Just finished watching it last night and I found it to be interesting. We finally get to see a young Predator and learn their species and hear their language.

With certain things Brenda, I prefer the mystery. I think Predator is one of them... along with the Alien franchise.

I know I'm a grown up now and I shouldn't think that an imaginary space monster is scary anyhow, but that first predator movie and the first two aliens movies terrified me and my younger bro when we were way too young to be staying up watching cable TV alone and with our friends unsupervised. It ain't like my old man would have stopped us anyway... I watched movies like The Thing with him when I was 5 years old, just like he watched The Twilight Zone with his mom at that age. First time I saw aliens I was 6 with my mom. I remember she had to rub my belly so I could go to sleep that night because I was afraid an alien was going to pop out of my stomach and I needed her to tell me that she didn't feel anything moving.

Personally, I think we know way too much about the Predators and the Aliens now. Not just them... but almost anything under the sun that I used to love as a kid except for maybe Back to the Future and Ghostbusters. Thank God for Robert Zemeckis and Bill Murray.

Predator... Aliens... None of it is scary anymore. It's just something completely different now. We know the name of the race of beings and there's all this added lore that the original writers never intended. And sometimes the story doesn't get all messed up because of copyright shuffling.. like with the Terminator franchise. The original writer and director comes back and starts telling stories that were nowhere near their own original intentions when they wrote the things in their own youth when they had a much different perspective on the world. For over 20 years, John Connor was the bright shiny center of that universe. Mankind went extinct if he never did whatever it was he was supposed to do. But then all the sudden... BAM!

Oh... John Connor is dead? Yeah. That's fine. He didn't matter.

George Lucas comes back in the early 2000's and tells us that the Spiritual Jedi story that we all grew up watching and loving was nothing but a mutation in our mitochondria.

Then Disney buys up Lucasfilm, throws away all of Georges other ideas, destroys the expanded fan-fic universe that was decades in the making, and they use that one little mitochondria bit he threw in there to tell the story about super-human Rey who just happened to be born with a stronger mutation than anybody before her. She's just super good at everything she ever tries because she's a super perfect being. Training is unnecessary. She just found out yesterday she's special and she's Force Healing... something that none of the great heroes who preceded her had ever done or ever once mentioned could even be done before. Force Healing sure is something that could have come in super handy on at least one occasion I can think of that would have prevented the entire Star Wars from staring in the first place.

With Disney Star Wars, there's no need for The Hero's Journey. For Rey to suffer any losses. For her to have moments that she can learn from and grow. She doesn't ever need to make a sacrifice because everything will always work out in the end. She didn't earn it. She was already perfect before the camera started rolling. It's all in her mitochondria.

Rey just didn't know she was perfect yet. That was her only flaw. The ignorance of her greatness. Not because of anything she did on her own, but because she won the genetic lottery.

And they trashed the entire original story and all the heroes with what they added. The new back-story that told us even more about how all of this works.

George Lucas didn't just downgrade and relegate the Spirituality of the Jedi into the shadows when he gave it all a scientific explanation. He literally sucked the soul right out of the franchise. And then he put his creation in the hands of the worst caretakers possible out of a very long list of terrible caretakers who could have gotten their hands on it.

And now we've got a planet of gay space witches in Star Wars who spend the entire single season trying to make you think that the Jedi Order were the bad guys because now we have more "history".

I don't find the sci-fi to be profound. I don't find the horror to be scary. I don't find the comedy to be funny. I don't find the triumphant to be invigorating. I don't find the hero to be relatable.

It's all slop now. Human slop. It won't be hard for AI to take over writing and directing these movies because we already put out so much slop.

Sorry, Brenda.

I'm sure the movie was fine.

I'm just having a Cypher moment.

Just give me the damn blue pill and put me back into the Matrix.
