Satire about post-credit scene in The Marvels:

LOS ANGELES—Following the conclusion of The Marvels, the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a post-credits scene teases a much better film that all the actors could’ve been in if the MCU didn’t exist. “After the credits rolled, the screen opened on a mature, compelling drama that featured Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris depicting complex and nuanced characters,” film critic Ross Bowden said Monday, describing the post-credits scene’s intriguing glimpse into an alternate reality in which the entertainment industry wasn’t plagued with the incessant onslaught of mass-produced superhero blockbuster slop, thereby allowing the actors in The Marvels to accept roles that were creatively fulfilling. “You can see how proud the actors are in their work in this hypothetical film. The scene gives a short-but-sweet taste of how the people involved in the making of this film could have created something worth watching instead of churning out the bland, overproduced content represented in The Marvels. You can actually tell the performers are reacting to each other’s emotions and not just standing in front of a green screen. It’s amazing.” At press time, Marvel fans had reportedly slammed the post-credits scene as “so boring.”

‘The Marvels’ flop shows that Kevin Feige’s ‘brilliance,’ which drove $29B for Marvel, is no match for Disney’s insatiable need for content

Mon, November 13, 2023 at 9:55 AM CST

A major reason for the film's flop is that the workload placed on Marvel's chief creative engine, president Kevin Feige, is starting to catch up with him, according to the authors of the recently published MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios.

Feige was the man most responsible for delivering Marvel's string of blockbusters, starting with 2008's Iron Man, and turning the studio into a dominant player in Hollywood. But as Marvel's ambitions grew and the studio churned out an increasing number of streaming shows to go along with its usual theatrical releases, it has struggled to stretch Feige's talents, Dave Gonzales, Gavin Edwards, and longtime pop culture journalist and chronicler of superhero movies Joanna Robinson write in MCU. Since Disney—Marvel’s parent company—launched its Disney+ streaming service in 2019, Feige has been overextended, they argue.

I doubt this explanation. It is not lower ticket sales caused by lower quality. I don't think the quality has dropped at all. It is lower ticket sales caused by excessive quantity. It is too much of the same old thing too frequently. When you can get Hollywood's movies for free, if you wait a month, why go to the theater with its snacks that cost more than the ticket?

Yeah. It's great watching the Legacy Media finally turn on Disney/Marvel.

I'm bumping this because I hate having the 50th post and having it buried on the previous page.

Risk lowballing the numbers on opening night as per usual and make all the Saturday headlines even worse than they were going to be, or risk highballing the Friday prediction and possibly project low for Sunday to still come in lower than the actual numbers that are posted on Monday?

My money is that Disney's projected numbers for Friday are actually higher than reality just because the headlines that are going to come out today are embarrassing enough already. They might throw out convention entirely here and highball the whole damn weekend just to try to salvage some of the headlines with their shill outfits like Variety and Deadline and hope that not too many people are listening to the people like me who would catch them in the act come Monday if they try that.

Am I awesome or am I awesome?

The Marvels ACTUAL weekend gross Domestic: $46,110,859

In the entire time that I've been tracking movies, I've NEVER seen a studio highball their weekend prediction. Not once. Until now. And I called it.

In fact, I've said on at least half a dozen occasions when posting about a new movie that just came out that it will probably have $1 or $2 Million more when the actual numbers come in (It's all in my post history).

I'm in Bob Iger's head now.

The ragebaiters on YouTube all seemed to have missed this, but I didn't Bob. I'm calling you out.

Per your usual, you misunderstand the simplest ideas. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is selling fewer tickets because each new movie is more of the same goddamn old baloney served up too often. The Avatar movie series learned a lesson of not repeating themselves at too short an interval by changing when the next movie will arrive.

The Avatar interval was to be once every two years. That is too frequent. The interval was revised to 3 years and 4 years. The next Avatar, #3, has already been completely filmed, and Avatar #4 partially filmed because the actors are small children who will be adults long before Avatar #4 arrives. It is possible for a new Avatar every 6 months, but that would ruin ticket sales because an Avatar movie wouldn't be a special once-in-the-lifetime-of-a-child event.

Avatar 1 (2009)
Avatar 2 The Way of Water (2022)
Avatar 3 (2025)
Avatar 4 (2029)

If Avatar was scheduled like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there would be an Avatar every year, or two in June and December, until adult audiences refused to go to the stupid things because each new Avatar movie is another slice of the same moldy baloney. There is only so much of those movies you can consume without getting sick enough to vomit. They sure look good, but the stories are stupid as hell.

