Nah dude. You know it was written by a bunch of college "educated", fat, pink haired potbelly troll cat ladies. Probably the writers room for She Hulk.

Honestly, I think this movie would have been pretty funny in the 90's. Especially when all of Steven King's magical negros from his made for TV movies and Michael Clarke Duncan were still alive and could have all made appearances in it. But it's not funny anymore in 2023.

No thanks, Hollywood. Imma stay at home that night and watch Black Knight for the 5th time instead.

So. Who else is pumped about the Magical Society of Negro Crybabies coming out this weekend!

Not BoxOfficePro. They can't even be bothered to give any predictions for this flop and don't even mention it.

Bruce says they didn't even have preview night.

His model gives it just under $2 Million for the weekend. He says anything over $3 Million would be a surprise. The model also gives it $4.1 Million in total before it's out of theaters.

Good luck ever finding a production budget number for this.

Focus Features doesn't like putting that out unless they're making money...

2023's My Big Fat Greek Wedding grossed $39.1 Million and cost $18 Million to make.

2023's Asteroid City grossed $54 Million and cost $25 Million to make.

2023's Book Club: Part 2 grossed $29 Million and cost $20 Million to make.

2023's Champions grossed $18.8 Million and we never got a production budget number.

Long story short? Of the 4 movies Focus Features put out last year, we know the budgets of 3 of them. The cheapest one was $18 Million and the average production budget was $21 Million.

Good on Focus Features for keeping the budgets down on their flicks, but there's zero chance it doesn't lose millions here if they only gross $2 or $3 Million this weekend.

No previews on Thursday for Amazing & Magical Lodge for the League of Extraordinary Black Folk, and a projected gross of only $520,000 on Friday in 1,l47 theaters that appeared to have about 25 people each in attendance.

Ouch...

Very doubtful that it even reaches $2 Million with that opening, so I think Bruce's "hunch" was wrong here. I doubt that it even hits the $1.97 Million his computer model came up with.

29% All Critics; 19% Top Critics / 55% Verified Audience; 35% All Audience

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_american_society_of_magical_negro
es

Almost no one reviewed it. 48 total reviews, only 16 of which are "Top Critics". The Verified Audience giving ratings with or without reviews might even be smaller than the All Critics pool with "Fewer than 50 Verified Ratings".

Even for Focus Features, this is bad. Most of their movies fly under the radar, with Asteroid City probably being the only one from 2023 approaching what could be considered a household name at the time.

This will probably be their "biggest" movie of 2024, at least in terms of exposure. But the funny thing is I don't see anybody talking about it now, or even in the few weeks leading up to it. Everybody laughed at it and got their licks in back in December of last year and now that it's finally come out nobody appeared to remember it was even a thing that was made.

This is a funny review...

The American Society of Magical Negroes Review: Racist Boring Trash With A Soulless Lead

We live in a world where Hollywood can’t seem to figure out why people aren’t going to the movie theaters anymore. Maybe the problem lies in the fact that Hollywood is continuously pumping out nauseating left-wing Progressive lectures being thinly disguised as entertainment.

https://society-reviews.com/2024/03/16/the-american-society-of-magical
-negroes-review-racist-boring-trash-with-a-soulless-lead
/

Quote:

Just like every other Daily Show clone that uses white guilt to continue to get work and Progressive Hollywood, Kobe’s film continues the racist narrative that the most dangerous animals in the world are white people. The message of this film is clear: whenever white people are not comfortable black people are the ones who die. a message that is so divorced from reality, that it would be considered nonsensical even if this was a fantasy movie.

Magical Negroes is a film that takes poorly disguised hatred and racism of another race in the realm of Comedy thinking that they can fall back on calling this movie a satire whenever they are called out for spreading racial division. However, without racial division between blacks and whites, this story has absolutely nothing to offer. There’s no Chemistry Between the two leads in this film as no one Believes Justice Smith is heterosexual let alone can play one on screen.

But seriously guys... Get a real editor. Don't just take the first suggestion that your browser's spellchecker gives you or even worse let AI "fix" your typos.

"The film has no story to dig into because the forced love triangle in the movie is nothing more than a placeholder for our biracial filmmaker’s views on race. As Justice Smith cinematically waterboards the audience with his complete and other lack of a screen presence, the only time that his character comes alive is to lecture the audience about the fact that black people in the United States of America Live every day under the guys that white people want them dead."

