Dune 2 has been in theaters for just 34 day and now it has been announced that ‘Dune: Part 3’ is officially in development. You know what else happened on the 34th day? Perfect copies, not the less than perfect copies available on the second day of Dune 2 are now available for free:

All I know is that I'm at least 5 for 5 in my predictions so far this year.

1. Madame Web: HARD FAILURE.

Exited domestic theaters on April 4th. $97,723,158 worldwide gross on an $80 Million budget. $102,276,842 short of breaking even for Sony.

https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Madame-Web-(2024)#tab=summary

2. Argylle: HARD FAILURE.

Exited domestic theaters on March 21st. $96,145,720 worldwide gross on a $100 Million budget. $153,854,280 short of breaking even for Universal.

https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Argylle-(2024-United-Kingdom)#tab=su
mmary

3. American Society of Magical Negroes: HARD FAILURE.

Exited domestic theaters on April 4th. $2,480,645 domestic gross on an undisclosed budget that was likely in the area of $15 to $20 Million, which would be in line with the budgets of all other movies made by Focus Features in the last two years. FF doesn't spent a crazy amount on marketing, but there is still a multiplier on the budget. This would indicate that so far it has lost Focus Features anywhere between $15 and $30 Million, minus what little money it may make from the two European countries it still has on its schedule.

https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/American-Society-of-Magical-Negroes-
The-(2024)#tab=summary

4. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire: (Future) MODERATE FAILURE.

14 days in the theaters and entering its 3rd weekend domestic. $114,963,665 worldwide gross on a $100 Million budget. It will make in the area of $18 to $23 Million more worldwide when we have the figures on Monday, so we'll be in the area of $133 Million and $138 Million.

It only drops from there and we're looking at a movie that is going to fall well short of the $250 Million worldwide it needed to break even for Sony. Likely at least another $70 Million loss for Sony in the end.

https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Ghostbusters-Frozen-Empire-(2024)#ta
b=summary

5. Dune: Part 2: BLOCKBUSTER SUCCESS.

35 days in the box office and $631,316,791 worldwide gross on a $190 Million budget, or 332% of the production budget. It's slowing down but it's still got plenty of gas in the tank. The last three weeks it has suffered only between a 35% and 44% drop from the previous weeks. If it gets even remotely close to the amount of days that Wonka had it will easily reach $700 Million and possibly even hit $750 Mil, which would mean between a $225 and $275 Million profit for Warner Bros.

https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Dune-Part-Two-(2024)#tab=summary

I've also called the Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead remake and Universal's Twisters failures ahead of time as well, so we'll see how those play out on April 12th and July 19th, respectively.

Have fun on the high seas. It's all just a simple google search away and a 5 year old could get the links in current year if they were so inclined.

If you predict everything major Hollywood studios sell will be a "failure" you will be right most times without any analysis or effort at all. Your readers will think you are as smart as you think you are. There is a nasty little secret about Hollywood that few understand because they can't comprehend why movie producers and movie studios are in constant conflict over money. They conflate producers and studios as being partners on the same side rather than antagonists at war with each other. The secret: Hollywood is run to enrich the people who submit hugely inflated budgets to the studio and are paid to make these movies, i.e. the Producers. The Producers are powerfully motivated to swindle the major studios and their stockholders by overcharging for crappy movies.

I envy you. It must be really easy living in that world of pure black and white that you exist in.

And I'm not aiming to be right "most of the time". I'm aiming for the bullseye.

Initially after viewing the trailer for Argylle, I was pretty excited about it and thought it was going to do well. But new data came in and it wasn't looking good. Particularly that obscene $200 Million budget. I quickly changed my opinion on that and said it was going to be a massive failure with that budget.

I also said initially that I thought Dune: Part 2 would do about as well as Dune: Part 1 did, just because I personally didn't see the draw. But just doing a little bit of research after making that post in late February I edited it to add that I was probably wrong in thinking that and that now I was convinced if they did it right it could make as much as $800 Million worldwide. And in the end it's not going to fall very short of that figure.

And I wanted to see the Ghostbusters movie be a success. So that was a hard one for me to come out and say that I was sure it was going to be a failure, especially a few days later when the $100 Million budget was announced. I got some pushback on that by Whozit in the thread, and JSF went ahead and made his own entirely new Ghostbusters thread because he liked the movie and didn't want to post in my thread about it, apparently. But just because I personally want to see something succeed, that doesn't mean I'm going to come out and say that it will be a success.