I doubt this explanation. It is not lower ticket sales caused by lower quality. I don't think the quality has dropped at all.

You're right and you're wrong.

The quality IS low, but it wasn't caused by lower ticket sales.

The Marvels began production in July of 2021. Yes, this is the same month that Black Widow kicked off Phase 4 and flopped, but they didn't know that yet. The two MCU movies that had come out before production started were Avengers: End Game and Spider-Man: Far From Home. They made $2,788,912,285 and $1,132,107,522, respectively.

And while Phase 4 saw some sad returns like Shang Chi and Thor: Love and Thunder, the only other flop it put out was Eternals in November of 2021. Dr Strange and the Multiverse of Madness made $952,224,986, Wakanda Forever made $853,985,546 and Spider-Man: No Way Home made $1,907,836,254.

Even though Disney wasn't in charge of No Way Home, it was still making bank with 2 movies that made nearly a Billion dollars after The Marvels started shooting. Even though Thor: Love and Thunder was awful and only grossed over $700k it still made money.

Where the quality really drops is the Disney+ TV shows that are pretty much universally hated or just completely ignored.

Quote:

It is lower ticket sales caused by excessive quantity. It is too much of the same old thing too frequently.

Lower quality AND excessive quantity.

You can't have both.

You are completely discounting the fact that they're forcing an agenda in their flicks and people don't want to see that. You can get away with that for a while, but when it's constantly being thrown in your face even the completely non-political normies grow tired of it eventually. Especially when the stories suck, the characters suck, the direction is bad and every Marvel movie is formulaic and you already know exactly how it's going to end because you never once fear that anyone is in any danger at all. And now that they've thrown the Multiverse in there, even the rare death doesn't matter anymore if they kill off one of their cash-cows like they did multiple times over in End Game.

You're also discounting the fact that Disney/Marvel has already burned most of its A-List characters and is scraping the bottom of the barrel with Shang-Chi, Eternals and any one of The Marvels. Even in the comics they've rebooted Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel so many times it's silly. Nobody buys those comics.

Now that they're going to bring the X-Men in the universe, if Kevin Feige were smart, he'd have Anna Paquin's Rogue turn Brie Larson's Carol Danvers into a vegetable. That movie would make $1.5 Billion easy just for that scene alone, even if it were a bad movie.

https://www.cbr.com/captain-marvel-rogue-steals-powers/

It wouldn't line up with how Rogue's story actually went, but neither did the original X-Men movies. They could just explain it all away with the Multiverse like they always do.

Quote:

When you can get Hollywood's movies for free, if you wait a month, why go to the theater with its snacks that cost more than the ticket?

That was always my way of thinking back when I still watched movies. But that doesn't explain what's happening here. There have been 2 movies in 2023 that grossed well over a billion dollars (neither of them by Disney), and 11 movies that have grossed over half a billion. Only two of those were by Disney, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3. is the only movie they've put out all year that hasn't lost them money.

And aside from that there have been scores of movies that have been profitable because they have reasonable budgets.

There's a very good chance that Five Nights at Freddy's with its $25 Million budget is going to make more money than Captain Marvel does, and yet people could have just signed up for one month of Peacock for $5.99 and watched it at home with family and/or friends on opening night and ate all the popcorn and candy they wanted at a fraction of the price.

I heard that both Marvels and Snow White cost $300 M.

It used to be that The Onion would assign names in stories for specific purposes of reference, but I check film critic Ross Bowden and only get a direct link to this one specific story. So no backstory, apparently.

I also heard that there is a new South Park episode, reflecting on Kathleen Kennedy, where all of the South Park characters have been re-cast as diversity tards.

Initially Variety said The Marvels only cost $130 Million. A week later Deadline reported it was at least double that. Since then I've heard varying stories. Some said it was $330 Million but they got a 55 million UK subsidy so it was $275 Million, others say that it cost $275 Million but the subsidy drops it down to $218 Million. Those costs were for what they reported to the UK for the original shoot, so none of that includes the extensive reshoots.

So who knows what it cost...

Bruce reports it cost $274.8 Million at the-numbers, so that's what I'm going with. It needs $685 Million to break even.

I heard the same thing about Snow White. That one is going to cost half a billion by the time they're done tweaking it.

