Fat Lee??

The whole thing with suicide boming was very provocative I thought.

I'm not liking the Starbuck with child and cylon hubby angle..

Still.. its good to have BSG back again after such a long hiatus.

A couple of thoughts on Starbuck's child. Seemed to be a bit older than a child produced from her ovary taken in "The Farm" would be. Second, don't you think the kid's "accident" could have been a set up?

MISBEHAVEN

I'm enjoying the direction the show is going, particularly the political relevancy. I listened to Ronald Moore's podcast, and he talks about the political angle, but he said that it's more about war in general, not just the Iraq War. Regardless of whether or not you beleive that, I still think they're really ratcheting things up this season. Everything about the show seems to have taken a more "in your face" approach.

I'm really impressed with the direction in which Tigh is being taken. Its not that I agree with his tactics, although I certainly understand them, but rather the fact that it's nice to seem him portrayed more strongly. Moore said that was always the intention. Part of the reason that Adama keeps Tigh around, aside from the fact they're friends, is that when it comes down to it, Tigh is the man you want in the trench with you. He's the guy who's going to get things done. And it's about fraking time I'd say.

As for Starbuck, I'm not as wild about that story line, but the possiblities are endless. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. And Lee....we'll he needs to get his fat ass in the gym because it's distracting. Every time he's on screen I start laughing, and I don't that's the effect they want.

All in all, I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.

I sort of liked Fat Lee. It kind of justifies everything I’ve ever thought about him. *cough*Wussy*cough*

I’ve always thought of Tigh as the kind of guy you want in a fight. He’s always been the military voice in Adama’s ear. His big weakness was his drinking, which made it difficult for him to think straight.

The whole Starbuck thing was sort of filler. Didn’t do much for me.

Probably the one big thing that I didn’t like was the whole dynamic of being in New Caprica. It was painfully obvious where this was going from the beginning. Battlestar Galactica may be gritty and expose the rough side of human nature, but at its essence is the struggle of life and the beauty of the human spirit and hope for a better tomorrow. That’s what made the original good and it is what has made the new version great, but this stuff on New Caprica really isn’t working that angle too well.

Loved seeing "Boomer"/Sharon back in uniform.

Helo as first officer of Galactica? Shiny!

Fat Lee & Admiral Adama telling him to get his fat ass out of his office? Priceless! To me Lee putting on the weight & losing his edge was indicative of the Colonies growing soft when the landed on New Caprica. Admiral Adama and a few others were the only ones who knew they had to remain vigilant, just like the beginning of the series when the Cylons attacked.

Starbuck / Cylon hubbie wannabe / Baby Cylon-Starbuck. A little lame. What is this Cylon's malfunction??? It was filler to me too. I do think the child & her "accident" were all staged by the Cylon to try to gain Starbuck's affection.

Like where they are headed w/ Ty and the Resistance movement. Great stuff. The suicide bombings are an interesting twist, but fits with the situation and definitely makes a person think, no?

What the heck is going on with Ty's wife? I know why she banged the Cylon the first time, to get Ty out of prison, but why did she do it the second time? Is she becoming a calaborator? I think part of it is to protect Ty, but I don't think that is the only motivation.

I think she thinks she's helping the resistance. It's just that she's always thought of her sexuality as the only weapon she has --we've been seeing it on Galactica for a while.

I don't really think she is doing it to help the Resistance. I think it is more to protect Ty. I guess in her own twisted way she cares about Ty, though she seems pretty free with her physical affections.

I agree that she has used her sexuality as a weapon as we have seen in the series before. She obviously also seems to have sort of craving for attention, most likely brought on by feelings of being ignored by Ty who is married to his job.

I think some will be, perhaps even most. We know the chief's wife got away because Jammer cut her loose & told her to run. We know the former president will survive because she is signed for the whole season & we have seen her in ads for future episodes. I don't think Zarek will die either. He was pulling the president back towards the duece & halfs when the toasters walked up the hill towards them. I think they will both escape & go underground with the resistance.

I really hope Starbuck isn't falling for Leoben's mindgames - and it wouldn't surprise me if that fall wasn't an accident. He just can't be trusted for a minute and he's sooo creepy!! I do think she's beginning to loose it - hopefully wanting to protect the child, who I doubt is really her daughter, will motivate her to find a way out. That little girl so adorable though, can she how she'd get sucked in, especially with her own mother issues.

I can understand Tigh's motivations - he's such an old warhorse! And they are at war afterall. And he did tell Duck not to go through with it if Baltar wasn't there - but of course Duck was pretty hell bent on it anyway.

Anyone else not fooled for a moment when the 'mysterious source' was revealed to be Gaeta? Although one shot of the hand leaving the documents in the drawer looked oddly dark, like it was someone with black skin, but it was probably just the light.

And I loved how Adama decided to finally trust Sharon - and how he anwsered her question -'I don't, that's what trust is', was just classic Bill. I love that man!!

Nope, not at all.

There was no one else it could've been, and we've seen that Gaeta is far to good a person to stand by as Baltar's toady.

I really hope nothing horrible happens to Gaeta once they get back to Galactica. I have a feeling some of them won't be quick to forgive his association with Baltar's Vichy-style government,. But I think his role is very important, without him feeding them info from the inside, the Resistance wouldn't be half as effective, or Tyrol wouldn't have known that Cally was on that list, or where she was being taken to.

I think Sharon and Helo are gonna lose it when they find out Hera is alive. Can't see them trusting Roslin ever again. But I don't remember Adama ever being in on the plan, so I wonder what he'll think when he finds out that Roslin kept it from him.

