I agree with that; it was tough staying awake even while fast-forwarding through most of it.

From the MST3K front I'd like to nominate 'Manos: The Hands of Fate.' Even watching it with funny commentary it was still, as my husband described it, "like watching a train wreck at a frame a day."

I was also unbelievably disappointed at Jet Li's 'The One.' I would really love for him to succeed in the US, but it's not gonna happen when he keeps churning out crap like that.

Good call, but I'm not sure if I'd describe "Manos" as Sci-Fi. It had more of a Lifetime, movie-of-the-week vibe to it, don't you agree?

Also, as for "The One," any movie that features the bad guy pick up not one, but TWO, motorcycles at once, and smash a dude with them like they were flyswatters... well, c'mon, that's FUNNY!!

I have to agree with Highlander 2 being way up there on the 'worst' list. I LOVED Highlander, so naturally I went to see #2...it was pain incarnate. I left in a state of confusion and felt like my mind had been curbstomped by a pack of rabbid rioters. I left the theater..wiser. I never did see the 'other' ones and refuse to agknowledge their existence.

As for TV...let me end the debate here and now on the Andromeda thing. IT SUCKS!!! It is like Hercules in space...and yes Sorbo is the worst actor(?) on tv. How that drivel survives when so much goodness(i.e. Firefly) went the way of the dodo I'll never know.

-Dark/Blue

P.S. SG-1 also baffles me...bad...no sir, don't like it.

The worst Sci-fi ever is anything and I do mean ANYTHING that stars Wil Smith. Why do people keep going to his films. Wild, Wild West has to be the most embarrassing anti-intellectual cheese fest since Night of the Comet. Or an even better question why do I keep watching Wil Smith films? Well I'm done never again will I subject myself to such horror. I swear he's trying to be in a film worse than Night of the Comet and one day he will succeed and I'm not going to be there to witness it. I don't care if his next film has all the Firefly actors in it I'm still not paying money for any more of his crap.

I found a review of I Robot that pretty much somes up my view of the film. Warning this link is not for the easily offened. If you hated this film as much as me you might dig this link. I think this link is funny as hell. Issac Asimov is rolling in his grave.

http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=i_robot

I rather liked Event Horrizon I thought it was a rather good horror film. That film scared the crap out of me. Cherry 2000 just saw that last week end it's awfull but it's my kind of awfull. So cheesey as to be sort of fun.

Also any film made by the Sci-fi channel is by definition the worst Sci-fi ever. Why do they keep making that crap? Who watches it why?

Lets see what else Lexx the show when it was a mini-series from Showtime called Tales From a Parallel Universe it was awsome then when it moved to Sci-Fi channel and became Lexx Sci-fi channel just wrecked it. But if you haven't checked out the original version I highly recommend it.

Earth Finial conflict deserves a mention as does Sliders a show that in concept that could have been the greatest show ever but always sucked. I kept tuning in hoping it would get better but it never ever did. Sliders was always trying to teach me some heavy handed politically correct message. Like rascism is bad or something. Like I as a viewer was supposed to after watching an episode say someting like, thanks Sliders writters before I watched your truelly deep show I thought rascism was cool but now I know it's in fact bad. In fact your beating me to death with your politically correct message completly made me not notice just how bad you guys writing really is thanks a million Sliders writers!"

And lets not forget Small Wonder and Sea Quest DSV.

Low Budget and Hated

Some say its fiction others say its a Documentary but I don't know if it is good or bad

The Fourth Kind is a 2009 psychological horror thriller scifi? film featuring a cast of Milla Jovovich, Elias Koteas, Corey Johnson, Will Patton, Charlotte Milchard, Mia Mckenna-Bruce, Yulian Vergov, and Osunsanmi. The title is derived from the expansion of J. Allen Hynek's classification of close encounters with aliens, in which the fourth kind denotes alien abductions.

Going back to this thread I don't know about worst scifi / fantasy because even B-movies can be respect for effort in their low budget products

Dr Who has become one of the worst, it used to be a cult hit and ranked among the best. Reality tv has always been bad from Ghost Hunters to 'Stars on Mars. there have been Marvel and DC Shows dead on arrival Batwoman TV series or 'Inhumans', tv shows that fade and crash because the actors or producer are seen as creepy, Crisis in Six Scenes. Unnecessary movie remakes Firestarter, Minority Report series, The Stepford Wives, Flatliners, Planet of the Apes etc
There are shows that go on too long or are just Over Rated, 'Lost' is probably when I just stopped watching tv, Black Summer, Blindspot, Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones...Walking Dead possibly killed the zombie genre

Star Wars and star Trek have been doing tv and movies way too long, J. J. Abrams is highly over rated as a film maker, almost no new concept or fun ideas, nothing fresh anymore.

I think Breaking Bad was just about the perfect length for a great show that rarely stumbled along the way and had what I consider the Perfect Ending. Though it ranks at the top, it wasn't my all time favorite show, but I consider the ending the best ending in any show I've ever seen. The only other TV show ending I think is close to it was Chuck, and though I have a fondness for that show, I wouldn't put it in my top 10. Endings are important though, and those two did it right.

Maybe you mean that Breaking Bad was too long because of the movie about Jessie and the Better Call Saul series after the fact? I never did finish Better Call Saul, but not because I thought it was bad. It certainly was no Breaking Bad, but I stopped watching pretty much all TV shows when I quit drinking, and this was one of the ones I intend to get back to at some point.

LOST only annoys me because of how much they fumbled at the end there. If you view good TV as a journey rather than a destination, LOST had that in spades. But the ending and really the final season in general just made me think I wasted a lot of time there. It's really unfortunate when you found out they never had a plan and were winging it all along.