Yeah. I watched it with my old man the other day. It was funny.

Yeah. It's bullshit.

I just tell anybody who says that that Five Nights at Freddy's came out during the strike, didn't get promoted, cost 12 times less than The Marvels, was available to stream for free with a $5.99/mo. Peacock subscription, and it's still going to make more money than The Marvels will.

We hear it every day.

I'm so glad that Brie Larson was the first empowered female that was ever in a movie.

It's so good to see women finally get the representation that they deserve since they're so much more than just housewives and baby makers.

Trolls Band Together is predicted to make $25M-$33M on opening weekend.

So even if The Marvels only lost -47% from Opening Weekend, it's getting beat by a kid movie and will take 3rd place on its second weekend with the low-end prediction for Trolls.

If Trolls opens with $33 Million, The Marvels can only drop -27% from Opening weekend for 2nd place behind Songbirds and Snakes.

Wouldn't it be funny if Trolls pulls a Five Nights at Freddy's and beats both of them this weekend?

Go take your kids to see Trolls Band Together this weekend playing at a theater near you!

Oh. Hello Marvels Wednesday Box Office.

$1,789,239 or -46% from Cheap Seat Tuesday on Opening Weekend.

Five Nights at Freddy's dropped -48% from Cheap Seat Tuesday on Opening Weekend to $2,739,750.

It was kind of a joke at first because I really couldn't imagine that The Marvels would lose to Five Nights at Freddy's, but this is starting to become a real possibility despite it costing at least 12 times as much to make (that we know of) and the fact that FNAF was available to stream for free since day one.

The Marvels Domestic Box Office after Day 6: $53,573,419

Five Nights at Freddy's Domestic Box Office after Day 6: $92,086,180

You'd better hope you get astounding international numbers going forward, Disney.

They should have actor's and director's classes on how to properly respond to a movie they were involved with bombing, and make Iman Vellani (Ms. Marvel) the teacher.

Her response to the movie failing:

Quote:

I don't want to focus on something that's not even in my control, because what's the point? That's for Bob Iger. [The Box Office] has nothing to do with me. I'm happy with the finished product, and the people that I care about enjoyed the film.

See. Was that so hard?

It could even easily be argued that she got her digs in there too, but with enough savvy that one could easily dismiss anybody claiming that she did as being paranoid or just simply twisting words.

"the people that I care about enjoyed the film."

Does she mean her family and friends? Or does she mean anybody who isn't white and male?

Don't know.

But until I see her going on some sexist, racist tirade like Nia DaCosta just did this week, I'm more than willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.

Aside from this single remark, I've never heard her opinions on anything or heard her speak in public (Something else that she should teach in the class). She seems like a sweet kid and from any clips of the movie that I've seen with her in it, she seemed to really have fun playing the role. And unlike Brie Larson and whoever the black actress is, she isn't afraid to smile.

I feel bad for her that her first big movie and the Disney+ TV show failed so hard. Hopefully this experience doesn't tank her acting career and she ditches Disney and goes on to make some good movies with another outfit like Universal.

Blue Beetle only dropped -74% on its second Friday.

Nia DaCost-Bob-Iger-a lotta money.

Absolutely.

I'm still a fan of King, I'm not going to stop rewatching 'Chistine' because he's a left wing dimwit. He's been able to keep lefty politics out of his books and films, he should know that you should give the fan base what they want, not what YOU want. You may want to stay away from Holly...

My old man has been a King fan since the Bachman days, but he's reading Holly now (which is a continuation of a series he's enjoyed, apparently), and he's on the fence if he's going to finish it or not.

Here's a discussion about the book on Reddit.

Yeah. Good call. You probably didn't see it with all the other stuff I've been posting, but I did say that I thought you were probably right.

Unfortunately though, that did mean Songbirds and Snakes did better than I wanted it to, which was my biggest concern about a dropoff too hard for The Marvels.

Here, it was on November 16th:

You may be right.

BoxOfficePro predicts a -65% drop for The Marvels in the 2nd weekend with only $16 Million this weekend.

https://www.boxofficepro.com/weekend-box-office-forecast-the-hunger-ga
mes-the-ballad-of-songbirds-and-snakes-next-goal-wins-trolls-band-together-and-thanksgiving
/

Good news for people who wanted to see this crash and burn. Bad news probably for people who also wanted to see Songbirds and Snakes crash and burn.