Complete and Utter, not "Other".

No reason to capitalize "Live". You probably capitalized 2 dozen words in this article that did not benefit at all from capitalization, and you started several sentences off without capitalizing words that should, obviously, be capitalized.

And seriously.... "under the Guys"? What a potentially confusing phrasing of words when you're writing about Justice Smith, who would probably be thrilled to be under the guys.

C'mon Guise! Get your Guys right!

Oh, I won't be.

Bruce's model came up with 1.97 Million opening weekend and only $4.26 Million US box office total before it was kicked out of theaters. That's 63.45% of what the model thought it would do. Carry that over to the US total and you get $2.7 Million US total.

I'm looking forward to watching this think make less than $100k every day this week, maybe even including cheap seat Tuesday.

Even Book Club: Part 2 made $29 Million for Focus Features last year. And a movie about Woody Harrelson coaching a bunch of retarded kids made almost $20 Million.

Ooofffffff....

Good call.

It only brought in $120k on its 2nd Friday. That's absolutely abysmal when they brought in $112k on Monday and $163k on Cheap Seat Tuesday. Especially when you take into account that it actually added 6 theaters since opening weekend. And it IS a pure 77% drop from opening Friday since there were no Thursday night previews for this one.

It appears to be getting a release in the UK and Germany late next month. I don't know if it will screen anywhere else internationally.

There's zero chance it hits the $4.26 Million that Bruce's model came up with. Depending on how early it gets yanked from US theaters it may not even hit that $2.7 Million figure I came up with for the US total either.

This movie probably ends up costing Focus Features in the area of $30 to $45 Million. Probably on the low end of that since I'll bet their marketing costs are much smaller in proportion to the larger studios, and also the theater takes are a lot smaller when you're talking about a 50% cut of almost nothing.

We'll probably only ever be able to speculate because I'm pretty sure that the production budget figures for this movie is are buried where nobody will ever find them.

$440k projected for 2nd weekend... a 66% drop, with 6 more theaters showing it than opening weekend.

$1.884 Million in total now.

Next weekend it will drop to $140k if it's lucky. Every day this week will be well below $100k, even cheap seat Tuesday.

What is the UK and Germany's current toleration level for woke trash in Spring of 2024? We'll find out if it's enough to get this movie over $3 Million worldwide before it's over.

Monday: $48k (57% drop)
Cheap Seat Tuesday: $69k (58% drop)

No numbers for Wednesday yet, but I'm going to guess $43k and somewhere in the low to mid $30k's for Thursday.

It's at $2.3 Million now, with a weekend between $120k and $200k ahead of it. Maybe less if it loses a lot of theaters.

I don't think there's any chance even with the few international countries that are screening it that it's going to come close to Bruce's original prediction of $4.26 Million in the US for its worldwide total.

It's lucky if it ends up grossing $2.75 Million in the US.

Even with the very low expectations predicted before release, this thing bombed just about as hard as any movie could ever bomb. I'd love to see the production budget numbers on it, but we're never going to see those.

LOL...

$17k on Friday night. That's an 86% drop from last weekend and a 51% drop from Thursday night. Even though it was reduced to only 152 theaters it only grossed $112 per theater.

What happened to the wide release of the updated (racist) Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead?

It was supposed to come out on April 12th, but there's no box office data for it on any site. People have seen the movie and given it reviews. A simple google search shows reviews at RogerEbert.com, Variety, The Guardian and some others. It's got 58% with 24 Critics and 64% with less than 50 in both the verified and all audience counts.

The last we'd even heard mention of it at The-Numbers was on the Upcoming Release page for the 12th. Now all there is for the movie is a relatively blank page for it without any data.

https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Dont-Tell-Mom-the-Babysitters-Dead-(
2024)#tab=summary

I don't think this got a wide release. Bruce has said that showing in 600 or more theaters is considered Wide, even though most blockbusters would start with somewhere close to 4,000 if not above 4,000 theaters.

If there were more than 600 theaters showing this, we should have had financial data for it a week after it opened.

A search for showtimes near me is odd. It doesn't appear that it's even showing anywhere near me in Indiana. I'd have to drive at least 30 or 40 miles to see it. They have showings in Chicago, Kankakee and Oswego, Illinois.
