Drinker's Chasers - The Last Of Us Season 2's Impossible Situation

Quote:

If it follows the plot of the game, most people will hate Season 2 of The Last Of Us. On the other hand, if it doesn't follow the plot of the game, it'll mean admitting the game was terrible. What is Neil Druckmann to do?

I've been saying that for a long time now.

TLO2 got straight 10/10 ratings from EVERY USAID-funded video game magazine when it came out, and gamers hated it.

What to do, what to do?

You watch any of those, Jaynez?

I saw the first one and liked it. Was still going to theaters when the 2nd one came out and meant to see it after catching a trailer at another flick, but never got around to it and never saw any of the sequels.

They worth watching?

Final Destination I watched 1 and 2 I think Final Destination 2 I remember them being out around 911 time just before and after maybe 2000-2003 then everyone was playing a DVD on their Laptop or Video Game, I didnt catch them in cinema I think was busy with work or girlfriends or something...then you get girlfriends who wont watch horror... maybe I sneakily watched 3 instead of 2 when a girlfriend was with her mother or something

I remember We were bombarded in parts of the world with this yellow orange red terror alerts, North Korea is testing a missile Yellow Alert! a terrorist corssed the Mexico border Alert!...then over the yeasr we got numb. I think they were the exact thing needed after 911 not to censor it all and just entertainment and 'jump scare'
the Death thing was like an entity floating around like an unseen ghost
I think the movies got very same-ish but the early ones were good, I don't think I watched 3 or if I watched 3 instead of 2 I didnt watch beyond Final Destination 3
Ali Larter from Heroes was in it and Tony Todd the Horror guy did he also do scifi I think he was a Klingon in Star Trek and think he's dead now? the ghostly Death thing was Galactic it had a ghostly plan predestined to happen, but somehow Death got tricked, it still chases them for a while but they fool death for a while and something is given up?
It was horror but it had no bad guy no villain just very Supernatural or Wayist or something. I think there was a girl who had a dream or vision or something Nostradamus stuff to avoid death or a boy who would feel something coming, I heard it was an X-Files episode that never got made so instead became a movie...I'm not sure of the same Production Companies / Pictures still exist but back then you had lots of indie studios and indie music labels before Sony or WB/ DC and Disney / Marvel ate them all.
I would probably over analyze them a little today, like forgetting how to just enjoy a film maybe been around with too many of those writer, film maker wannabe, music types of people since and some of their 'arty' skills maybe rubbed off on me so I can think too much at times about the 'Art' or artform of film...or maybe films just suck now and I like the ones where there wasn't always a wall of political messages broadcast at you. Japan and SKorea horror was also becoming a big thing at this time, the Ringu, A Tale of Two Sisters 2003, Korean 'Phone' the arrival of the new South Korea Asian wave of cinema and pop culture.

I think its all better watched film in cinema, phones switched off and its just more 'closer' to the performance less noise or distraction in the real world unless youre one of those rich person critics BruceWayne old money freaks with a Mansion and your own cinema in your house then you can do what you want...for normal people the movies are probably best watched in the theater with the big screen
Good movies and the Budget was like $16 million or something

and horror?

Haha... yeah. Girlfriends and horror movies, huh? Takes all types though.

The only movie I've ever walked out on in the theater was James Wood's Vampire's movie. I was loving that movie so much. That action in that intro. I was there for it.

... Until I wasn't.

Ya see... my girlfriend and her college friend, 5 minutes into the movie, all the sudden developed an allergy to vampires, which pretty much meant I was allergic to vampires now too.

It was probably a few years later I first saw it in full on a crappy tube TV and always thought it was a shame I didn't see it in the theater. But then again, I probably wouldn't remember the movie so much today if all that other stuff weren't all intermingled with it.

A few years later I was dating this odd little borderline would have been a "goth" girl but I met her completely normal suburban 2-parent family and they were somehow managing to rein that in still, at least until she was done with community college. Not usually my type at all, but the most persistent woman I'd ever been with in my life, and on most days it was almost as much fun as would be necessary to deal with all the crazy that came along with it.

Now that girl... She would have LOVED going with me to see Vampires.

Yeah... I know the general premise of Final Destination.... or at least I think I do since I saw the first movie and enjoyed it. I won't say I remember any single individual scenes outside of the one guy getting killed inside of the bathroom by the water which was awesome.... Didn't somebody die by some part of a building swinging down on them right at the last second of the movie too???

I'm wondering how much they kept up with the lore as the series went on or if they were always just retconning everything because they were too lazy to bother writing a story that made any sense in this universe that was established in the first movie.

Yeah... I know exactly what you mean about being too analytical now and not enjoying it as much.

I'm 100% with you on seeing certain things in the theater though. If going to the movies still excited me and/or didn't cost a fortune, I'd probably watch a lot more of them than I do today. I saw that first one in the theater and I know it was a better experience than I would have had at home. Same thing when I saw The Ring twice in theaters a few years later.

So you don't think you saw 3, huh? Heh... yeah. Even if I actually did get around to ever seeing 2 I probably would have tapped out after that too.

... Back to the "being over-analytical" topic...

The last two movies I've now seen with my dad are Pulp Fiction and Snatch. He'd never seen either, and I'd seen both quite a few times... although it had been at least 15 years since I'd seen either of them.

But I remember just how weird it was watching them now. It didn't have anything to do with my dad being there watching them with me... like being worried if he was going to like them or not. I know what his tastes are in relation to mine and have a good idea of which things I would enjoy watching that he wouldn't, which would be a pretty small list outside of him enjoying sports. Pulp Fiction was his request, and when I picked Snatch he had no qualms about watching the first US movie starring Jason Stathem, even if he wasn't the front and center action star that he'd grown accustomed to seeing.

So we watched them, and my old man thought they were great... I still recognized both movies as good movies, but for the most part I wasn't immersed in them at all as the plots were moving along.

From time to time maybe I was fading a little into their world, but it always felt so small and like everything happening in these stories were just happening in the little bubble they existed in and not the real world.

I don't know. It's hard to explain. I always had a great imagination and loved reading books and just that feeling when you realize you just lost yourself for 3 hours reading pages and forgetting that you were reading something because you were living it.

When I first saw Pulp Fiction and Snatch in my early 20's I had near zero problems falling right into that state of mind when an engaging movie like either of those was playing. Their world felt alive. In the case of Snatch, it was all happening internationally. You had not just the events mostly taking place in the UK where the movie starts, but now through Dennis Farina's character you've brought my country into the movie too and suddenly that's all linked together. So now I'm here, where these small events are happening in this big, thriving world full of everyone I know and will never know, including me.

I just seem to have lost that ability with movies and TV shows now. At least most of them. I wouldn't have written so much about Dark Matter if I wasn't able to do it at least to some degree there. Or Fallout either. I think the biggest reason I prefer sci-fi to almost any other genre is because I almost need that ridiculous premise the show or movie is built around in order to suspend my disbelief these days. I just don't feel like most people making movies and TV shows today are anywhere near talented enough to write and produce a story that takes place in real life and actually feels like real life does.

But watching Pulp Fiction and Snatch in 2025 was so different. I wasn't there with any of those characters and never felt like any of that was happening or even could happen in my world. It was like watching well-trained ants putting on a show in an ant farm when I watched them this time. Funny stuff still made me laugh and I had a good time watching them with my dad, but everything just felt like set pieces.

Weird...