Looks like Rachel Zegler destroys Disney profits whether she's working for them or not.

Everybody go see Trolls!

$16 Million? They WISH!

It looks like The Marvels and Thanksgiving are in a virtual 3rd place tie right now at $10.2 Million each for weekend 2. That would be a staggering -78% drop, which beats Five Nights at Freddy's -76%. I've only been tracking movies deeply for about a year, but until FNAF dropped -76% I'd never seen a drop that hard before. It didn't take long for The Marvels to break that (at least one year) record.

Archive: https://archive.ph/M7NGJ (I archived this because by tomorrow this will change and be lost forever. Even though they're tied at $10.2 Million, Bruce put The Marvels above Thanksgiving).

So what's Disney's psychology on the projections for the 2nd weekend? I called it on opening weekend that we'd see the first time where a major studio actually claimed nearly $1 Million more in projections opening week instead of $1-$3 lower than reality.

Did Disney try and repeat that this weekend and now risks being absolutely humiliated when Thanksgiving ends up making more and pushing it into 4th place, or did they already see that no amount of lying and puffing up numbers on Weekend 2 was going to matter so they safely land ahead of Thanksgiving in 3rd place?

Did they lowball it like they usually would have and are they going to match FNAF's -76% drop, or did they highball it again and maybe they end up with an -80% drop in reality?

Also, although Trolls Band Together didn't beat Songbirds and Snakes, it's projected to have made nearly $31 Million and that's almost double what Bruce's model predicted that it would make. It appears to have taken about $10 Million of that from his prediction for The Marvels which made exactly half of what he predicted it would this weekend and the rest came from The Holdovers and Next Goal Wins, which both made about half of what Bruce predicted.

Universal just keeps putting out the hits in 2023 and it's no wonder they're by far the most profitable studio this year. If it weren't for their massive Renfield flop early this year, they might have actually made $2 Billion in profit using the 2.5x RoT model.

I'm really pushing for Trolls to take 2nd place behind Wish next weekend and pushing S&S and The Marvels even further down than their lowly out of the gates performances doomed them to.

Universal slightly lowballed their prediction for Thanksgiving, and Disney slightly highballed their projection for The Marvels.

Thanksgiving comes in 3rd place with $10,306,272, and The Marvels gets 4th place on its second weekend with only $10,120,589.

Fuck you racist/sexist Disney. Fuck you racist/sexist diversity hire Nia. And Fuck your woke trash movie that nobody is paying to see.

Once again, I had to do what turned out to be the smallest amount of research to debunk claims that what I'm going to start calling idiot YouTubers are falsely making about The Marvels.

No. The Marvels did NOT break the record for the largest 2nd weekend drop of all time.

Though it was the largest drop I'd ever witnessed, I've only been deeply tracking movies for little under a year now and though it was the largest I'd ever witnessed, I assumed that it wasn't the largest 2nd weekend drop of all time.

It turns out that BoxOfficeMojo already tracks this data, and The Marvels lands at #25 on this list.

https://www.boxofficemojo.com/chart/biggest_second_weekend_gross_drop/

Now, would I count a lot of movies that landed on the list above The Marvels?

No. I wouldn't.

2 of them would be removed right off the bat. One being a 2019 re-release of The Wizard of Oz, and the other being a 2017 re-release of Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

I also wouldn't count any movies that grossed under $1 Million on opening weekend either, just assuming that they were not wide-screen releases (If I really cared, I'd spend time to do a deeper dive into them).

I'd also remove anime titles and TV Episodes that always are super front-loaded and released for a niche audience.

So here would be what I consider the legitimate list:

1. Collide (2016) -88.5%
2. Before I Go To Sleep (2014) -82%
3. Gigli (2003) -81.9%
4. Replicas (2019) -81.5%
5. Return to the Blue Lagoon (1991) -80.8%
6. Friday the 13th (2009) -80.4%
7. Halloween Ends (2022) -80%
8. Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace (1996) -79.8%
9. Calendar Girl (1993) -79.7%
10. Another You (1991) -78.2%
11. The Squeeze (1987) -78.1%
12. The Marvels (2023) -78.1%

It's the first Cape Flick to get a 2nd week drop that high, but it's hardly the first movie to ever perform that poorly on the 2nd weekend.

Everybody needs to be factual with the data here. It's far too easy to disprove lies when the math is out there for anybody to read for themselves.

