I had to actually think about the name again before I remembered it was Shelter. I guess it came out back in January. I wouldn't have ever even heard of it if my old man hadn't mentioned it. I really haven't been paying too much attention to movies in years other than a few big ones that are pretty much unavoidable.

I've never seen a Stathem movie I didn't like, but then again after a few earlier ones back when Snatch was made, I've probably only seen maybe 4. I am pretty sure that I've never even seen a Transporter movie.

Out of those that I have seen, The Beekeeper, as far as I'm concerned is the Gold Standard for Stathem movies. If somebody wanted to watch that with me tonight, I'd be down to watch it a second time.

Shelter was a bit of comfort food. You know it's not going to be bad, but you're probably going to hope for better than this. Not that it was close to bad...

It was interesting enough and had just enough action in between the quiet parts. Fairly high stakes and tension throughout, although you are kept largely in the dark about anything that's going on for much longer in this type of movie than you think you would be. I'm not complaining about that fact, but I'm not going to go so far as to praise it either because I didn't feel a lot of it was executed very well. I almost feel as if they hid a lot from you up until the last part of the movie just to keep you guessing and feeling extra tension by not knowing this stuff yourself. I don't know. I just feel like everything was this big mystery and then things just happened because the run time was getting short and they needed to happen.

Like my McDonald's Fries were a delivery vehicle for ketchup when I was a kid, this somewhat interesting plot never really breaks out into anything and is just a pretty lazy delivery vehicle for fallen angel Stathem to have a redemption arc fall right into his lap that forces him to find the will to carry on and do the right thing while kicking a little bit of ass along the way. Sadly, I think, a bit less ass kicking than usual though. I'm not going to give Stathem any crap for phoning this movie in, but I will say that it looked like it was cold, and there isn't any scenes where he's taking off his shirt and showing them muscles off. Not saying he was fat. Just suggesting that if he put a ton of effort into getting into shape for this role, a lot of that was probably wasted effort outside workouts he's probably very happy to still be doing at his age.

If you love Jason Stathem, you will like the movie. If you don't care for him, there's nothing here for you at all. No offence to the actress who plays the girl. She was very good and very believable. I hope she gets or already has had some good roles and they keep coming her way. But nobody is going to see Shelter for the kid's performance.

I'm really hoping Jason took care of business in his real life and doesn't need to do this forever like some of the other guys had backed themselves into and that he's still enjoying it.

Either that, or somebody take a chance on him and put him in something different than a "Stathem" Movie. I know he's a good actor. But he's been so pigeonholed for so long now, I just don't want to see him go out like Steven Segal or something. He ain't close to being there yet, but 10 or 15 years seems to come real quick these days.

Somebody give this man a real role please.

Thank you.

I like Jason Stathem since I saw Snatch, which was hilarious.

Haven't seen Shelter yet. I keep forgetting to look for it at my local library.

Know he was in the first couple of Expendable movies.

Yeah! I saw Snatch probably 10 times with family and friends back in the day. I saw it with one of my buddies and we liked it so much. I bought the VHS tape immediately and showed it to whoever wanted to watch it.

Then I hadn't seen it in forever and watched it with my Dad a little while ago. Different feeling. I hate that. I know the movie didn't change at all. I did. I still really liked it and so did he, but I took another thing I had really fond memories of from my youth and pulled it into the future and I kinda wish I hadn't.

I really got to remember to stop doing that.

If you like Stathem, you'll like the movie. None of this was really a complaint, other than I'd like to see him get better roles than this in the future. I'm just worried if he does too many of these in a row he's basically chasing Liem Neison down the the Taken rabbit hole into RedBox/Netflix obscurity.

I'm pretty sure my Step-Dad got me to watch the first Expendabiles before, but I was still drinking heavily back then and I can't remember for sure. Have no idea of the plot if I did, and that's funny because when this movie was done I said to my Dad, "Like most Jason Stathem movies, I enjoyed it in the moment, but don't ask me what it was about 2 weeks from now".

Did you see Crank? Not my favorite, but a lot of other folk did really like it.

As long as he is getting paid and enjoys it, I hope he keeps giving us more of the same.

I liked Beekeeper a lot. But for me, the Gold Standard really is Transporter. Plus the whole franchise.
But you might check out Spy, if you haven't yet.

2023 only had 4 releases, tying 2013, 2011, 2005. Of those years, another release was in Jan of '24 and Feb of '06.

I should go back and watch the Trasporter stuff. I'm sure my old man would watch all of them again. He's probably seen at least the first few more than once.

Maybe I've only seen 4 of his movies including Snatch.

Yeah... Wow.

Snatch, "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels", The Beekeeper and Shelter.

Nope... looks like the Death Race remake and Ghosts of Mars too. And I'm pretty sure I've seen at least the first expendables movie.

That might be it.

Your dad should enjoy Italian Job, Parker, Safe, Bank Job, Mechanic remake - and sequel, Blitz, Killer Elite, Wild Card, Wrath of Man, Working Man. Plus others I can't recall. Skip Ewe Boll.

Think I've seen Snatch twice but each time I loved it.

Well, with Liam Neeson I think age is catching up with him. Even in "Tulsa King" Stallone is slowing down. He does a lot of talking and picking up a gun. But the fight scenes are less. I've seen one of the Taken and it was okay but yeah.

The Expendables is about a bunch of ex-military who get called in by shady government times to go into countries and get people out or kill the leaders. The group was Stallone, Jet Li, Strathem, Dolph Lundgren and maybe one other but I can't remember him and I would have to look at the DVD. Think I have the first two but after that.

In one of them Chuck Norris showed up after blowing up a truck for them. Stallone asks him to join him and he says, "No. He's a lone wolf" Refeering to one of his movies. The shady government guys were played by Bruce Willis and the Govenator Arnold Shwartzenagger.

Not sure if I seen the Transporter movies. Saw Beekeeper and wasn't impressed. Saw Megladon and they were okay in a campy way. There were 2 of those.

It wouldn't surprise me if he's seen all of them (except Ewe Boll), but thanks for the list.

That Uwe Boll movie was pretty bad, wasn't it.
