alita will never miraculously turn into a perfect film, no matter how much you might want it to, and no matter how many times you watch it on this frequently gorgeous 4K Blu-ray. But for me, at least, the more I see of it, the more of a work of art it starts to feel - and the more I find myself hoping they get the green light to do a sequel.

. . .

Perhaps the single most effective thing about the 4K Blu-ray’s images, though, is that they somehow make Alita feel much more like a real part of the world than a CGI effect.

On the surface this seems counter-intuitive. Past experience would suggest that the extra detail, purity and contrast of 4K Blu-ray can make digital effects look less rather than more realistic. Here, though, it’s as if the extra color and light range available with 4K Blu-ray mastering gave the filmmakers more opportunity to better blend her CGI appearance into her ‘real’ surroundings. And there’s no overstating how important this is to how much you engage with Alita’s character.

There's Already An Alita: Battle Angel Prequel

The motion comic "The Fall" tells the story of the eponymous conflict that plays so heavily into the world of Alita: Battle Angel. While we get snippets of just why this conflict is so important throughout the film’s events, a condensed history of the conflict is provided through The Fall’s six-minute running time.

The current state of Alita: Battle Angel teases just enough about The Fall that the audience knows how important it was and what it did to humanity, but still leaves a lot of that history untold and ready for future films. Should the Disney/Fox studio family want to move forward with more action in Alita’s world, it could easily use the content shown in "The Fall" as flashback scenes in a potential Alita: Battle Angel sequel. In an even more ambitious light, an entire prequel film could be made about Yoko’s life before becoming Alita.

Since Robert Rodriguez did a huge re-write on James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis’ 600-page script for Alita, it’s to be assumed that a lot of the information from "The Fall" motion comic was stripped from that approximately 600 minute, ten hour long, original concept.