The YouTubers need to stop lying, especially on their thumbnails, for click-bait.

We're finally winning here, but they're going to de-legitimatize all of it for clout, and give the other side ammo for calling anybody who is actively rooting for these movies to fail disingenuous online trolls.

STOP claiming that a movie needs to make 300% to break even when that is a lie (I'M LOOKING DIRECTLY AT YOU HERE, RYAN KINEL). STOP making untrue claims like The Marvels is the worst performing movie of all time when that is a lie.

These trash movies are finally falling flat on their own faces and they don't need your help.

Maybe Disney should stop trying to make movies for people like you since none of you actually pay for anything.

Five Nights at Freddy's was made for 13.75% of The Marvel's budget and was available to stream for free, legally, from day one with a $5.99 per month Peacock membership, which means it was also available to stream for free illegally from day one as well.

It's at $293 Million right now, or 1,465% of its production budget.

The Marvels had an entire month to make its money before you pirates leaked it online. If a movie doesn't make its production budget back by the end of the first week, it will not break even.

The Marvels hasn't even broken $200 Million worldwide yet, grossing only $198 Million near the end of its run, or 72% of its production budget.

Your illegal copy had nothing at all to do with The Marvel's failure. Nada. Zilch. Zero.

Neither The Marvels or Wish will gross anything close to Five Nights at Freddy's, despite costing $275 Million and $200 Million, respectively.

Hell... I doubt very much either of them gross as much as Sound of Freedom did, and that movie only cost $14.5 Million to make.

You are very stupid about that. The Pirates made a copy available the same day as the movie was released, except with advertisements for online gambling included. For a pittance, an unknown theater projectionist cooperates with the gambling casino. This happens with every significant movie nowadays. You have to wait 4 weeks to get a copy without the casino ads.

From looking at the actual movie, S of F cost around the same as 3 episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, with the movie producers stealing $12.5 million of the budget for themselves. Producers can do that and nobody will even know.

The truth is that Disney has lost nearly $2 Billion at the box office in 2023.

Meanwhile, Five Nights at Freddy's is a Universal picture. Universal has made over $1.5 Billion during 2023.

Annual Ticket Sales https://www.the-numbers.com/market/ have been decreasing since 2002 and will keep decreasing, hopefully, until there are only a few screens for the entire USA. That's my prediction. Unless you own Disney/NBC/Universal/Comcast/AMC Theater stock, why would you care? Sell that stock.

There were 4 times as many tickets sold in 2023 than there were in 2020. There has been a 4 year increase in ticket sales. The combined 2023 Box Office total in the US alone was over $9 Billion. It's going to be a long, long, long time before movie theaters die.

And the studios had better hope so. Nobody has ever found a way to make streaming profitable.

In a healthy person's brain, not everything is about Donald Trump.

In an America that wasn't diseased by Leftist Ideology, Trump never would have won in 2016 and he wasn't going to win next year.

The reason I care is because watching the successes and failures of the movie industry is a great barometer of what way the winds in the culture war are blowing. Most of the folk who go see movies are normies. Your agenda is dead when the normies woke up and collectively rejected it, as they did in 2023.

When I was a kid, there were complaints I agreed with at the time (1961) that TV was a vast wasteland.
https://www.history.com/speeches/the-vast-wasteland-of-television

It still is, but it has gotten vaster (that's a word) and wastier (not a word). I noticed who watched a lot of TV, too, back in the '60s. Assholes were who. Their children and grandchildren became today's Trumptards. It is not at all surprising, when you think about it, that worthless people waste their lives on crappy crime shows like Joker and Sound of Freedom and vote for criminals like Trump.

Son, I just review the data, I rarely watch any of this shit.

I can count on both hands the amount of TV shows I've watched in the last 8 years. I'd probably have to use both my feet to count the amount of movies I've watched in the last 8 years, but keeping it to 4 movies or less per year is a number I can easily live with.

And... big surprise... Despite posting about it's performance 100 times, I've still never even seen Sound of Freedom.

Correction.

Five Nights at Freddy's budget was not 13.75% of The Marvels.

Five Nights at Freddy's budget was 7.27% of The Marvels.

Normally, this is where I'd mention that usually projections, especially on opening weekend, are lower than reality because the studio doesn't want to embarrass themselves, but I'm not sure about what Disney's psychology on this one is going to be right now.

I think 'Bob' won't be CEO for much longer.
