I think this poll is B.S. and a stunt, plus Laurie and Oldman are both to old for the part.

YELLOWJACKET

William Henry Hartnell was 55 when he played the first Doctor Who. Oldman is 53 and Laurie is 52.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

That would actually be pretty awesome. I <3 Matt Smith, but I could accept him being replaced by Hugh Laurie. (though he has been getting younger and younger in each regeneration, that doesn't mean he has to.)
It would be fun to see him doing British comedy again.

(I must point out that the name of the character is not "Doctor Who," it's just the Doctor.)

What reason had proved best ceased to look absurd to the eye, which shows how idle it is to think anything ridiculous except what is wrong.

this poll is for the upcoming flim adaptation, that they have previously said would NOT be in the current TV continuum, but a "relauch" if you will.
not sure if that means not following the davies-moffat Run, or the very beginning origin story, when the doctor first comes to earth, for the first time even!

and while yes, "the Doctor", we don't really know his real name. Really. John Smith, perhaps?

That could be fun, as long as it's well-written.

Nah, he tells everyone that, and when River whispered his name in 'Silence in the Library' he was very wide-eyed and said that there was only one time he could ever tell someone his real name.
My guess is that it's Rumpelstiltskin

STORYMARK

It's a legit poll, in as much as 'Hey, lets just throw two English actors up, and see who people vote for" can be legit.

The talk last week about a movie is little more than just talk, and people are trying to recast the Doctor all the time (just like Bond). Nothing worth looking at, really.

"Goram it kid, let's frak this thing and go home! Engage!"

ASORTAFAIRYTALE

Yep, Stephen Moffat even said pretty definitively that there was no intention from anyone in the Doctor Who business to create a movie. Though I believe it was an American chap who made that comment about making a movie? At any rate, he'd still have to get the rights and whatnot.

And then, people are always saying who they want the next doctor to be. I suppose it's not that important to me, as long as they can act, as the most recent ones have all been fantastic.

DREAMTROVE

What an appalling concept.

However, I think that Gary Oldman would make a great Master, assuming such a character still exists.

The doctor has to be young dashing and impetuous like William Hartnell. Otherwise the flirtation with the intergalactic floozies falls flat.

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

SIMONWHO

The beauty of Doctor Who is that the Doctor can be played by practically anyone, as long as they can project that elusive Doctorish quality. Given that he's over a thousand years old, every actor is too young for the part (apart from Cher who is disqualified for other reasons).

I think Hugh Laurie would make an interesting choice - ditto Alan Rickman but giving his loathing of sci-fi, I doubt he'd be interested. To be honest though, I'd expect if it is a BBC Film, that means reasonably low budget so there's a better than average chance they'd pick an unknown or the current TV Doctor and then spend a bit of money on an American as the villain.