The Walking Dead was amazing in the beginning. But they dragged it out way too long and everyone lost interest. It should have been 5 seasons long like Breaking Bad with no spinoffs. You couldn't pay me to finish watching it or sit through a minute of any one of the spinoff series. (They did make all those stupid spin-offs, didn't they? I'd heard about them, but I don't follow it at all anymore).

With so much garbage online for free are we also in the worst scifi era?

Bad
Old shows like The Starlost, Galactica 1980, British had their old Fireball XL5 Thunderbirds TV Series, My Favorite Martian, Gilligans Island, Mr Ed...tv was slapstick when it did not know what to do, they mixed the magic with supernatural and theatrical and science all the time and some Dr Who was just 'BAD' Supertrain, Gemini Man, The Shazam/Isis Hour, Me and the Space Chimp? sitcom

Good?
Old Flash Gordon, a lot of stuff still had art or charm, The Jetsons, Outer Limits, TwilightZone, from Japan you get get a foreign VHS of Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot, from the Canadians The Starlost Counterstrike is a strange one, Star Trek The Animated Series is a respected spin off, Planet of the Apes is still watchable tv, Buck Rogers could it work as a remake? Knight Rider they tried to remake but failed, Blake's 7, Adam West Batman, Wonder Woman and The Incredible Hulk kind of still work as classics, there was arrival of Japan toons Battle of the Planets, the French Japanese Ulysse 31, Star Blazers...maybe some what aimed at adults also like Scooby Doo.

There is an improvement on acting with stuff like Hill St Blues and Twin Peaks, shows become long arcs and less episodic the Dr Who shows get better.
Respected Actors with Awards they Arrive on Tv sets.
You could call this mid 80s to mid late 2000s period, where a show would still sell on VHS or DVD markets.

Bad
modernist the DC worlds of Swamp Thing, Robocop tv, the Prisoner remake, Neo Yokio a Japan American style anime is just bad, Painkiller Jane, Mutant X a soap that could not use the Xmen brand, Total Recall 2070, Jupiter Moon...a lot of cheesy Japan tv and Japanese tv never recovers from this time.
Mercy Point it just doesn't work
Mutant X was bad but almost all tv was bad before HBO and other started improving tv, Alias TV series bad, Lost TV series Jeffrey Lieber and J. J. Abrams goes on forever and is just stupid.
the Star Treks and Stargates always had a level of 'scifi' quality, they were seen as peak scifi tv but get worse over time, the Scifi soap opera dies.

Pass?
Tek-War maybe, Kingdom Hospital, Space Precinct,
Andromeda...its ok-ish got worse and then stuff like Firefly and Farscape and other shows came along
then everyone watched 'Lost' which was dumb.
Tv had changed you moved from big tv channels I Love Lucy, The Lone Ranger, to people collecting VHS and DVD to the death of VHS and DVD into downloads and 'streaming'

90s to 2000s
then it improves, there is a period where cgi and fx on set gets cheaper and people invest more cash production. Sales also arrive into DVD box sets and shows have other markets...you could call this the Game of Throne or Rome HBO era, in the post improved tv era Boardwalk Empire, Rome, Westworld Hulu's Fargo, Pachinko, South Korea tv, Dark Matter 2015 spaceship and Dark Matter 2024 black cube alt dimensions, Star Wars shows, Disney shows, DC WB shows, For All Mankind, overseas tv etc
while quality improves the market also gets saturated
Streaming also slowly kills tv
The Walking Dead TV series for example is not a terrible show it just never died, would not go away and outlived its welcome
the DVD is dead or dying, the VHS sales are long dead...everything is online
a show like Marvels Agents of Shield just keeps going, not that its the greatest show nor is it the worst of all time it is ok but Disney/Marvel wanted their long lasting tv series.
Some like superhero tv some like dark shows like The Tourist others like Resident Alien 2021–present, The Expanse was the last TV Series that tried it but the scifi Spaceship Epic Opera era of tv is over.
Stuff is aimed at kids 'The Owl House' for example, shows come and go.
A cool and funny tv show can come out like 'Final Space an American adult animated space opera comedy drama television series but nobody will watch.
Tv is over because everyone has everything online, Dark Matter 2024 should be praised but shows are basically ignored because everyone has too much to watch.

Bad modern shows there are a lot
DC Bat Woman, Marvel Disney Inhumans, Nightflyers, The Stand 2020, The Twilight Zone 2019, Flash Gordon remake etc
The post DVD worlds
and today people won't even watch stuff even if its good and even if you put them online for free

Did you see the actual numbers and comparisons to other shows that came out this year and previous years on Disney+?

They use this stupid "minutes watched" counter that gives stupid large numbers that sound awesome, so nobody really questions if the show was successful or not when somebody comes out and reports that it was successful by stating a show got "X Billion Minutes Watched".

But if you take the amount of billions of minutes of Acolyte watched and divide it by the amount of minutes in-total among all the episodes of the show, it only comes out to just over 8 million views... worldwide. On a show that cost something in the area of $250 Million to make.

Now I know that those figures aren't exact, but they're in the ballpark. If you divide those, you get $31.25 that Disney spent per person who viewed The Acolyte from beginning to end. That's $0.73 less than 2 months worth of membership dues pre-tax, which Disney would require from 8 million people just to pay for the production budget of this show, not even figuring in any marketing they did.

What nobody is telling you when you see that Acolyte was being cancelled despite being Disney+'s 2nd most popular show of 2025 is that Disney+'s numbers are horrible across the board and the fact that Acolyte was near the top of their 2024 watch list with the pathetic viewcount it got just speaks to how shit Disney+ is.