Though it appears that there may be a woke element to Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, I'm not convinced and I think that the online commentators need to take a step back and reevaluate some of their positions today before they lose their credibility. I've never claimed that the Ghostbusters failure was due to an agenda inside of it, even with Leftoid deranged Patton Oswalt starring in the movie I didn't say that. I only mentioned that if they did make the main girl a lesbian with a lesbian ghost like some are claiming it was only going to make the loss of money worse for Sony.

Woke or not, this movie was going to be a failure with that budget. If, as you claim, all producers are just conmen that are screwing everybody else while getting rich, well... the jig is up. The Woke Agenda and the decades of creative bankruptcy before that has finally caught up to Hollywood. If they don't dramatically slash the budgets on their movies going forward, nearly every movie above a middle-tier budget is going to be a loss for investors and they're just going to just stop investing.

I know what I'm doing here. And the more time I spend doing it the more accurate my predictions get. The world isn't black and white. There's a lot of nuance, and if you're oblivious to it well... that's the difference between an A+ and a B- track record.

Who are you kidding, 6ix? Nothing happens after you make a prediction. The target is imaginary. Even 6ixStringJack (previously 6ixStringJoker) is not real. A non-existent entity (6ix) shoots phantom arrows at imaginary targets to score unreal grade points in a contest no one is following inside the perfect vacuum of outer space.

And Second = Reaverfan. And it's a lot of fun getting so deep under your skin that your Reaverfan persona makes an appearance after you got it banned.

But yeah, you're right. Only about 6 people here get to see me be right all the time, which is great for you because only about 6 people here get to see you be wrong all the time.

Perhaps you are confused.

A thread whose sole purpose (and Title) is to discuss the failure of a film (by those who have not seen the film, and are likely not to see the film) is not necessarily the same topic as a thread which reviews the film, by somebody who actually saw the film.

Different thread topics. Different discussions. Get over yourself.

I have never been Reaverfan. It is a fact. Some more facts:

Kung Fu Panda 4 has done well, but only one month after arriving in theaters, Pirates provide perfect copies for free.

I wish for the day when a movie aficionado can get every movie for free as in the cases of Kung Fu Panda 4 and Dune 2. That day has almost arrived for books: https://libgen.is/

The funny thing about 6ixStringJack is his obsessive making of financial predictions about movies he won't watch made by companies he does not own stock in because he hates Hollywood for political reasons. 6ix also makes political predictions years ahead of elections, i.e. Trump won in 2020 and will again in 2024.

‘Dune: Part 2’ Streaming Release Date Is Imminent, Which Is A Mistake By Warner Bros.

ng-release-date-is-imminent-which-is-a-mistake-by-warner-bros/?sh=794442092886

It’s still performing well despite a wide decrease in showtimes. At the domestic box office this very weekend, two days before streaming release, it still earned $7.4 million domestically, bringing its grand total to $669,384,065 worldwide. Thankfully, Dune 3, Dune: Messiah, is already a go based on how wildly this movie outperformed the first one, so that decision has been correctly made. But pulling this movie, of all movies, just a month and a half after it debuted is a mistake.

We have seen other studios recognize this. Part of Barbie’s massive run was the fact that it did not come to streaming for five full months after its release last year. Oppenheimer was released on July 21, 2023, and was not released on streaming until February of 2024. This idea that Dune Part 2 should have a streaming release date just 45 days after release is evidence of how much this desire to drive people toward streaming services can actively hurt the media being sold. They’re still treating this like a pandemic movie when we are now well past that.

WB has been pulled in multiple directions as they try to pay down debt, which has involved removing shows from Max or outright cancelling finished films. The 45 day window is meant to drive more Max subscribers, but the argument is that it’s costing them more than its helping. I would certainly say that for Dune 2.

The author's timeline appears to be screwy...

It earned $7.4 Million on the weekend of April 5th. As of April 14th, 2 days before the streaming release, it earned only $4.3 Million on the weekend of April 12th.

That's after a week of making less than a Million every week day. It's entire take for the last 7 days was $7,026,860.

The amount of money it would have made in the US over the next 7 days without any other external interference was around $4.2 Million.

We're at the point where WB is going to lose about $10 to $12 Million Domestic on Dune if they were to pull it from the theaters entirely, but I see no mention from Bruce that this is a thing they're planning on doing.

It will be interesting to see how a streaming release would effect it as it ends the wildly profitable stage of its run.
