Okay, here's the disclaimer part: I am NOT a fan, but somehow my niece talked me into going (she has a friend who is Sofia Vergara-sexy and I went to see if I could convince her that older men are sexy, lol).

First, my niece forewarned me not to hit on her friend, so now thats out of the way. We went in a group of about 8, of which 5 were of the female persuasion. I would say that about 75% of the audience was female, and they were out of control. The moment the lights dimmed and the first of several previews started, they were in full throat hollering, screaming and whooping up a storm - all this for the trailers! Many shouted out the movie's name - Breaking Dawn, as if no one knew where they were - it was hilarious. Giddiness abounded throughout the theatre, so much so that the usher had to come in and shush them. Needless to say my niece's husband and I got a kick out of the reaction. Also needless to say, I was dreading having to sit through the teenybopper saga; but, I must say, there were a number of women in there that were not teenaged girls. The estrogen level was palpable.

I'm not going to give away any of the plot and story because there may be some folk out there that may want to see for themselves. I mentioned in the thread title that this movie was fun and funny. From the opening scene the tone was set; they both establish the storyline, got a laugh, and made several of the mostly-female audience swoon - all within the first 30 seconds. Not bad, I thought. The movie managed to poke fun at itself with a running gag and, at the same time, get the Twi-Hards worked up - on purpose! There were several scenes like that one where the director/producers wisely chose to liberally sprinkle in humor among the more cheesier "dramatic" scenes. The laughs were both intentional and unintentional. There is a scene with a four-poster bed that was quite clever in it's set up and delivery (intentional); but later in the movie, in a pivotal dramatic scene, they totally destroyed the emotion with an unfortunate CGI fiasco. It actual got the biggest laugh of the night (unintentional). There was a scene with a pack of wolves that was almost laughable, but those were few and far in between. Director Bill Condon made the right call in keeping this installment of the series light and airy, keeping the "cheese" to a minimum and infusing enough light humor to engage even the most hate-filled non fan. The other thing that I found to be another interesting feat was how well paced the movie was.

It clocked in at just under 2 hours (115 minutes) but that was not the whole story, the plot and storyline moved along at a nice even pace that proved not to be boring to the casual moviegoer. The acting was predictable - Stewart and Pattinson had decent chemistry, but Taylor Lautner needs to take some more lessons (actually lots of lessons). The rest of the cast was serviceable, but, IMHO, they should have had more scenes with Anna Kendrick - I absolutely love her, she's so hilarious (she was also quite good in 50-50). For my money, give me more of her. Of course, this teen angst juggernaut will set box office records on rep alone, but I had a good time at the movies - between the movie's own gags and well-set up funny moments, and making fun of the cheesier ones. I would not have guessed in a million years that I would be saying this about any movie with the word Twilight in it.

So if you have a die-hard fan in your household, a friend or significant other, don't feel too bad if they drag you kicking and screaming to the theatre - you just might have a good time.

May I point out that you went to a movie intended for fans of vampire romance? If anything the problem here is that your competition is hundreds of years old.
