America loves a winner!

Though not delving into the issue all that deeply, I've none the less noticed an issue with Dr Who, as well as some other BBC shows. The matter of interracial relationships.

Now, before anyone gets all bent out of shape and starts jumping into stereo typical camps, hear me out.

Rose and Mickey. Donna and husband 1 and then husband 2. Sally Sparrow and Billy Shipton. Clara and Danny Pink. Over and over, in these cases as well as others , there's a pattern of interracial coupling going on , which seems to follow some sort of template.

White women + black man.

Is this done on purpose, and if so , why ?

Now, the free folk of the world should be able to date anyone they see fit, imo. But if that's truly what is being promoted here, ( assuming there is any conscious attempt to do so ) , why not mix it up some more ? Asian woman and white man ? Indian woman and Inuit male ?

Aside from Zoe and Wash , and one couple on LOST, it seems rare that this tend is ever bucked.

Does this truly reflect the norm over in England ? And is it so heavily tilted towards just the specifics of this type of woman and that type of man ?

Brief bit I've looked into on this matter generally seems to be either - " It's clearly a conspiracy to promote PC into everyone's world " to " This is a silly issue, stop being a twat and go get a life. "

So, might there be some reasonable discussion in the middle on this ?

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

It's not just a silly issue, it's a non-issue as far as I'm concerned. Remember, Martha ended up with Mickey.

If you want a real controversy, let's discuss inter-species relationships like Jenny and Madame Vastra.

But don't you see ? The issue isn't merely 'mixed relationships', but a reoccurring showcase , if you will, of main characters ( for a series or an episode ) of the same sort. It's almost a standard formula they use, over and over again.

Sure, Rose 'ended up' with the human version of #10, and Martha ended up w/ Mickey ( or was it really Ricky ? ) which made a very smart couple, imo ... but point is, there's very little variation or imagination going on here.

And don't get me started on inter-species relationships ! Let's deal w/ one topic at a time.

This is nothing to me and as for the inter-species thing. Yeah, it is a little weird but then I looked at it from an "inter-racial" point of view and it does make sense.

Knickers far from twisted, Brenda. It's just a casual observation, and you seem to keep missing the point I've made. It's not JUST about interracial relationships. It's the prominent repetition of one particular arrangement , over and over again. If they truly wanted to mix it up, then why don't they ? Which leads to my asking. Is this done on purpose, does it reflect the social interactions in England, etc..

( And the inter-species thing is nothing but sci-fi whimsy, and not really relevant to the issue at all )

The English don't have a strong sense of identity, they are not nationalistic like Australians, India, Greek or Chinese and don't show Patriotism like American people do.

Maybe its best described as Balkanization? and Multi Cultural mixing...an ending of the old, the white-anglosaxon or WASP culture is truly a dying person in England, some of them do exist and I'm not talking about race here I'm talking about a dominant British culture and distinctly 'British person' its all dying out...most of the old Brits are holding onto positions in banking, property, politics but even here they are slowly dying out.
England is becoming or has become very, very multi-cultural I have yet to make full judgement if this is going to be a very good thing or very bad thing but the Scottish and Welsh seem to hold their own. Most in England, black, white, yellow, brown whatever don't really care for promoting 'British' but some others have a strong sense of identity, it seems tribalism or cultural tribalism is to return. British are dying out but others are growing strong. Even the minor cultures of Welsh language has taken a revival but 'Englishness' or the definition of 'British' has been dying out for a while now.
Perhaps England has become a Balkans state with different cultures breaking and mixing and breaking apart again?
London once seen an Empire cross into India and Asia, these days Whitechapel where the Ripper killed is now Bangladesh
The elite of England once saw riches come back from Africa, they had game reserves and vacation homes and these days Newham London and Hackney is now Ghana and Nigerian...you also have those Jamacian areas, stoner clubs, dance hall twerk parties, Afro night clubs
Russians? I forget which part of London is Russian but there is a big Russian kind of region or ghetto there, I think it might be next to their Korea town and richer Koreans have bought up parts of central London.
London was once a Empire which sailed the world saw poor Irish immigrants and IRA bombs during the North of Ireland 'Troubles' thousands ethnic Irish now own parts of the Capital
Turks and Turkish have taken over the north of Greater London, the current blonde haired Mayor is secretly of Turkish ancestry.
The Greeks have large concentrations in the Hyde Park London, Regent's Park, Chelsea
Parts of London are totally Indian, Hindu prayer, food, langauge it looks like a foreign city

but its not just a 'London' thing, across the whole of England they all are split into their own different villages

The 'British' man or British woman is a dying cultural breed, no matter who they are black, white, yellow, brown very few of them want to promote 'British-ness' anymore, the only thing the peoples have in common is they all speak the English language, they use the British Pound as Currency, pay British taxes and can tune into BBC news but apart from these few things there is little in common. Just think of England today as a nation of hundreds of different culture areas, ethnic areas or tibal ghettos, they all seperate, then kids go to the clubs and mix and finally all the people return to their own seperate neighborhoods once again. I don't know but I've a feeling this whole soccer thing or football as they call it only helped English live even more seperate to each other.

I really don't think the BBC are running a campaign for interracial relationships - British TV had a 6 year head start over Kirk and Uhura (see: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-34869452). Meanwhile... Captain Jack gets the hots for anything with a self-replicating molecular base, lizard-women get married to human females and Clara is walking around making comments about Jane Austen being a good kisser... and we've seen two timelords have a transgender regeneration, one changing race at the same time (possibly softening us up for a black and/or female doctor in the future - which they should probably do ASAP before it becomes non-controversial). At least in the world of television, making a big deal out of a mere interracial relationship would be so 1960s.

However, the BBC do worry about diversity, and when the regular lineup is mostly white I'm sure that they take equal opportunities very seriously when casting for supporting roles (e.g. the assistant's boyfriend).