They're gonna have to open a creche on Galactica, what with Hera, Kasey and baby Nicholas all coming aboard!!

I am thinking Gaeta will get a mixed receiption onboard Galactica. So far no one knows he is the mysterious informant who has been feeding them info. Remember the conversation between him and the Chief and how Chief tells him to get of his butt and do something? That to me says the general opinion is that he is some sort of sell out for being Baltar's lackey & working with the Cylons. That of course tells us that Gaeta is clandestine enough to keep his involvement in the information he is filtering to the Resistance secret.

I think Sharon & Helo are going to lose it too. I don't recall Adama being in on Roslin's swapping Hera for the dead infant. Does anyone recall if he was? If he was, then Karen will feel betrayed & then we have tension and a strained relationship dynamic to further the story along. If he wasn't aware of the plot, who is to say that Sharon & Helo will believe he wasn't in on it. It is bound to come to light soon that Hera is alive, especially since # 3 has told Sharon her child is alive. Sharon will not stop until she knows for sure one way or another.

I just watched the 2 hour season premier last night from my tivo.

I was really disappointed. I felt that overall, it was a bad analogy to the Iraq war.

I thought the suicide bombing part was a complete misrepresentation of what suicide bombing really is. The real atrocity of suicide bombings is that they are taking place in soft/civilian targets, but on the show, they were targeting military targets. Both the psychology and the evil of suicide bombing was completely missed. The whole 'cylons want to live in peace with the humans' was flawed and inane. If that was true, there was no reason to go to New Caprica at all. The humans had not encountered the cylons in over a year and were living on their own...then the Cylons show up, take them over and say they want to live in peace!?! I also felt the humans as police troops was another missed analogy.

The ending of the premier showed the cylons closer to the Nazi's than the American's, and in that case, they can try to claim that it represents other wars, but I felt it was overall just a misguided attempt to criticize America's involvement in the war on terror.

That said, I have been a fan of the show since the miniseries, and I will give it a whilte to try to get back on track.

I'm thinking that if Gaeta has been smart and canny enough to keep his one-man spy network running, he probably has "credentials" that he can produce when the time for subterfuge ends. Something that'll confirm he's been the mole, and not just a collaborator trying to claim credit.

Ron Moore has taken a lot of flack frpm some of the fans over this, but he maintains that the new season is not merely a direct allegory for what's going on in Iraq at the moment, but more of a universal story of what people are capable of in war, which is as old as humanity itself.

But thats a good point about the suicide bombers targeting civilian areas in real life, very true, happens in Palestine, Iraq, and even in London last year.

Well I've seen the next episode and it's not quite as on the nose with the Iraq parralels, so that should please you. And once they get back to Galactica there'll be less obvious allegories again. I think the show works best when it's more removed from immediate real world events, although I thought they handled it very well, especially the scene between Baltar and Roslin. Who would have thought Balter could reasonably shame Roslin now after his betrayal has been made public to the humans.

On another note - I loved how Baltar is adament that no-one's been tortured. He always did a have a knack for deceiving himself into believing that horrible things aren't really happening under his nose and even if they were he has nothing to do with it anyway. The first time we meet him in the miniseries, after Six explains who she really is and what's about to go down, all he can say is he had nothing to do with it!! Priceless!

Really enjoy this show and the new season. The political stuff, eh. And make no mistake - it's definitely about Iraq, any attempts by R. Moore to deflect or say it's about other occupations is pretty funny and thin imho.
It's really a parlor trick though - we're not cylons and Galactica's crew is definitely not insugents in the present day context, not by any any stretch. So it's just to stir up controversy and gain viewers imho.

Fat Lee! Ha! I laughed so hard, "the weight of command," especially the part where he's trying to enlist his wife's support against the old man while eating some snack treats.

"CyBuck" lol - so what would happen if little 'Bucky were to die? Would she be downloaded and reborn?

Also - didn't they say there were 9 (?) skinjobs? And we've only seen 6 total? I have a guess as to one of the others if that's true:

Wild guess type possible spoiler:

Have to agree with everyone and say I hate how they are trying to put it like current events.

Frak teh suicide bombings, the Col shouldn't of suggested them. They seemed to be doing pretty good without them.

And i'm loving the Starbuck Clone-thingie. And Starbuck with long hair. I heard a rumor she had cut it all off again. Guess that must be later in teh season?

Oh and wtf is up with Apollo and his fat @$$?

Overall tho, i can't wait until Saturday (when i can download the newest ep, since the UK aint airing them).

By the way she got attached to the child so quickly leads me to believe that she is playing along.

But, it might be genuine, who knows.

We know she'll kill that Cylon dude whenever she gets the chance, but we've seen Starbuck's softside and might not kill the child, even might bring it with her when the rescue comes.

That is exactly how I saw it, not as an allegory for the current conflict in Iraq, but as the depths humans will go in war. My wife on the other hand saw it as a reflection of the current conflict.

Thanks, I'm not denying thobvoius parrallels withwhat's happening in Iraq today, and BTW what's wrong with using real events in art, thats nothing new anyway? Certain phrases like insurgents, infidels etc were maybe a little too on the nose, butthey apply.

But I do think the show is aiming to be more universal than that, and anyone who knows anything about human history knows that what goes on today in wars around the world has been going on since humans have been on the earth. War and occupation is n ugly business and fighting back, whwether justified or not, is just as ugly, often worse because the outnumbered have to be prepared to go further if they want to survive.

If the show's political undertones bother you, just watch it as merely a work of fiction that has no bearing on the world today! !:)

Its still worth watching just as an entertaining story.
