Okay, I just finished watching this dreck last night. I don't know who wrote this but it only had slight moments of adultness in it the rest felt like it had been written by a teenage boy.

Now, I will admit that I've never been much on DC, much prefer Marvel. And yes I had a couple of Aquaman comics as a kid. The story line of "Aquababy" being kidnapped by Black Mantis did happen in the comics and I had that one but I don't remember what the full story line was now.

Apologize for a new thread but I couldn't find Jack's original one.

Posting so you are not here alone Brenda. I've never been a fan of Aquaman.

Yeah... That's what most of them have devolved to now. Has there even been a comic book movie that anyone has taken seriously since Avengers: End Game?

The only one that I can think of is Spider-Man: No Way Home, and that was a once in a generation type of thing with all those nostalgia berries.

No worries THG. I had a couple of the Aquaman comics in my collection years ago when I first started collecting but I never got into it. It was just something to read but never spoke to me, unlike the X-Men and Wolverine.

Saw "Avengers: End Game" and it was okay but then I am not a big Avengers fan.

I have never seen a Spiderman movie as I don't like Spiderman.

I haven't either, and I also was not a fan.

Fair enough.

I only mentioned it because it's the only comic book movie since they shut down theaters for Covid that made over a Billion like almost all of them did in the "good old days".

And even though I actually thought it had good writing and a pretty unique premise compared to most comic book movies out there, they managed to cram in 3 living Spider-Men actors spanning 2 or arguably even 3 different generations and a lot of the villains from those original casts also made appearances even.

It really was more of an Event than a Movie. This is just something that can't be done again, at least on this level and/or at least until another 20 or so years passes. The fact that there's no way that they planned for this from the beginning and it worked out as well as it did has to owe part of its success to luck on top of it.

Oh, I see. Still doesn't make me want to see a Spiderman movie.

I only just sort of sat through the original Spiderman cartoon that ran when I was 7 or 8 years old. Then I much preferred The Fantastic Four with Ben Grimm being my favourite.

Hehe.

Not trying to sell it to you. You'd have to sit through about 9 Spider-Man movies as homework to get the whole experience, and I don't imagine it would be the same for you anyway since you didn't watch the original Toby McGuire movies when they came out and have fond memories of them.

You couldn't get me to watch most of the comic book movies either.

Although they have come a long way since those cartoons.

No worries.

I know there have been a lot of Spiderman movies. But unless I am really interested yeah, not going to bother.

I remember when those came out. Think my brother might have seen the first one not sure about the others.

Full disclaimer... I've never seen Spider-Man 3 with Toby McGuire myself. And then I never watched a single movie out of the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies. (And I also only watched the prior Tom Holland Spider-Man movies with my dad and/or brother AFTER I saw No Way Home).

So the full nostalgia feeling was muted for me. I just got a kick out of seeing old Toby McGuire reprising the role and how he worked with 2 other Spider-Men from parallel universes who got their powers in different ways and also had slightly different powers. The scenes between the three of them were really great. And seeing Green Goblin from the first Spider-Man and Doc. Ock from Spider-Man 2 reprising their roles was a treat too.

*I know you're not interested in watching it, but spoilers below this point just in case.*

It was a great story. The most important thing was that they stuck the landing. They could have very easily used Dr. Strange's magic powers to reset everything and bring dead people back to life. They could have figured out a nice easy way to win where Peter didn't have to give up all of his relationships with family and friends to solve the problem he created. But they didn't chicken out. And now Peter Parker lives in a world where nobody knows that he even exists. Not even his girlfriend and his best friend.

And I'm REALLY hoping that in the future they don't use some magical McGuffin to reset all of this and Peter continues to navigate this new world he created for himself. This is one of the very few comic book movies that ended with actual lasting consequences of the protagonist's ill-advised and selfish actions, and it's the reason that it's one of the only comic book movies that actually meant anything.

I really got vibes from the ending of the TV show "Chuck" during the last 15 minutes of this movie, and that's a REALLY good thing. It was emotional. Watching him go into a diner where his girlfriend and best friend were and awkwardly finding a way to start a conversation with them because they have no idea who he is while he knows so much about both of them was heartbreaking, but done in a way where it was also hopeful. You could tell he was probing for just a little hint that deep down either of them still had some memory of what used to be... not finding it... but realizing that they're otherwise the same people he used to know and care about, and who knew and cared about him, and that he is determined to find a way to bring them back into his new life. You really left with a sense that, one way or another, Peter was capable of making everything work out in the end.

Peter lost everything he cared about, and he is singularly to blame for that in the end, yet he still goes on. Now being without a family and homeless, he gets his own apartment. One of the few things you see him bringing to it is his school books, signifying that he's not going to let any of this keep him from learning. And then he crafts what amounts to a a cosplay version of his superpowered nano-tech Spider-Man suit that he was gifted by Tony Stark in one of the previous films.

The movie ends as he suits up and slings himself out the window, ready to fight the bad guys while the dramatic music amps up and the credits begin to roll.

...

It was all so perfect that I'm as equally excited about the prospect of a follow up movie as I am filled with dread that there's no possible way they don't make a sequel to it after how much money it made. I may choose to never watch a follow up to the movie and just let my imagination determine how the story ends in my own mind.

It wouldn't be the first time I've done that. I wish I'd done that with The Matrix and never watched anything after the first movie.
